1983 Château Cheval BlancSt. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend more |
4/8/2023 - dnicewicz wrote: 93 pointsAristocratic from the cork pull. Cigar, leather and old saloon dominated the perfume. Plate reflected the perfume and included cassis, sous bois with medium body. A fine and honored guest at our table tonight. If I had one wish - more fruit and this would’ve been stunning. Drink up |

1986 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de LalandePauillac Red Bordeaux Blend more |
3/26/2023 - dnicewicz Likes this wine: 94 pointsGreat stuff - exactly what you’d expect from Pichon Lalande - plenty of soft sous bois notes, tobacco, cassis and great medium body finish. I prefer this over the 1996 at current status (the 96 is a bit too pyrazine-heavy for me). Really nothing wrong here - even had some magical element at the beginning that faded a bit over time. These bottles are why we drink wine. |

1989 Château Latour Grand VinPauillac Red Bordeaux Blend more |
2/15/2023 - dnicewicz wrote: 97 pointsIncredible Latour from a well-stored bottle. Perfume of cassis and leather gives way to an incredibly unctuous palate of currants, cassis, blue fruits, graphite and crushed gravel. Excellent length. Only thing holding back this score from perfect was a little less expression on the nose and maybe could have had a touch longer finish, but I’m splitting hairs. This was an incredibly youthful and amazing wine. |

2007 Terralsole Brunello di Montalcino RiservaSangiovese more |
1/26/2023 - dnicewicz Likes this wine: 93 pointsExcellent value for brunello - tasting notes are similar to what others have reported - concentrated black cherry, cedar, licorice, leather and tobacco. Really in a great spot - wished I had more! |

1996 Moët & Chandon Champagne Cuvée Dom PérignonChampagne Blend more |
11/16/2022 - dnicewicz wrote: 95 pointsStill remarkably fresh, this Dom feels like it could survive another few decades! Toasted brioche, caramel and toffee notes on the perfume are reflected beautifully in the palate with a citrusy zing and minerality with excellent structure. Racy champagne |

1964 Château CanonSt. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend more |
10/2/2022 - dnicewicz wrote: 93 pointsWhat an evolution this wine had. Perfectly stored - upon opening, some minty medicinal notes that blew off after 30 min, then this wine came into its own - plum, tobacco, leather, smoke with fully integrated tannins - hard to believe it but this wine was still very much alive and well. |

1995 Castelgiocondo (Marchesi de' Frescobaldi) Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Ripe al ConventoSangiovese more |
6/24/2022 - dnicewicz Likes this wine: 94 pointsExcellent brunello - licorice, cedar, black cherries and a touch of sweetness. Tannins almost fully integrated but honestly for me give just a touch of tension to make this even more interesting. Lovely character - wish I had more. |

2007 Poderi Aldo Conterno Barolo CicalaNebbiolo more |
4/12/2022 - dnicewicz wrote: 95 pointsStellar wine. Linear focus with black cherries borderlining on cherry cola with a hint of cigar box with a racy and even at times sexy structure. I’ll be having more of these… 2 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

2005 Château Pontet-CanetPauillac Red Bordeaux Blend more |
4/8/2022 - dnicewicz wrote: 93 pointsLike a little foal trying to stand up, this wine has its kicks and spurts of potential greatness. Spicy almost juicy tannins give way to deep blue fruits and then a bitter sharpness that destroys the prior glory. The nose is reticent and has a sharp alcoholic terpine note. Will this foal ever learn to walk? I sure hope so because I have 11 more… |

1986 Château Haut-BrionPessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend more |
3/6/2022 - dnicewicz wrote: 96 pointsWhat a masculine wine - perfume is more like a strong cologne - graphite, sandalwood, cedar and blue fruits gives way to an opulent palate - full-bodied, blue fruits, cedar and a super long finish. Midway through the wine started to shut down a bit which makes me think this is still on the verge of it’s prime drinking window but not fully yet. I think this wine is going to be massive in 2-5 years time. |

1978 Château Léoville Las CasesSt. Julien Red Bordeaux Blend more |
3/5/2022 - dnicewicz wrote: 95 pointsBirth year vintage for my birthday. The perfume on this was a 10 - loads of cassis, anise, dusty library and leather. Palate was surprisingly alive and fresh with more cassis, Chinese five spice, leather and dusty tannins. Medium bodied but gorgeous. A truly stunning LLC |

1996 Krug Champagne Vintage BrutChampagne Blend more |
11/15/2021 - dnicewicz wrote: 97 pointsThis is a fond farewell to a friend I made tonight - 1996 Krug. What a classy dinner partner - perfume of toasted brioche and sea spray. The palate was unctuous and lavish with oxidative notes like toast, brioche and orange peel but somehow perfectly balanced with the tension of minerality and acidity. The tastes still linger in my memory. Took about 20 mins to unfurl but really a treat. This is a bubbly worthy of a wedding anniversary, which this was. |

1995 Château L'EvangilePomerol Red Bordeaux Blend more |
10/23/2021 - dnicewicz Likes this wine: 94 pointsPerfume of plums, sous bois, truffle and graphite gave way to a palate that was surprisingly still youthful - plums, graphite, truffle, game and sous bois with perfectly resolved tannins. I agree with other tasting notes that this wasn’t a super powerful L’Evangile, but I am totally fine with that as it was just an excellent mellow experience. |

1982 Château BeychevelleSt. Julien Red Bordeaux Blend more |
8/21/2021 - dnicewicz Likes this wine: 96 pointsIs there anything better than a 1982 Bordeaux in perfect harmony? I haven’t found it yet. This Beychevelle was a perfect St Julien expression. Nose was a bit reticent which is that only thing that held this back from a higher score but had elements of sous bois, tobacco and dark fruits. The palate was rich and deep - cassis, tobacco, leather, touch of pepper - tannins completely melted. Finish was long and satisfying. Really a treat to drink these older vintages |

2001 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape BlancWhite Rhone Blend more |
8/1/2021 - dnicewicz wrote: 93 pointsThis was a fun ride. Agree with some comments that it takes ~30 mins to evolve but boy it does. Started out a bit saline and flat, then grew in structure and fattiness. Ripe apricots, beeswax, and a nuttiness that harmonizes nicely with the scant acidity. This is definitely not a wine for everyone, but I personally love northern Rhone whites and thought this was a real treat. |

2009 Château Le Bon PasteurPomerol Red Bordeaux Blend more |
7/30/2021 - dnicewicz Likes this wine: 93 pointsSuch a nice value and drinking great now. Nose is perhaps a bit reticent, but plums and violets come through. The palate is so lovely and ripe - plums, some blue fruits and some grainy tannins to make things spring to life. It’s everything you want in a young Bordeaux - I’m usually not a baby killer, but with this Pomerol, infantacide is acceptable… |

2003 Château Cos d'EstournelSt. Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend more |
5/15/2021 - dnicewicz wrote: 94 pointsExcellent power and layers of silky tannins - black currants, plum and deep inky flavors dominate the palate but the real draw for this beauty is the velvety tannins. Still a bit primary but drinking well now. |

2012 Pierre Gimonnet & Fils Champagne Special Club Grands Terroirs de Chardonnaymore |
3/7/2021 - dnicewicz Likes this wine: 95 pointsAgree with the tasting notes here - lemony, super fresh, slight chalky finish and creamy mousse that is just so much fun. Like a spring breeze. Need more of this stuff |

1986 Château Lynch-BagesPauillac Red Bordeaux Blend more |
2/20/2021 - dnicewicz Likes this wine: 95 pointsInitial notes of pyrazines blew off after about 1 hour to reveal plush and fully integrated tannins, dark fruits and a bit of sweetness. This is just lovely and tastes so young. |

1/17/2021 - dnicewicz wrote: 95 pointsWhat a lovely Pauillac - nose was an intoxicating blend of cigar box, dark fruits and some saddle leather. Palate really opened up after 1.5 h to reward with plush and velvety tannins. Just in a lovely spot right now and may even get better with time. |

2005 Château LascombesMargaux Red Bordeaux Blend more |
1/17/2021 - dnicewicz Likes this wine: 93 pointsIf blindfolded, I would’ve guessed this was a Margaux because of the violets and graphite on the nose. The palate opened up nicely after a 1 h decent to reveal cassis, dark fruits and a hint of cigar box and spice. Tannins not fully integrated yet and I suspect these rough edges will be sanded down in 3-5 y. Overall though a really enjoyable wine. |

2000 Château Pape ClémentPessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend more |
12/5/2020 - dnicewicz wrote: 94 pointsWhat a huge/masculine wine. I think the reviewer before me captured the notes perfectly on this - nose is super complex and interesting - cassis, pyrazine notes, cedar, tobacco. Palate is big for a 20 y/o - dark cherries, cassis, bell pepper, leather some oak and tobacco with a long finish. I agree that this wine while huge, is surprisingly well balanced. The oak blew off after the first 2h and toned things down a little. What a ride on this interesting wine. |

1989 Château Léoville Las CasesSt. Julien Red Bordeaux Blend more |
11/22/2020 - dnicewicz Likes this wine: 98 pointsWhat an outstanding bottle. Dusty books, cassis and leather bouquet right from the start. Palate was lush and complex with cassis, leather and cloves with a long finish. Just a classic and beautiful older style Bordeaux. I don’t think you have to worry about this one fading anytime soon. 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

2015 Au Pied du Mont Chauve Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les ChenevottesChardonnay more |
10/24/2020 - dnicewicz Likes this wine: 95 pointsA little lunch charcuterie and white burg. This one is just fabulous. Bouquet of stone fruits - apricot, peach - palate has excellent acidity that balances out the fattiness that I love about white burgs. Finish is very long. This one is a winner |
