Very upfront, very oaky, wood paint, the fruit lies in the back, cinnamon.
Palate showing big juicy red fruit, a few dry tannins, clove, cinnamon, alcohol warmth (14.50%), full body, long finish
Red - Fortified
Healthy, but at the end of its run. Primary fruit flavors to start followed by a delightful walnut and woody aroma. A bit unbalanced on the finish (too hot), but faint tannins made this go well with a smoked blue cheese. Don’t keep any longer, consume now.

Væntanlega umhellt í ca. 1 klst.
Frekar ljós litur.
Nef: Í byrjun skítafýla, Undirliggjandi sæta, ilmvatn og karamella. Þarna var líka brennisteinn. Eftir fyrstu áhrif þá kom fram blóma og ilmvatnslykt. Vanilla, sæt ber og píputóbak. Tilgerðarleg lykt sagði einhver. Man ekki hver.
Svo var smakkað á víninu. Þá komu fram brenndir tónar, nammitónar (e-s konar sæta), Reykur, tóbak og vanilla í eftirbragði.

Nice mature Champagne flavors, autolytic, saline, umami, a touch of smoke. Nice stuff indeed. Weird useless bottle.

This is quite different than the previous vintage.

Pours purplish garnet. Decanted for an hour. On open big expressive nose. Florals and brambles and a touch of earth. Tiny Brett note on open.

In the mouth, fresh with raspberries and blackberries and a touch of sour cherry. Some minerality - iron. Some earth. There is a lot of bright acidity and some velvet tannins. Medium body.

Finish has some assertive bitterness on top of minerality.

This seems to be a much more persistent and likely complex Guillot than the 2020.I think this is also going to age much better. That said it also needs some more age for things to come into balance.

Decanted for 1-2h. Lovely nose of leather and oak, on the palate juicy extracted black fruit, vanilla, leather, black coffee, dark chocolate, chewy tannins and minerals with an acid finish. Almost a new world feeling with fruit extraction, but the dry palate expression marks this as Bdx. Medium bodied+ Good complexity. Paired with pork bbq ribs and beef brisket.

Tense, purity of fruit, red fruit core, overripe with some floral notes too, elegant, whole bunch notes
The palate is very smooth, juicy, nice tannins, tension, beautiful and youthful, the wine shows some herbal freshness, med body and long finish

100% Chardonnay, zero dosage. Lemon-yellow, fine bead; aromatic, pear, lemon, slight lactic acid; palate is medium bodied, elegant medium-plus acidity, not quite as sharp as expected for zero dosage (which is good...), lemons, quite pure but not as much depth as perhaps expected; finish is medium length. A well balanced and interesting champagne, showing purity of flavors and elegance but not the depth I'm used to seeing in Marguet single vineyard champagnes. Enjoyable, but I would not buy again for the price. 90-91

Decanted 2.5hrs before serving & really started giving closer to 4hrs. Bright sour cherry, strawberry, citrus peel, hot asphalt, flower petals. Mouth filling with elevated acid & tannins providing great structure. Food friendly, paired well with a heavier tomato based dish, last half glass was quite grippy & challenging without it.

Standup tasting. All red fruits coming across here, with Vosne styled fruit profile but more coarse styled structure that thrilled me less. Give a year or three to harmonize, then enjoy youngish, 2027-2036.

Standup tasting. Already showing well now. Faintly meaty with robust (enough) black fruit, all well balanced. Good enough weight for medium-term pleasure. From the Vosne side of NSG, below Bousselots.

PNP. Cork perfect. Two years in the cellar has been kind here. Color remains straw and youthful. Nose showing mostly lime and lemon rind. Swishing shows creamy acidity w no rasp now. Sipping shows great flavor but a little thinness that i associate w tricken wines. There is a confected fruit quality here that i enjoy very much. Finish is med length and juicy. I opened one of these a few nights ago and thought it might be starting to show age but this bottle is perfect. Same case… Same cellar conditions … Opened three days apart… Go figure.

I was traveling for Mothers day, so this came out of the refrigerator and poured into glasses on the counter to warm up and air for at least 45 minutes before we took a sip/smell, and we then finished the bottle as needed. All I can say is that the 2004 was much more complex. This was perfectly nice and a standup Napa cab, it wasn't particularly compelling in any way. I opened this to see if I wanted to buy any of what WTSO still has, which I believe is 2013 and younger. Well, I'm not, at least not at $40 or $50+. This was a steak-friendly wine that was well-received by the the non-wine focused family group.

The 2016 Papera by Carlisle should go down in the annals of Zinfandel history as a real wonder. This is not Bordeaux, it is Russian River Valley Zinfandel that is well within its drinking window. Blueberry, tobacco, raspberry, some spice and a crumbling rock aspect. Flower shop as well. Juicy, delicious and not overblown at all. There’s a wonderful beam of freshness and a full body, with no real tannins, which is common for the Piner-Olivet Zinfandels. Carlisle’s Papera does not have all the mixed blacks or any white grapes like Carlisle, Saitone, Mancini and Montafi, as it is 96% Zinfandel and 4% Carignane in 2016. I have enjoyed Carlisle’s Papera since the ‘05 vintage when it was still called Carlo’s Ranch, and this is the best from there. Drink now - 2029.
