La Paulée de San Francisco - Grand Tasting

The Fairmont - San Francisco CA

Tasted March 5, 2016 by Burgundy Al with 880 views

Introduction

Another great Grand Tasting. I got through almost 90% of the wine before losing steam. The notes are in the order of the book provided, not the order tasted. I tasted through all the reds first, selectively going around the room. I then did the same for whites, which is why I probably missed 20-25% of those.

Flight 1 - Domaine William Fèvre (4 notes)

White
2013 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis 1er Cru Vaulorent France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Lots of orchard fruit with floral hints. Moderate weight and a good sense of Chablis character. Best for medium-term consumption, through 2020

White
2013 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis 1er Cru Montmains France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Much like when tasted at Bouchard last year, this shows lemon and apple, good energy. Comes together in a lighter-styled, moderately weighted package, also best for medium-term drinking.
White
2013 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Bougros Côte Bouguerots France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Also much like when tasted last year at Bouchard. Good cross-section of orchard and citrus fruit. All fresh and powerful with lots of mineral and energy support. Impressive density and length. 93-94 point potential here.

White
2013 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Good array of orchard fruit aromas and flavors. Not quite as powerful or dense as the Bougros Cote de Bouguerots, but more elegant.

Flight 2 - Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon (4 notes)

White
2014 Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon Mâcon-Milly-Lamartine France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Mâcon-Milly-Lamartine
Tasting, brief note. Floral with lemon aromas. Apple flavors to start, lemon coming through on finish. Precise and very fun. Very good for its level/ price.

White
2014 Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon Mâcon-Chardonnay Clos de la Crochette France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Mâcon-Chardonnay
Tasting, brief note. More apple and rounded vs Milly-Lamartine just tasted, equally good and enjoyable for near-term.
White
2014 Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon Saint Véran France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Saint Véran
Tasting, brief note. The most intense fruit, cross-section of orchard fruit on nose and palate. My favorite of the 4 shown today. Very good value.
White
2014 Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon Viré-Clessé France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Viré-Clessé
Tasting, brief note. The most lush and dense of the lineup, showing ripe apple throughout with moderate length.

White
2013 Hubert Lamy Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Derrière Chez Edouard Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru

White
2013 Hubert Lamy Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Frionnes Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru
88 points
Tasting, brief note. Similar to Derrière Chez Edouard, but a slight notch down in terms of density and balance. Orchard fruit is slightly fatter and more fun for now.
White
2013 Hubert Lamy Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Clos de la Chateniere Blanc Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Tense and vibrant but with good volume of fruit, showing lemon and yellow apple. Cellar for at least 3 more years.
White
2013 Hubert Lamy Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru
90 points
Tasting, brief note. The most ripe of the lineup, this is fun and easy to enjoy, even if not as bright and classic (to me) as Derrière Chez Edouard. Very good already now, but also cellarworthy.

Flight 4 - Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils (4 notes)

White
2013 Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils Chassagne-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet
90 points
Tasting, brief note. Subtly floral with ripe orchard fruit and peach hints. Great concentration for its level. Good textures and energy as well.
White
2013 Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chenevottes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
90 points
Tasting, brief note. Fatter and rounder vs the Chassagne Villages, so actually more accessible and fun today. Seems slightly less precise, but I like the concentration here as well.
White
2013 Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Maltroie France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
91 points
Tasting, brief note. Lots of apple. Slightly leaner vs Chenevottes but longer, better textured and more my preferred style of wine. Very good now, better in a few more years.

94 points
Tasting, brief note. Spring flowers with lots of ripe apple and pear. Excellent concentration combine with equivalent textures. I particularly like the minerality here.

Flight 5 - Paul Pillot (Chassagne-Montrachet) (4 notes)

White
2013 Paul Pillot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos St. Jean France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Floral start with good spice, even with some pronounced new oak that still needs some time. Very good apple aromas. Similar flavors, just slightly less exciting. Broad mouth feel and nice textures.
White
2013 Paul Pillot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Romanée France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
92 points
Tasting, brief note. Great floral start. Ripe apple and pear. Good textures. Very similar to the Clos St Jean, but with slightly better concentration.
White
2013 Paul Pillot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Caillerets France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
91 points
Tasting, brief note. Apple and lemon with an overall tense and energetic character. Perhaps less fun today than Clos St Jean just tasted, but more power and potential.
White
2013 Paul Pillot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Grandes Ruchottes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
92 points
Tasting, brief note. Lean and textural interesting, like the Caillerets but with more density. My favorite of today's 4 wines.

Flight 6 - Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey (4 notes)

White
2013 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Saint-Aubin 1er Cru La Chatenière Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Perfumed start followed by plenty of ripe apple. Very good overall balance already, but with upside in another few years. 89-90 point potential.
White
2013 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Chassagne-Montrachet Les Ancegnières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet
90 points
Tasting, brief note. Apple and pear with nice spice and mint aromas. Good concentration with some baby fat and moderate textures. Cellar a few more years, 2018-2023 or so.

White
2013 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Caillerets France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. I found this the most challenging of the 4 to assess. Fruit seemed ripe but not fully accessible. Structure and textures seemed to dominate. I wasn't sure if I really liked this wine, but then lots of flavors popped out on finish, so I think there's is a lot more here than meets the eye/mouth/nose. Give this 5+ years.
White
2013 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Also needing more cellar time. Rich fruit and firm structure that weren't in perfect harmony yet. Slightly backward. All the desired raw materials are here, but didn't yet seem quite integrated.

Flight 7 - Nicolas Rossignol (Volnay) (4 notes)

Red
2013 Nicolas Rossignol Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Angles France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Pure red fruit with floral charm. Slightly sweet on palate, slightly soft and simple, but beautifully enjoyable even now. 2017-2028
Red
2013 Nicolas Rossignol Volnay 1er Cru Les Chevrets France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Denser and riper vs Angles. Slightly less prototypically Volnay for me. Good.
Red
2013 Nicolas Rossignol Volnay 1er Cru Caillerets France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Now we're talkin'. All red fruit with great spice. Backward today, but everything you want is here. Very minerally textured. Cellar at least 10 years, but 92-94 point potential for me.

Red
2013 Nicolas Rossignol Volnay 1er Cru Santenots France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. A real contrast vs Caillerets just tasted. Biggest fruit of the lineup with very good concentration, less minerality and textural charm. Still needs more time, but prob 5 years in the cellar to really show well.

Flight 8 - Domaine Roulot (4 notes)

White
2013 Domaine Roulot Bourgogne Blanc France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc
89 points
Tasting, brief note. Apple and slightly tropical with nuanced spice and good concentration. Stupidly exceptional for Bourgogne.
White
2013 Domaine Roulot Meursault Les Meix Chavaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
91 points
Tasting, brief note. Slightly sweet orchard fruit to start, but firms up quickly and makes you pay attention. Excellent Villages. Cellar at least 2 more years.
White
2013 Domaine Roulot Meursault Les Tessons Clos de Mon Plaisir France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
92 points
Tasting, brief note. I liked the Meix Chavaux, but this is a clear step up. Richer and riper fruit with some wonderful toasted walnut. Finished with lots of lemon peel and structure. Cellar at least 3-4 years.
White
2013 Domaine Roulot Meursault 1er Cru Clos des Bouchères France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
94 points
Tasting, brief note. Excellent. Mostly apple and pear, but tropical hints, without over-ripeness. Textures really emerge middle to finish, with lots of lemon peel at the end. Drink2020-

Flight 9 - Domaine François Mikulski (Meursault) (4 notes)

White
2013 Domaine François Mikulski Meursault France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
90 points
Tasting, brief note. Floral with good fruit intensity for Villages. Very good at its level, even if this wine is sadly no longer the bargain it used to be.
White
2013 Domaine François Mikulski Meursault 1er Cru Les Poruzots France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
90 points
Tasting, brief note. Fatter vs the Villages with more power. But less texturally interesting and precise, so I actually liked them equally.
White
2013 Domaine François Mikulski Meursault 1er Cru Gouttes d'Or France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
91 points
Tasting, brief note. Almost as dense and concentrated as Pouzots, but with far more pep and energy. My type of wine.
White
2013 Domaine François Mikulski Meursault 1er Cru Charmes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. The clear star of this flight. Wonderful spice along with good fruit. Shows it density from the start, nuance and textures emerge middle to finish. This is really backward but with so much going on. I'd give this at least 5 years in the cellar, but think it has 92-94 point potential.

Flight 10 - Domaine des Comtes Lafon (4 notes)

White
2013 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
87 points
Tasting, brief note. Starts off lush and easy with lots of ripe fruit. What more can you want? But there was a slightly bitter note on finish I didn't enjoy as much.
White
2013 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault Clos de la Barre France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
89 points
Tasting, brief note. Also fat fruit to start with good density, moderate length. Good overall. Needs time.
White
2013 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault 1er Cru Charmes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
93 points
Tasting, brief note. Fat and lush fruit with charmingly sweet spice hints. In an opulent style that seems low acid to start, but shows far more cellar-necessary energy on its long finish. Very enticing for both now and the cellar.
Red
2013 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Volnay 1er Cru Santenots-Du-Milieu France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
90 points
Tasting, brief note. All red fruit comes across as quite ripe with a hint of new oak. Pretty start, then firms up on the finish. The best vintages of this wine have a forward sexiness I didn't quite find here today.

Flight 11 - Benjamin Leroux (2 notes)

Sorry I missed his whites.

Red
2013 Benjamin Leroux Volnay 1er Cru Clos de la Cave des Ducs France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
90 points
Tasting, brief note. Very pretty red and black berry aromas and flavors. Nicely balanced, slightly floral, moderate weight. Will drink nicely young, but give it a year or three.
Red
2013 Benjamin Leroux Clos St. Denis France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos St. Denis Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Lots of red berry and cherry that starts out with delicate fruit and great spice, then expands through to its long finish. Very long-term cellarworthy, 93-94 point potential, but give it a decade+.

Flight 12 - Louis Jadot (4 notes)

White
2013 Louis Jadot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Referts France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Rich stone fruit, nicely floral. Moderate weight and structure, very accessible. Best to drink young while very fresh.
White
2013 Louis Jadot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Lush stone fruit to start with subtle spice. Powerful, expanding finish with excellent minerality and acidity. Very worth seeking.

Jadot produces two domaine cuvees from this vineyard. This is the "Domaine des Heritiers Louis Jadot" from the en la Richard climat within Folatières, not the "Domaine Louis Jadot" from Folatières proper.
Red
2013 Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Ursules Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Fresh red berries with a hint of anise and mint. Elegant and nicely textured, this should be good young, 2018 forward, up to 90 point potnetial.
Red
2013 Louis Jadot Corton-Pougets Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
90 points
Tasting, brief note. Red and black cherry with firm structure and dense concentration. Very Corton in it backward, burly character, give this a decade or (much) more in the cellar.

Flight 13 - Domaine de Montille (4 notes)

White
2013 Château de Puligny-Montrachet Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
90 points
Tasting, brief note. Ripe apple and baked apple that starts out lush, finishes with nicer precision and power. Very tasty now, but with good cellaring potential.
White
2013 Domaine de Montille Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Lots of apple throughout with good density. Well structured, both finesse and concentration really come through on the finish. 91-92 point potential, but hold for at least 5 years or much longer.
Red
2013 Domaine de Montille Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Aux Thorey France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Subtly perfumed with fresh red berries throughout and some meat notes on finish. Good.
Red
2013 Domaine de Montille Corton-Clos du Roi France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. This has a charming whole cluster note more pronounced today vs when tasted at Montille last summer. Comes across as rich and intense, even fun to start. But there is a firmness on the backend that gives it that classic power I also like a lot. very good 92-93 point potential.

Flight 14 - Domaine Chandon de Briailles (4 notes)

White
2013 Domaine Chandon de Briailles Corton Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Rich and forward stone fruit with tropical and floral notes. Moderate length. Very accessible and forward, this is a good wine for rich seafood over the next 5+ years.

Red
2013 Domaine Chandon de Briailles Corton-Bressandes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Pure cherry dominates the nose with charming fruit and background spice plus earth hints. Elegant flavors show lots of restraint with sneaky structure giving lift. Good now because of its overall balance, but with the bones to age gracefully over a couple of decades.

Red
2013 Domaine Chandon de Briailles Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Les Vergelesses France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Forward red cherry on nose and palate, supported with some nice savory spice flavors. Forward and close to open already. Cellar for a few years, then drink medium-term.
Red
2013 Domaine Chandon de Briailles Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Ile des Vergelesses France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. same red fruit as les Vergelesses, just more restrained flavors, more firm structure. Less fun today, more potential over time.

Flight 15 - Camille Giroud (3 notes)

Red
2013 Camille Giroud Volnay 1er Cru Santenots France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Bright berries throughout with spice and earth hints. Didn't quite show the floral/spice character I typically associate with Volnay. Cellar a few more years.
Red
2013 Camille Giroud Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Boudots France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. First vintage for this wine for Giroud. Lots of red fruit start-to-finish with the savory spice that makes Boudots always seem like Vosne to me. Very charming.
Red
2013 Camille Giroud Clos Vougeot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Red and black berries are very fresh and bright. Subtle spice, great textures make this very tasty and charming already today, but with elegant structure that will keep this exciting for decades. Very well done.

Flight 16 (4 notes)

White
2013 Joseph Drouhin / Drouhin-Vaudon Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Starts a little riper than I prefer from Chablis, but very good density throughout and good minerality coming through on good finish. I expect this will revert to form with a few years in the cellar.
White
2013 Joseph Drouhin Bâtard-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Classically young Bâtard to me with alluring ripe and fat fruit, some baking spice and soft structure to start that firms up near the end. Give this a few years for everything to integrate, and I think this has 93-94 point potential.
Red
2013 Joseph Drouhin Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
91 points
Tasting, brief note. Black and red berries with some licorice and fresh herbs. Very elegant, balanced textures. From 5 different vineyards, which combine for a perfect expression of Chambolle.
Red
2013 Joseph Drouhin Clos Vougeot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Red cherry throughout with modest spice and moderate intensity. Accessible now and very well balanced. Very good 91-92 point potential.

Red
2013 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Vosne-Romanée France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée
Tasting, brief note. Spice driven start with fresh and dried red fruit. Starts forward and spicy, finishes more firm and austere. Very good for its level and price. Cellar a few years.
Red
2013 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Murgers France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
91 points
Tasting, brief note. Nicely floral start with lots of red cherry. finessed and elegant with a long finish. Another northern NSG that comes across as very Vosne styled. Certainly 90+ point potential.
Red
2013 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. A small step up from the NSG Murgers with plenty of spice-driven similarities. More black vs red fruit with good concentration, but more emphasis on elegance than power. Hold to 2020-.

Red
2013 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Romanée St. Vivant France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Romanée St. Vivant Grand Cru
95 points
Tasting, brief note. A little more firm vs when tasted at the domaine in June 2015, but otherwise almost identical. Excellent.
Red
2013 Charles Van Canneyt Charmes-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Black and red cherry with some meaty notes. Moderate weight. This didn't show the same pronounced black pepper note I found in a bottle opened a few months ago. Overall certainly good for medium-term drinking.

Flight 18 (4 notes)

Red
2013 Domaine Jean Grivot Vosne-Romanée France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée
Tasting, brief note. An odd aromatic start I didn't particularly enjoy, which is odd because i really enjoyed the rest of the Grivot lineup today.

Red
2013 Domaine Jean Grivot Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Red fruit nose and palate, nicely textured. spice emerges on expanding finish. Very firm, cellar to 2021 or much longer.
Red
2013 Domaine Jean Grivot Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Aux Boudots France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. More black fruit and firm than Beaux Monts, also slightly more dense and firm. Less spice and textural charm. Probably needs more time in cellar, 2023-
Red
2013 Domaine Jean Grivot Clos Vougeot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Ripe black cherry and plum with serious concentration coming across on nose and palate. A bit of a powerhouse (in the context of Burgundy Grand Cru) this is dense and close to brooding right now. 93-94 point potential, 2025-.

Flight 19 (4 notes)

White
2013 Domaine Pierre Labet Meursault Les Tillets France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
Tasting, brief note. Nicely floral to start with orchard fruit throughout. Shows the minerally textures I associate with that section of the slope. Very nicely done. A wine I can't ever recall tasting before. A domaine holding of Chateau de la Tour's owner. Very nice.
Red
2013 Domaine Pierre Labet Beaune 1er Cru Coucherias France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Black cherry start-to-finish with ok spice. Found it slightly earthy for a wine this young. Ok overall.
Red
2013 Domaine Château De La Tour Clos Vougeot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Black and red cherry with Vosne styled spice. Moderate weight and density, but nicely balanced. Hold at least five years, best 2020-2033.
Red
2013 Domaine Château De La Tour Clos Vougeot Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. An exciting step up from what is called (if not labeled) CV "Classique," this shows lots of black cherry and dried herbs with some sweet spice notes as well. Lots more concentration, even better balance, even if there is a hint of pronounced new oak that will need another couple of years. 93-94 point potential here.

Flight 20 (4 notes)

Red
2013 Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin Vieille Vigne France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
Tasting, brief note. Black berries aromas with hints of roast meat. Very pure fruit character on nose and palate. Very elegant and textual nuanced for its level. 90 points.

Red
2013 Domaine Fourrier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Gruenchers Vieille Vigne France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Red berries throughout and slightly floral. Nicely textured and elegantly styled. Good for its level, but I didn't like this more than the Gevrey Villages VV.
Red
2013 Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Cherbaudes Vieille Vigne France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Black berries and cherry on nose and palate with some roast meat and braised meat spice. Very persistent , very good length for its level. 92-93 point potential.

Red
2013 Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques Vieille Vigne France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Slightly floral with black berry and cherry aromas. Slightly riper flavors than aromas, but this has such impressive balance at this youthful stage that the ripeness just comes across as fun and engaging. But the weight and density makes it clear this will significantly improve from here. Excellent 95+ point potential. One of the day's highlights.

Flight 21 (4 notes)

Red
2013 Domaine Dujac Morey St. Denis France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis
Tasting, brief note. Red berry and cherry with subtle fresh herbs and slightly sweet spice. Very soft soft, slightly more firm finish. Nicely elegant. Good now.
Red
2013 Domaine Dujac Morey St. Denis 1er Cru France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Very similar to the MSD Villages but more greater concentration, depth of flavors and structure. 90 point potential, 2020 forward.
Red
2013 Domaine Dujac Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Aux Combottes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Starts with ripe black cherry aromas showing spice and floral notes, coming across as open and friendly. Similar flavors, but also meaty, slightly austere and a little backward. 91 point potential, needing 5+ more years in the cellar.
Red
2013 Domaine Dujac Clos de la Roche France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Engaging floral start with red and black berries. Dense and very concentrated, I liked this more today vs when tasted at the domaine July 2015. Great depth. Cellar 10+ years, 93-95 point potential.

Flight 22 (4 notes)

Red
2013 Domaine Denis Mortet Fixin Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Fixin
Tasting, brief note. It takes a lot of confidence to bring Fixin to La Paulee...confidence which this wine certainly justifies. Ripe red and black cherry. Bbright and accessible on nose, more firm and backward on palate. Hold a year or two, then a very good everyday drinker with meat.
Red
2013 Domaine Denis Mortet Gevrey-Chambertin Mes Cinq Terroirs France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
90 points
Tasting, brief note. Black cherry with some emerging sauvage. Fun and open right now, perhaps waiting a year for the new oak (~30%) to integrate a little more. Very good 2017-2033.
Red
2013 Domaine Denis Mortet Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Very similar to Cinq Terroirs, but with bigger, denser, slightly sweeter black fruit. Still open, fun and accessible even now, but certainly will be better in a few more years.
Red
2013 Domaine Denis Mortet Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux St. Jacques France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. While the first three in the lineup were already open for business, this Lavaux is more classically Gevrey - darker, more muscular and more earthy. New oak stands out a bit of now, but clearly this has the substance to be fully absorbed. 92-93 point potential, 2023-.

Flight 23 (4 notes)

Red
2013 David Duband Gevrey-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
Tasting, brief note. Equal parts red and black cherry, ripe with some liqueur hints. Forward start, more burly finish. Cellar a year or two. Good.

2013 David Duband Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Red berry aromas and flavors with subtle spice, good textures, just not quite the minerally structure I associate with Chambolle. But still good.
Red
2013 David Duband Morey St. Denis 1er Cru Clos Sorbé France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Red fruit again, ripe while well balanced and proportioned. I like the textures here better vs the Chambolle Sentiers, and so like the wine better overall.

2013 David Duband Charmes-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
92 points
Tasting, brief note. Lighter, elegantly styled, so easy to mistake for something pale and thin, but this is a very interesting wine if given a little attention. I fortunately tasted the Duband wines early in the tasting. Black and red berries, spice and fresh herbs, floral hints all harmoniously combine with elegant structure into a pretty wine with an enticing weightlessness. I like this a lot, even if not classically Gevrey to me, 2023-.

2013 Hospices de Beaune Pommard 1er Cru Les Épenots Cuvée Dom Goblet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Elevage by the Hospices. Great nose of ripe black fruit and wonderful spice. A bruiser of a wine on palate with good flavors, but I don't see this providing much pleasure to drinkers for 10+ years.

2013 Hospices de Beaune Corton-Cuvée Charlotte Dumay France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Elevage by Hospices. Open red fruit, lots of fun and pleasure for a young Corton. Ripe, lush on nose and palate. Tasty, good+ 2018-.
