Out of a pristine Vandermeulen Bottling. Vasa museum, tomato puree, dried porcini, fantastic balance between acidity and richness. Such a creamy texture on the palate with tons of umami.

This is just a dream wine!

Incredibly still fairly fruit forward with red berries, dried fruit and blood orange. Balsamic with a long and balanced finish. Really gains with air!

Chateaux Bottling. Lovage, geranium and oxidative notes in the nose, but in the palate the wine is surprisingly still quite good and pleasurable to drink.

Eschenauer negociant bottle. Some forest floor notes, Italian hard cheese, some iron. Reminded us of the 1959 but with less power and length.

Negociant bottle. Started out slow but then gained a lot with air and kept gaining. Herbs, camomile, sweet tea, incredibly long and multi faceted wine.

Chateau bottling. Irish moss candy, herbs, slightly lactic, apricots, incredibly balanced. While the 47 gained a lot with air this was ready right off the bat and lost slightly with air

Figs, balsamic, dried figs, mushrooms, a tad too much acidity

Corked - but the wine behind shows the richness of this wine...

What a shame

Oxidative, banana, licorice, not good on the nose, but the palate is still fairly good. I don’t think this was an off bottle, I’d rather guess this needs to be drunk up (or should have been 10 years ago)

Stunner and so surprising! This even edged out the 47 that night (at least for me). Coffee, mocha, cassis, chocolate, incredibly dense wine with a long long finish. AMAZING!

Calvet bottling. Forest floor, orange soda, cherry, I was going back and forth if this was a clean bottle or not. The other tasters agreed it was clean, hence I rated it. For me it just fell short of the other wines we had

Second bottle from the same source and the same negociant. This one showed so beautifully. Iron, blood, barnyard notes, but balanced with a richness and length that just developed into a fabulous balance.

Stunning chateau bottle in pristine condition, but it was just over the hill and oxidized. Bummer...

So different from the other Chevals I had, but oh so much fun. An overlooked vintage this delivered.
More California than Bordeaux, with mint and eucalyptus notes, good richness and length.
This has a lot of life ahead!

This was a good but not great bottle of the 1966 Cheval. I really enjoyed it but if you know what this wine can deliver if you hit the right bottle I couldn’t help being a bit disappointed.
Chocolate, mocha, medicinal, Japanese mushrooms, long and medium weight finish

Slender and light, pear notes, long but too light finish

Floral, leather, good but fairly uneventful drinking here...

Polenta, popcorn, oysters, soy sauce, rich creamy and warm. Needs more time in the bottle. I think I wait at least 5 more years before opening my bottles.

Young, fresh, fruity with some awesome smoked-brisket-crust notes. The wine was quite readily approachable and has hit its maturity plateau which by my estimate will last for at least 20 years
