3/16/24, 12:06 PM - I started drinking Et Fille about 12 years ago when an Owen Roe pinot I liked had grapes sourcing from them and have never looked back. The Kalita is fantastic every year. Underrated vineyard.
1/18/24, 4:28 PM - Curious to know why you are replacing Caymus. I've been drinking some young vintages like 2020 and 2021, with air same great wine.
7/29/23, 6:10 PM - one more note on palate, the The fruit is a deep blueberry/ blackberry/tar extract
10/15/22, 6:41 PM - I have not had the Pierre Usseglio yet, I was just looking up comments and thinking about drinking one that I have, which I will! As far as your question on suggestions, I have had a couple of No Girls Grenache that just blew me away. In the top 5 of my 35 years of drinking wine. Probably more smoke than Usseglio according to your description, but work seeking out if you like Grenache. Just give it 5-6 hours of air.
3/4/22, 2:18 PM - That recipe sounds fantastic, just found it online
12/30/21, 3:25 PM - Amazing comment on the cost, $30.00 on release! You forget about inflation over all those years. Still a bargain for new releases, quality wine that stands the test of time.
12/30/21, 5:48 PM - Sure wish I did have a few. Only had one bottle of 82, blew me away. Having a 2000 tomorrow night.
10/20/21, 3:14 PM - did you open a few hours before drinking?
10/21/21, 6:55 PM - Great, thank you. I have no more Heitz and want to buy a few more bottles and deciding on what vintages. I always open 5-8 hours before drinking, especially MV. It seems the best reviews do open a few hours prior.
10/10/21, 2:05 PM - This type of review is what I look for. So important to do the Slo ox and 1 hour decant for a wine if this caliber to drink well. Look forward to drinking the couple I have soon. Thank you
6/30/21, 9:59 PM - Not sure when or where I purchased this bottle, but I chuckled after reading your review and will enjoy it with a variety of seafood and vegetable dishes this weekend in the northeast of the US. I hope this finds you well during these challenging times.
10/22/19, 6:58 PM - This may not be your style of wine. I let them breath for 7-8 hours and they transform into a beautiful wine. After one or two hours you get what you describe.
5/7/21, 7:02 PM - I don't think I ever responded. I agree, when in a restaurant you do not have the luxury of the breathing time. In restaurants I keep my wine consumption to simple wines that open easily, or, sometimes, I actually go into the restaurant early in the day and purchase the wine, and ask that they they pour it into a decanter. Before Covid I used to take clients out a lot and would use this method. Hope you are well and enjoying all the great wines of world!
5/7/21, 6:37 PM - As always, thank you for your review. I'm just getting into Australian wines. But I have to ask, where did you get the expression "velvet Glove with Iron Fist". Was it Konosuke Matsushita's book? One of my favorite books.
12/29/20, 7:51 PM - I just bought a couple of bottles of the 2016 and thought I would check out reviews. The funny thing is, last week I printed out a recipe for pistachio pesto from la Cucina Italiana magazine. It does not have the arugula or garlic you mention but I will add it. I've had a few bottles of the 2015 of this wine. It does require a half hour to settle down but one of my favorite whites.
12/5/20, 3:28 PM - I have not had this wine, thinking about it and read your review. You so nail it when you say "so much fun to drink it and talk about all the flavors". That is why I like to have friends over and open a couple of great wines. Sit around after dinner and finish the wines and talk about all the great characteristics of each wine.
11/12/20, 8:17 AM - Thank you for the tip on the 2000 Lagrange. I see it available for just over $100.00. What a bargain for a 2000 from an excellent estate
7/10/20, 2:24 PM - I just bought a bottle and saw your review after some research. You drink some very nice wines. After looking at your reviews I'm going to try a bottle of 2006 Le Macchiole Messorio Toscana IGT. I look forward to trying a Merlot grape from Italy. I've been educating myself on Italian wines, especially ones with usual fruit forward grapes like syrah, the Italian soil adds some earthiness to the grape character that really rounds it out.
3/14/20, 9:56 PM - Still going strong, fruit and all. Had it tonight from a friends cellar. We drank the whole bottle to make sure.
3/13/19, 2:07 PM - Thanks for the review. I had an 03 Steele chardonnay that I had forgotten about. I had it stored at 53 degrees since I bought it. It was the WOTN. A $20.00 bottle! Figured I'd search for another 03 and found this Kistler. I'm going for it.
12/3/18, 8:09 PM - I was eyeing this one in my wine wine cabinet where it has been sitting at 55 degrees since release. You convinced me do drink it this coming weekend. What a bargain, I think I paid barely over 100.00. Little less than the SE right?
12/8/17, 1:33 PM - Could not agree with you more. AW makes fantastic cabs when blending only small amounts of cab franc in. I was thinking of buying some of this because it's on sale for 49.00. Now I know why.
1/27/17, 3:20 PM - I think you are correct about the slow aging in a well cooled cellar. I have been keeping my wines at 53 for the last 15 years and recently pulled a 15 Year old Selyem that was youthful but spectacular.
4/15/16, 3:10 PM - I'm going to open a bottle tomorrow night. I'll post the review so that you can have your question answered. I love the Cayuse and No Girls. 1st aged bottle I will try.
2/14/14, 5:05 PM - Relax. It's their Petite Syrah. When they start playing with their Monte Bello chemistry it's time for a review like this. These guys have been a class act long enough to earn some respect.
11/28/13, 11:20 AM - I saw your comment about what this was like when released. Well I was a 30 year old just getting into wines, but this was my 1st special wine purchase. The people that introduced me to wine always said if it's not balanced in youth, it will not be balanced in maturity. I still live by that adage.Needless to say this wine was perfectly balanced. I consumed the whole case in one year, layers and layers of dark black sweet fruits is what I remember. The 1st bottle I had with a beer and cheddar soup with crusty bread, love at first sip.
9/5/13, 1:35 PM - Songoose: No decant, just opened. I do normally like that barnyard nose and taste. This wine had it early in the night but after it opened up it was earth/fruit on the nose and taste. If I did not know better I would have thought it was a super Tuscan blend. Next time I open one I will let it air even longer, probably open 7am for drinking later that night. I absolutely loved this one.
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
