Just terrific. Perfect balance of acid and sugar. Drunk at Wild Flor with fried rice pudding parcel and rhubarb.

This is good. Slightly closed, reductive on opening. Soon opens up to reveal nice fruit, classy oak, fairly restrained and fresh. Quite long. Only 12.6%. Chassagne would be the call blind I reckon.

Plush brambly nose. Ripe fruit but not too ripe. 2017 acidity. Incredibly drinkable. 13%

Unripe pear, a little bit of lemon blossom on the nose. Really pretty. Palate has good tension - enough weight to give it some substance, nice little mineral streak on the finish. Nice, fluid texture. Feels a bit young but it’s lovely now too. Not your sister-in-law’s Sauvignon Blanc (just me? ok). 13%

Delightful. Served blind. Everyone was in Bordeaux, right bank. Smelled like expensive Pomerol. Exotic, complex, rich. 25 year old Merlot from Collio!

This is excellent. Nose is quite broad and ripe, baked quince, pastry, some kind of spice - nutmeg? Palate more of the same with a bead of generous acidity. Fine mousse. Apparently zero dosage but it’s not missed at all.

Not particularly profound or sophisticated but very typical and characterful. Grilled meat, iodine, dark fruit, pepper.

Really bright, strawberry, orange peel nose. Clear Pinot fruit. On the palate the acidity is high, and a touch sour. Dominates the palate a little. Interesting attempt at a maceration rosé sparkler.

Christmas Day with rib of beef. Archetypal. Not too much ripe fruit any more. Structure and freshness to the fore. 12.5%. (From magnum.)

Actually delicious. 20 years old. Mellowed. Fresh enough. More in balance than a Charvin CNDP 2007 drunk alongside.

Dark berries. Bit of sous bois development. Really fresh acidity. Good wine but not much classic pepper, iodine etc.

Well this is terrific incredibly pure nose of blackberries, touch of spice, a little dried fruit. Palate lithe and fresh.

Really interesting. Dark salmon pink. Orange character carries through to the nose wifh bitter orange and sweet mandarin notes, candied strawberries. Palate fairly substantial weight, fresh, quite long, only 12.5%. Surprised by this. Really like it. £13 from the Wine Society. Cannot argue with that.

Lovely northern Rhone nose. Licorice, meat, herbs. Palate lots of dark fruit, fairly ripe, touch tiring without food. But that nose is great.

Nose was a little odd at first. Touch of volatility, maybe a slightly stewed note. Opened c3 hrs before dinner by the time we drank it it had cleaned up. Dark, brooding savoury notes. Huge contrast with the Burgundian Monprivato 2009 alongside. (At Wild Flor.)

Really very expressive nose - dark fruit, rose, violet, incense. Palate fresh and correct, good amount of fruit but certainly an acid driven wine. Delicious.

Not the most complex but delightful. Ripe fruit but fairly light in body, good fresh acidity. For drinking in the short term

Finally seems to have come round. No longer tough as nails. It has filled out - now very classic, raspberry-ish fruit, earth, tar.

Final bottle. After a long sleep this is proper Cornas. Meat and gravy. Dried olives. Savoury and umami rich. But the palate is very correct and fresh. 13%

Explosive berry nose soars out of the glass a moment after the bottle has been opened - raspberry, cranberry, touch of blackcurrant. Palate has a very slight prickle. All the fruit plus a firm, cleansing dry kick of minerality. So good, so complete

Guests said it was “like boozy Shloer”. They weren’t wrong. Barely a wine, more an alcoholic pop. Quite pleasant all that said.

Slightly toasty nose. Sherbet-y strawberry fruit on the palate, like crunch unripe strawberries. Boy there’s some acid. Relatively harmonious, and not shrill or disjointed. Just a lot. Better with food (crab cakes).

Delicious, quite decadent, soaring nutty ripe orchard fruits. Just laying it all out. It’s about pleasure, warmth, generosity. Not going to get any better surely. Edit: I’ve finally twigged what it reminds me of: crostata d’albicocca. Sweet pastry and ripe apricots. Not nervy or sophisticated but you’ll have a good time.

Pale, light, fresh sappy red fruit, 12.5%. Not the most complex but it’s definitely burgundy. Wish I had more. People who use the word “smashable” (ugh) would describe this as… er… smashable.

Good for the price / appellation. Tons of red fruit, cleansing, tannic grip keeping things in focus. Maybe a touch of that Brunello earth. For £12 in a sale it’s hard to quibble.

Gorgeous nose, wild raspberry, cherry, medicinal herbs, earth. Palate much the same with everything in place. Much more open than a bottle approx 18 months ago. No rush but I can’t see this improving - it’s laying it all out there.

Well made, very bright crunchy but the poster below that describes it as “un peu bonbon” has it about right. A bit sweet for my liking. Better with a touch of chill from 30 mins in the fridge.

Papaya, mango, maybe a touch of spice on the nose. Palate still plump fruit first but really mouthwatering salinity. This has dried out with age and is now low sugar Kabinett level I would say. Will be great with food.

Rather nice. Slight, supple, rather pure raspberry fruit. Little bit of iron. Decent focus. Lithe. 13%. Fascinating interpretation of mencia, a variety of which I have only a certain amount of familiarity - but all others I have had have been weightier.

Been sleeping in the cellar since maybe 2012. Golden colour. Touch of maturity on the nose with honey notes, but really it’s lemon, shortbread, yellow plum maybe greengage skin. Palate fresh as a daisy: lemon, barley sugar but not sweet. With hot smoked salmon from Loch Torridon, on Christmas Day.

Second wine, 18 years old. Cr*p vintage everywhere in Italy. Should be rubbish, right? Wrong. Certainly at the riper, plummier end of things for Italy. Glossy fruit, still quite rich. But there’s enough acidity and just about tannin (though mostly resolved) to keep this on track, with grip and focus. An over-performer.

In a good place. Bright fruit, cherry almost boiled sweet in character but not actually sweet. Light body, fragrant. Tannins just there but basically resolved. Very pleasurable to drink now and for the next 2-3 years maybe.
