Saturday, September 14, 2013 - The Papies 20th Anniversary (Notting Hill Kitchen, Notting Hill, London): This vintage remains our favourite of the Pontet Canet stable and absolutely love the no nonsense purity of it. Well made and to the point with none of the new age changes they made additions that make the 08,09 & 10 feel so charmless (great wines but lack the special factor). Dark in colour, youthful glossy. On the nose it needs a bit of time to develop but once it does it is just magical with lots of dark fruit, spicy and light tobacco. On the palate it is vibrant, super well made, pure and so elegant. For lovers of un-adulterated Bordeaux this should hit the spot! So sell your 08s and buy 01s that is what we did! And the more we drink this the more we think we should be selling our 09s and 10s!

9/22/2013 7:42:00 AM - Interesting commentary Papies, as I just picked up some 2008 PC halves at $45 US, and last year bought a few 2001 and 2002 PC magnums at auction. So I appreciate your input as far as what vintage of PC to buy, but I already eschew the 09 and 10 due to the ridiculous prices. From your notes, I take it that the provenance was good, but I ask how long you allowed the wine to aerate to hit its "sweet spot"? Last comment, our 25th anniversary is Sept 25th, and I am still trying to figure out what to take along to our dinner which will just be the two of us. (Dining at Manon Restaurant, Lambertville, NJ-USA; a BYOB gem.)
