Friday, August 5, 2016 - Purchased on release, stored at 55 degrees. Popped N poured. Tasted at around 60 degrees. I forgot this was mostly Grenache(65%)/35% Syrah. Medium ruby w/little edge bricking this presented a fragrant nose of mixed red/black berries, aromatic pipe tobacco & kirsch notes. Any oak seemed fully resolved and integrated. Rich port like mid palate of ripe sweet black berries with subtle notes of toast and licorice ending in a relatively long finish. Second day tasted against a 375ml pour off the '05 d'Arenburg Dead Arm the Eclipse got lighter and the Dead Arm put on weight and tasted much better than it did two weeks prior. All in all this was fairly tasty stuff but better on its own or w/a char-broiled steak & mushrooms.
