Monday, December 18, 2023 - Dark garnet in color with slight clearing at the edges. Full, forward & fragrant nose of ripe fruit aromas of cherries, blackberries & plums with overtones of floral notes of violets & dusty/earthy/loam notes, spice notes of cloves, iron, cocoa/mocha, leather, truffles, minerals, anise, tobacco, herbs & a hint of balsamic & cedar notes. Full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, lush, ripe fruit flavors of dark cherries, blackberries & mulberries with herbs, cocoa, truffles, minerals, spices & a bit of vanilla/oak in the background. Long lingering smooth finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & airing but at 17 years of age, it is quite close to or at its peak but could maintain its current stage of development for several additional years. However, I doubt any further development would occur from additional aging. Fill was in the neck above capsule; cork was clean & intact. An amazing Brunello which has aged quite well!
