A serious structured barbaresco. Dark, dark, dark cherry. Ripe fruit but fitting for the vintage, still very tannic and dry. A bit of leather, some earth, sandalwood. Not much on the floral side, more tar. Traditional. Very likeable. But not for nebb noobs.

Flowery nose. Ripe fruit (mostly red), wood shavings, and light spice flavors. Medium body. A slight sweetness in the background, which was unusual in a Barbaresco in my experience but went really well with the rest of the flavor profile.

From a 375, purchased at a restaurant for $24. A hell of a good deal. Firm, dry tannins gave excellent structure, and in conjunction with acidity, this went very well with lamb tagine. Some tar, but mostly floral and herbal. Rose, menthol, mint, licorice, and dusty/sour cherry. Some good depth provided by black fruits on the midpalate. Best immediately upon pour from bottle, as the wine flattened with air. K&L Bistro in Sebastopol nailed this wine list addition.

Great wine. Bought from the winemaker last summer, he's a great chap. Very special bottle for my partner and me, and we've have been enjoying it last night and today. Fresh, very expressive nose of dark fruit, orchard stone fruit, bright wood, dust, with delicious hints of baking spices and mediterranean herbs. In the mouth it is clean, with medium-low acidity, balanced tannins and fairly long finish. Maybe it could wait a little longer? There's still room for something spectacular to emerge on the palate, but so far it's decidedly good and we'd get it again.

Very deep clear ruby in the glass. Highly expressive, clean nose of red fruit, florals, forest, smoke, leather. In the mouth: intense dark cherry, dried flowers, herbs, "attic." Medium body, medium+ acidity, high-intensity, raspy tannins, long finish. Drinking extremely well at this young age but still has quite a ways to go.

With Amy at Erbaluce. Out of the bottle, Nebbiolo cherry and dust, leather. Picks up more nuance with time in the glass. Maybe a little young and not the most brilliant Barbaresco, but it scratches the itch. Tannic, broad-shouldered; hasn't really come together yet. Might improve with another few years.

Half bottle. Medium depth. Cheery cherry aromatics. Fairly generous, smooth Nebbiolo with lower acidity. Some pine needles as well. Approachable, easy style that drinks well but falls short in terms of precision and drive. Honestly, it drinks more like a generic Nebbiolo than a distinguished Barbaresco but is still quite good and a reasonable value.

Typical brick red color and very good clarity. Aromas are muted fruit and detect some heat. Palate is tobacco and dried cherry with a slight drying midpalate. Medium/+ finish and medium/- mouthfeel. Good wine.

I like this wine a lot- great fruit! -ripe dark fruits. This isn't a pasta wine though- as the wine shop recommended. This needs some roasted or braised meats. Some hearty foods- tasted disjointed with a red sauce- but drank great on its own.

Deep ruby color with aromas of black berry, black cherry, violet perfume, and licorice. The palate is decorated with black fruit, violets, truffle, tobacco, black pepper, leather, nutmeg, vanilla bean, and a dark chocolate finish. Bold tannins, yet velvety body. All in all, this is a fantastic Barbaresco for its price point.

Dinner at Delfina with Ricky. Extremely tight on the nose and palate which didn't open up much in glass over an hour. Dark and brooding black fruits, licorice, tar and leather with a nice acid streak on the midpalate. This was not carrying it's 14.5% alcohol very well as the heat on this was distracting. It finished with bitter, harsh tannins that will need lots of time in bottle to integrate. Overall, a disappointing effort which will hopefully improve with bottle age.

Touch floral notes, caramel, sweet tar, and orange peel nuances; soft, velvety entry, dark tar and truffle notes in the mouth, medium body, good extract, dry grippy tannins, but not heavy or overly tannic; little hot in the finish. Not quite as balanced as the 06, but solid.

On the nose: Dark cocoa powder, leather, violets, hints of dark vanilla, faint dark fruit.
On the pallete: Dark chocolate, earthiness, leather, dark fruit. Good acidity and very big tannins. We tried some of this before dinner and the aromas and flavors were great, but the tannins a bit overwhelming (After 1.5 hours decanting). With a top notch steak, the tannins blended with the food and the subtle flavors shined. This wine could certainly age for another few years, but if you have it now, do it with some big food.

Soft and smooth red fruit with dry hay. Balanced acidity and very food friendly. Great match with pasta and sausage tossed with fresh tomato sauce.

This wine really disappointed. The aromas and flavors were flat from start to finish. I drank this over three days to give it a chance.

North Berkeley Portfolio Tasting: Brief Notes (Presidio Golf Course, San Francisco): Deep color. Ripe, lovely plum scents. Surprising volume and richness, but added complexity from a tangy licorice, black fruit core. A bargain for what's in the bottle.
