NobleRottersSydney - Christmas Lunch 2019 (Geoffrey's place): [Stephen] {screwcap, 14.5%} Still quite a dark garnet. Developing nose of straight blackcurrants – just shouts cabernet, and the spicy earthiness says Coonawarra too. Seems surprisingly young on the palate for a decade-old second wine, although the seams begin to show a bit, with the sweet ripe currant fruit quickly giving way to a dryish finish becoming more assertive, even strident. There are low/medium dusty tannins, controlled oak, medium acid and medium weight, although the wine dips a bit on the mid-palate. No need to keep this longer.

Ten year old Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon. Still young, bright red, good fruit, soft fleshy tannins, acid and wood in harmony. Good mouth-feel. Will last longer in a good cellar but drinking nicely now.

When opened this bottle was cherries, cherries and more cherries on the nose. My initial thought was that we were heading for one of those old fashioned new world jam explosions. How wrong I was!
Decanted two hours before our main course of rib eye steak. With air this developed nicely into rather a good wine. Oak notes show through and there is enough tannin to give this structure and ageing potential. You cannot mistake this for anything but a big new world fruit driven wine. If you want claret then drink Bordeaux! This is a very nice example of a grown up new world wine - delicious.

Ruby. Liquorice, vanilla and blackberry. Dry, furry tannins, rounded. Full bodied, long length, medium plus acid. Has ample years in front of it.

As per my previous note - a lovely wine that needs some air. Plenty of ageing potential
