Popped & poured for our Xtremo virtual tasting. Substantial browning evident here. Nose was a bit funky at first, but faded with some time. Light to medium body wine. Dried sour cherries here, tannins fully resolved. Somewhat short finish. Pleasant enough barolo but waited to long to open.

Drank at Pieros after finishing off a 1997 Tiezzi BdM, which was preferred. This wine was lighter than expected. Red cherries, dried tannins, some earthy dustiness, and slightly bitter on the finish. A pleasant enough barolo but a bit too much on the light side for my taste. Still good fruit level, tannins mostly resolved. Some tar too. Finish was medium length

quality & mature wines tasting event (my home): medium light transparent brown excellent old dried ripe cherries nose, deep truffles & earthy notes and acetone hints slightly oxidised, medium bodied, soft integrated tannins, ripe dry old cherries flavours, soft structured, medium complexity, well balanced and harmonised, medium finish & aftertaste. requires 2 hours of decanting. seems at peak (or even at bit behind ?) - drink now.

HDH auction tasting at Tru; 9/18/2015-9/19/2015: There's a slight bit of wooliness on the nose here, but there's some pleasant notes of tar and mushroom as well. The palate is quite ripe and shows some red fruit notes. The tannins have receded into the back, so this is very much accessible now. Certainly, this is on the more fruit-forward side of things but still quite classical and restrained.

I suppose it was drinkable, but the V/A prevented it from being enjoyable. 1/3 bottle remained for day 2, not sure if it showed any better then as I was already back in CO. Flawed for my palate; a shame as the one I opened ~ 18 months ago just killed it.
Slow-O 3 hours, served non-blind.

Ripe fruit, with some drying tannins and a thinness/ astringency in spite of phenolic ripe (over) ripeness. A little dusty and herbal on the back end. I am not sure where this is going, and may come together, but for now, it si out of place a bit. I have not loved the Aldo Conterno wines form this era. 89 pts

Aroma: opens with cherries, some dried fruit, and after an hour or so, roses, tar, earth and more dried fruit. Medium-bodied +, with excellent acidity and after an hour, tight tannins. Very nice balance. Very good length.
Available, but over the top. The amount of dried fruit on the nose was too much. Drink up. 91p

Exceeded expectations. Recent notes have had me worried this might be tiring, or worse, over the hill. Not so. Slow-O for 3 hours, then aerated to decanter for 2 hours, and still, the wind didn't hit its mark until roughly the 8hr open stage. rpavlovich's note is spot on.
In a very good place now, and for the next 4-5 years, perhaps more. In fact, I'll set a date of 2017 to open my next one. Really well composed, excellent balance. I look forward to tertiary development from this point forward. 14,0% abv, highly recommended

Very high iodine nose, leather, menthol, soy sauce, ripe black fruit, sandalwood... very fresh tannins, very high acidity, red berries, very nice fruit, great Barolo!!

Incredible aromatics here...cinnamon, clove, spices. Smells robust, like food. The palate is electric with vibrant (not burning) acidity, great bursts of red fruit extract, and a long, dry finish. Tannins have good grip. Excellent wine in an even better place right now.
Very disappointing because the amount of premature age. Soy and sweet baking spices on the nose were prominent...almost seemed not worth drinking. Then on the palate it came together much better and showed some fruit, but I feel the wine is just past peak. After a couple hours of being open the fruit was gone. The new oak, ripe vintage, and modern winemaking at that time is what I feel caused problems with the ageability of this and the Cicala.

30min decanting. Side by side with the 97 Cicala. More refined and elegant nose. Dark cherry is present and so is a light oak feel but more elegant and doesnt have that sweet feel of the Cigala. Well round ont he palate, light on the complexity and better balance. 90+ drink from now

Brownish-red color, ripe and sweet fruit on the nose with some violet and balsamic flavors. I liked the acidity in the wine which went well with the italian food. Nice modern, medium-bodied barolo that is ready to drink.

(Trattoria Marsupino, Briaglia-Piemonte) Poured directly from bottle. Rusty, reddish color. Good fruity nose. Lots of fruit (black berries, black currant and strawberries) Leather, acetone and liquorice. Medium aftertaste. Drinking well now. Quite a modern Barolo. Lacks the depth from more wood. Very clean wine.

4th Annual Italian Offline (Campagnola, Chicago, USA): Medium-ruby colour. Aromas of milk chocolate, figs, blackberry, licorice, tar, and violets. Medium-full bodied, great acidity and structure. Shows mineral, black plum, violet, tar, and anise notes on the palate. Long finish, ~45-50s, with tar, spice, and herb notes. Lovely, but needs 5+ years yet.

Tasted April 26, 2008 at an offline. No formal notes. Good Barolo but needs a little more time in the bottle in my opinion. Might pick up another point or two with some additional age.

Loved the nose on this. Full on, intense aromas of coffee, raspberry, violet, orange, dried apricot and blackcurrant. The dry palate has excellent tannin structure and yet is somewhat surprisingly approachable and balanced now when consumed with food. A really expressive and interesting wine.

Light red to brown color. Nose of a mature red, almost maderized.
Sweet red cherry notes, but tannins overwhelm. 89. Drink now.

Unfortunately this was completely oxidized, like a wine 30 years older than it really is. Brown, acidic with tea flavors. Off bottle.
