91 pts

Nose muted but coaxed to life after 30minutes of air. Red fruits…strawberry and rhubarb with a hint of baking spices. Palate is balanced with lively, well rounded acidity. Floral but not over the top. Very vibrant and refreshing.

From half bottle sealed under Diam. Immediately expressive, with highly perfumed florals and ripe berry fruits. It has nice flesh and good depth and plenty of mineral lurking just below the surface. There's a touch of undergrowth and a finish that is expressive and expansive.

Lots of cured and roasted meat notes, tobacco too, and a little smoke. Dried cherry and plum keep coming up, but this is overall much more savory than fruity. Mushrooms, dark soil, pine needles and cloves provide accents to the intense meatiness. Full and a little chunky, with rather rustic tannins. It has great acidity for 2009, but de Montille always seems to have a strong acid line, so I'm not exactly surprised by that. It became slightly fresher and fruitier with air, but I'm not so confident in its ability to improve with time in the bottle. I would give it a decant if I had the opportunity to open another bottle soon. If I did have more, I would keep checking up on it, as I'm not sure there's much room for improvement. Very nice, classically styled, quite serious, but not particularly fine example of Beaune Greves. It's a tangy meat bomb, and if you like that kind of thing you'll have a lot of fun with it. Save it for some fatty roasted fare and you will be making the most of it.

Tasted blind. Rich, ripe and fruity, some greenness as well, a touch of heat on the finish. Decent but lacks some precision for a higher score (89). Tasted it a few months later and that bottle was crisper, red fruit, some residual CO2. Much fresher (92).

Cherry, strawberry, raspberry, rhubarb, hints of what almost seems like rosemary; well-structured, long-lived, a little tight and tannic and still too young but very good indeed

My 4th bottle of 12. The first tasted over a year ago was reasonable, then 2 flawed bottles. This was not flawed but very poor for its level. The nose was typical but it tested thin and with no length even after 6 hours. Is this a dumb phase? I will leave my others at least 2-3 years in the hope they improve. I have had very much nicer 2009 village level wines recently in particular Roche de Bellene NSG which would have scored 92.

Very young: clean floral, with a lot of red berries and earthy notes. Very clean mineral attack that resembles the nose. Straight long finish. Ths will surely evolve in something much more interesting given amazing acidity and youthfulness

Ok, now we're talking - beautiful Greves gravel, baked earth notes. High-toned (but not obnoxious) red fruits. Well built on the palate. I suspect this will improve further.

A translucent wine that taunts its youth through its dark core and bright crimson rim. On the nose there are exotic floral aromas of violets, followed by plums, dark cherries, kirsch, strawberries, incense, toasted oak, and warm oriental spices. Opulent but reserved on the palate with juicy plums, cherries, strawberries on the attack leading to a midpalate with slight citric peel notes, fresh acidity, and slight earthiness. The finish is long on this mid bodied wine filled with sweet dark fruits, anise, cloves, cinnamon, a balanced amount of creamy vanilla, and sappy silky tannins. A beautiful wine that is simply delicious, great pure flavors that express the terroir from which this comes from, drinking beautifully right now but can age for many more years.

Very focused, clean aromas of candied red cherry, kirsch and bit of smokey oak eventually revealing very pretty, pure floral notes with time. This is tangy and energetic in the mouth with good acidity married to very good quality fruit. Not particularly expressive now but the quality of fruit is deep and there is plenty of inner mouth tension and energy to make this delicious even right right now. Not at all in a heavy style and a bit of a relief compared to some other '09s. Very sophisticated and classy.

nose a bit closed - only revealing subtle notes of mushrooms, barnyard and smoke. smooth entry though backward on palate as well - smoky cherry finish. needs more time.

Se boit très bien, sur les arômes de fruits frais (cerises), un peu simple pour l'appellation toutefois.

Some Wines from a Spring Trip to France; 4/4/2015-4/11/2015 (Paris and Burgundy): Light ruby. Funky aromatics of brett and aldehyde with suppressed fruit and astringent finish. It tried but could not overcome these flaws.
