Agree very much with Zazzaman’s last notes overall. Mild nose, with the familiar sweet fruit (plum and apricot) and enjoyable spices. Tannins were nicely soft, and the high alcohol content did not overpower the broad and lingering palette. This was the last bottle, and it seems to be in an ideal place, similar to the last two years, perhaps mildly improved. Good wine, could be a better value though.

Reading the last few Community comments I approached another bottle with some trepidation. Decanted 3 hours. No age on rim. Sweet fruit and spices on nose, extending to palate, softish tannins and good finish. Luckily this bottle wasn’t dull and drab but it’s not great value and other CDP producers do better at this price point. Acceptable drink though.

I don’t think that is on the end of the drinking window as others have wrote in the tasting notes. It have more years to develop. Anyway in this time is not improved and is an average Châteauneuf du Pape

The developing consensus below is, unfortunately, apt for us. This was quite thin, lacking in verve and much in the way of substance. Quite boring over three nights.

Agree with other tasters, a bit flat and one dimensional with soft cherry fruit and not much else. Certainly at peak, drink now or soon, won’t improve, nothing special here. Terrible QPR at 30 US dollars.

Nose with red berries, some liquorice, garrigue and a bit of liqueur feeling. Medium bodied with red berries, quite noticeable alcoholic fire, some pepper and other spice, and some tannin. Will probably not improve, 86 p.
Yes, this is a Châteaneuf-du-Pape, but I still think the alcoholic component is too prominent on the palate (the label says 14.5%), and this is reflected in my score.
From a half bottle.

Ample red fruit and licorice, but unfortunately also some alcohol on the nose. Powerful on the palate with firm tannins and lots of fruit. After two hours in the glass it started falling apart and a slightly bitter acidity dominated the palate after that. Nevertheless, I liked it very much with food but I wouldn't keep this that much longer.

Eðalklúbbur, vínsmakk #1 vor 2015 (Marbakkabraut 12): Fjórða og síðasta Oratoire flaskan. Svipaður litur og hjá 2010. Dökk ber, skógarbotn í ilmi. Einnig krydd.

Mediterranean nose of bay, basil, and marjoram, smokehouse, pronounced terroir, and dusty minerality. A lighter styled CdP, no burly elements here. Iodine, Serrano Ham, mint, and eucalyptus, on the palate. Great acidity, low tannin, tangy finish. At around $35 it is a nice vale.

From 375 ml. Aromas of brown spice, candied pecan, rum cake, stone, cherry and black raspberry. Robust and sweet ripe fruit on the palate with more sweet spice and hints of mineral. Full throughout, with big lush tannins. Full finish with loads of fruit, spice, and some heat. Decadent in style.

the fruit showed well better on the 2nd day, fresh raspberries, cocoa powder and violets on the palate, strait-forward with juicy red and blue fruit, good energy, balanced, a decent value that drinks well now and will continue to for a decade

Decent basic Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Decanted. Needs an hour or so to get its act together. Vanilla and cedar nose. Savoury. Spice and herbal notes indeed. Grenache very dominant after 90 minutes or so. Seems at it best at this point (and preferred to what came next, at 2 - 2.5 hours from opening, seems slightly out of balance and oddly, less smooth). Medium finish, somewhat acidic, spicy and prickly. It's accessible now; works best with food (nice with grilled peppers). It's good but not particularly subtle or precise. I'd keep the other bottle till 2015-17.

Annual Wine Group Summer Event - Loads of Wine (Siggy & Jenny's Place, Mpls, MN): Medium dark red color. Pop & pour, I think, but had been open for at least an hour, drank a small pour. really nice nose showing violets, red fruits, herbs. But the palate is just not ready and i found a green quality that hopefully will mellow and integrate with time, red fruits, herb de Provence, quite tannic. If this comes around the score could improve.

Drank blind and together with another similarly priced Grenache-Syrah blend: the 2010 Abstract from Orin Swift Cellars of California. This CdP needed much more time in the decanter to open up. At first, quite muted and restrained - both on the nose and in the palate. Then after a around 2 hours, pleasant berry and spice aromas emerging. Much more structure and firmness in the mid-palate than the Orin Swift, which was a bit hollow, thin and short by comparison. The clear winner of the night once the wine "caught up".

Ripe raspberries, plum, violets, leaf from the crusher, sweet earth, smoked meats, wild herbs, liquorice and a little spice are all of the things you'll find on the nose and in the mouth. It's creamy and plush in the mouth, with plenty of flavour delivered onto the gums gently but with a certain degree of authority. Tannins are round and sweet and there's good freshness once all of the flora and fruit subsides.

Perfectly acceptable bottle of CndP, but felt like it was missing something. The fruit was lovely, yet it felt that there should have been more of it. Same with the palate, where the structure was there, but it felt like it was missing something. Almost felt like we were drinking a wine that was going through the motions...

On opening I found the nose a little shut down, but with air it opened up to reveal nice peppery and floral notes as well as dark berry fruit. On the palate it was all finesse, though the tannins in this wine are still a bit grippy, there was plenty of crunchy black fruit, a little bloodiness, pepperiness with a lingering floral finish in the end palate. Very subtle and enjoyable. Med Long. Could stand a year or two of cellaring.

Very good. Decanted 1hr before serving around 63F. Paired with braised beef ribs and gravy, baked potato and sweet corn. Structure in wine contrasted the food fantastically. Very approachable du-Pape at this age. Pepper, cinnamon, and black fruits.

Slightly translucent ruby red color with orange hues in the rim. Very elegant, restrained and almost closed nose of ripe Rhône fruit, rusticity and slight, woody oak, that leads to expect an elegant and rather lightbodied CdP. However, the wine manages to surprise big time: the palate is nowhere near the elegant and somewhat muted nose. Very big and generous palate with initial sweet prunes leading into dried figs, fresh plums, sweet oak and old leather jacket. Mouthfeel is very full-bodied, round and intense with pronounced aromatics. Slightly sweet vanilla oak of the mid-palate transitions into drier, woodsy spice in the lengthy finish while the mouthwatering acidity takes over the palette. Quite some alcoholic heat, which can be expected with CdP. Overall the wine is very young and almost truculent, but surprisingly balanced and elegant despite its monolithic size. Requires lengthy aeration now, but a bit less as it ages. Has great structure aging-wise; do not open this for the next 4-5 years. Good QPR even at 37,90e.

A good young CndP. Lots of fruit and spice, seasoned with some meat and licqourice. A slight bit of alcohol pushing through, but nevertheless this has quite a good balance already. It might be worthwile cellaring a few bottles.

Dark berry nose with some raspberry brightness and notes of chocolate, salt liquorice, leather, charcoal and dates. Medium to fullbodied palate with refreshing acidity and chewy smooth texture. Dark forest berries, spices, chocolate and almost greasy smooth liquorice in the lingering finish. Maybe a touch of heat, but really nothing to worry about. Very nice stuff with good typicité matched with balanced and structured expression.
