Deep ruby with pale edges, new leather licorice tar burnt cedar toasted match box toasted vanilla basil tiger bomb menthol stewed blue and black berries in the nose. Light creamy mouthfeel, burnt toast, tannin on the tongue and roof, very smoky, light blueberry, plum spice, dark chocolate chips with some good acidity still. So much flavor to unpack here, this just offers so much still and it is absolutely fantastic. I keep getting new tastes and aromas each time I come back to it. That’s what I want in a wine, I’m going to buy more and update my rating as is it might not be high enough

Airtime makes massive difference to this wine. As a PnP it still has fruit but with air it hollows out, fruit leaving and devoid of tannins, just a pale sour fruit. Drink up. Don’t decant. Don’t linger for more than three or four hours. (Wine hollowed after two hours in the glass. Was still holding together in the bottle.)

Great showing and built to go the distance so no rush here. Lots of power but nicely balanced with intense notes of plums, cherries, conifer, sandalwood, and forest floor on a singed Bordeaux-like background. Smooth, seductive, and savory, with serious structure, depth, and complexity. A lovely drop.

Nice wine. Drinking well here, still full of fruit but with great development of the tannins. Will continue to develop and age well. The 2016 window that CT is giving it is way off.

2008 was a classic Cabernet year. the Newton Cab. has a medium body but not the depth of a Spring Mountain Cab. but, well made. With silky tannins with nice blackberry and current overtones. It has somewhat of a short finish and is a good $30+ Napa Cab. value. Drink through 2018.

Simpler than I had expected. Lovely color, not a strong nose, but a bit of black fruit and a fair touch of oak. To me, it seemed that this wine just stopped at mid-palate; the initial taste was fine, and the finish was fairly long, but in between there wasn't much. Seemed a bit thin, to tell the truth. Certainly a decent bottle, but it wasn't exciting. Easy drinking, but wasn't memorable. At this price point ($48) I expect more than this has to offer. Don't see much room for improvement with further aging.

The 2008 unfiltered Cabernet Sauvignon opens with notes of black fruits, cassis and black currants revealing more creme de cassis and black currant characteristics along with good acidity, sweet tannin and a Bordeaux Right Bank aromatic and flavor profile. The fruit forward aromas are pronounced in the youth of this wine which promises elegance as complex herbal layers of juniper and bramble. This wine should drink nicely for the next 10-15 years.

Really enjoyed it. Smelled great coming out of the bottle. Strong tastes, but good. Saved for a special evening.

Hennepin Lake's Annual Tasting (Tons of Napa Cabs) (Minneapolis, MN): A lot going on with this one. Spice, cherry, oak, vanilla and blueberries combine together on this medium tannic and concentrated wine. Nice balanced effort that will improve with some time.
