Great wine with lots of power yet extremely polished. I dont see this wine getting much better from here and will drink the rest of my bottles in the next 3 years or so. Drink this delicious wine with food.

There are time where extracted wines cannot find a balance between the strong fruit presence with the other elements of a wine. This Jumping Goat is really hitting it's strides! Dark Blue Fruit, prunes, blend in with cedar, allspice, mixing with dark loam and held neatly together by smooth tannin. Chose this wine to go with baby back ribs, which can easily overwhelm many wines. They all balanced nicely.

Melka Estates Tasting (Napa Grill, Zurich): Big Melka Estates tasting with various wines produced by Philippe and Cherie Melka, both present at the event, including the largest Jumping Goat vertical to date. Selected notes of the winemaker comments included in the tasting story. All wines we tasted showed a European inspired handwriting (Graves, Rhone valley) especially for older vintages with later vintages (2012- 2014) coming across quite heavy on the extraction. But with most scores in the 91-94 range (few exceptions included Jumping Goat 2005 and Martinez 2015, the first vintage for the latter), the line-up struggled to meet my high expectations.
Tasting note: Intense cassis fruit but in cool style. Black tea. More power on the palate but with a fine tannic structure.

During a vertical tasting, flight one 07-09. well managed Napa CabSav. Richer than the Mekerea but still good balance. Notes of dark fruit, spices. The 05 and 11 had the edge with their composed balance. The 07 was dead with alcoholic, oxidative notes.

Decanted for two hours, drank over two hours. Dark, almost black in the decanter. Nose is rich with leather and baking spices. On the palace this wine is so well put together it's incredible. Dark fruit, big, but not in an over extracted sort of way, it seems like it comes naturally to this wine. Excellent!

Opened for two hours and drank over the next two hours. The balance in this wine is exceptional. Dark fruits blend seemlessly with some nice earthy tannins. Stood up to some nice 2" thick porterhouse steaks that were grilled over oak coals with hickory chips and finished with white truffle oil.

This wine, after a two hour decant, has really emerged as an amazing wine. The dark and red fruits danced on the tongue with some awesome soft tannins.

Restaurant purchase. Decant for about a half hour, then drank over the next hour. Great wine but still young. Wish we could have decanted longer, but still very enjoyable and should get even better with more aging.

Decanted 2 hours and poured back in bottle and drank over an hour at dinner. This wine is beautiful. Racy, Beautiful mouthfeel with a super long finish. Everything was in the right place this night. As big and luscious as it was it did not go over the top. Had alongside a 2008 Peter Michael Les Pavots and Keever 2009. This was the WOTN.

Night of Cabs and Pinots with the Shacks (Home of the Slywka's): Tasted Blind. Nose had violets, cassis, raspberry and cherry. More traditional Napa Valley then the first wine, but not your big over the top nose. This was still quite tight even with a 3 hour decant and served a little too cool but somehow still showed great. Lot of dark fruit on the palate with blackberry, currant and iron. Ended with a nice 35 second finish. I guess the Melka and I was right. Impressive wine.

Still early on for this terrific label. If drinking now, Be fair and give it a few hours in the Decanter. Or better yet, let it rest for another year or 2. Those who do will be greatly rewarded.

Black raspberry jam, cocoa, blueberry and coffee bean scents create the nose. Forward, soft and round in style, the wine ends with a sweet, olive and black cherry finish. I like the style and character of this wine and the label.

BIG and YOUNG. Even Phillipe's round style doesn't mask the fact that this is a giant wine with reserve tannins. The fruit is present and there is lots of it. Beautiful and full-bodied, yet perfectly in balance. Lots of berry and cassis and a finish that just does not stop. This one should be put down for two to three years at least to ease the tannin or decanted for two hours.

Still has many years left and in a great drinking window now. Recommend at least a one hour decant before the first sip.

Perhaps I should have decanted. The downside to the Coravin and only having one glass. Lesson learned - drink the whole bottle.
