  • A trip to the Indian Sea, Sri Lanka; 1/16/2019-2/4/2019 (Emirates lounge Hamburg, Emirates Business Class, Beruwala sea side, Sri Lanka): BYO to the indian sea:
a perfect Riesling bottle, last night on the beach, yellow peach, harmonic, still young appearance, dense and energetic, a mature Riesling reference! ****(+?)

  • This time the MAGNUS is from MAGNUM: a top notch Riesling bottle, that stunning fresh and young, lets confirm this one even as zesty, mineralic driven, showing as a reference the dry Nahe style which is my favourite dry one, but......, this is not only my opinion on this bottle, the rest of our large crowd today enjoyed in silence, just have to look in their enlightend faces......, like being at a church service, moderate bodied on the midpalate, stony delicious grapefruit, ending long saline with a mouthwatering acidity, if you like this style enjoy from now on and over the next decade! For me this Schneider Hermannshöhle Magnum is superior to the until now tasted Dönnhoff 2010 samples! ****(*), 94-96+?

  • First sip totally disapointment !!!!! But then .... with time ... after 3 h of decanting it became a real nice mature riesling. Nice balance with a medium finish . Fruit driven but also minerals showing up.I dont think this will improve . Needs to be drunk in the next 2-3 years

  • My next bottle of this fine Riesling stuff, drank late at night with a lot of companions at the winebar of our football stadium after the loss of our team which put up no resistance.........., so this one was to light up our mood: very precise nose, mineralic, green apples, limy, on the palate still that young, very fresh, mineralic appearance, some peaches, very intense stone licking with a fantastic structure, ending really bonedry a little salty, stunning long+ aftertaste, for the next decade, for me the best MAGNUS of all tasted vintages so far, still one of these stunning Riesling- bargains, today sold for 16€ a bottle, **(**), 91- 93+?

  • Of Rainstorms and Rieslings: Ripe with sleek stone. on opening the mid and finish were hiding but with time it opened up a lot more. mid has lots of citrus layers with a touch of pineapple. dry medium long finish. i would come back in a few years (i have one squirreled away)

  • Obviously dry but with enough fruit that it works for me. Probably not a rebuy, but I'm still trying to figure out dry Riesling

  • JB at Fernando's House: Needs time. When we came back to it in 3-4 hours it really opened up a lot - showing more fruit and zing. i was beyond taking notes by that point though. good fruit. Big wine - has amazing slate/stone notes. Ripe orchard fruit in the mid. totally dry finish. My next one will have to wait a few years.

  • Nose > Pear-skin, tart-apricot & crushed rock. Big pungent citrus-pith, quince & yellow peach. Rich.
Palate > Creamy, fat, rich nectarine, tart nectarine, apricot & elegantly earthy pear skin.
Drinks decently dry, with good acidity, but very, very rich.
This was one of the 1st 2010 German Rieslings that surprised me how quickly it began to develop, & show age. Not sure what the R.S. is on this Trocken, but many of these '10's have an abundance of sugar & botrytis that was (at least partially) hidden in their 1st year or 2 out of the gate by almost unprecedented levels of acidity.

  • the "White Album" - Rieslings that Rocked the Night: Hermannshohle is an amazing vineyard. and it shows in this wine. Floral nose, veering toward roses and sweet peaches. mid full of ripe pears mixing with tart (green) peach and lots of minerality/ slate. grapefruit tones pitch in. Ripe and broad wine that has a good deeply tart finish. This had a hard time in tonight's lineup but is obviously a very good wine. glad to have a few.

  • No holds barred Rielsing Tasting (The Counts Manor): The nose was beautiful as it pulled you in with ripe pear and rich lemon curd, quince, green grass, spiced pineapple and hints of mineral-slate. It was broad and rich on the palate with stone fruits and minerals, yet a bit one dimensional. Yet on the finish this retrieved its momentum with a lasting impression of peach and lemon, which seemed to saturate all the senses.

  • NOSE > Big, very creamy/flowery/spicy nectarine, lemon/lime-oil, tart-apricot skin & red-cherry.
    Stony/steely, egg-custard, pink-grapefruit, fruit-cocktail, lavender, rosa-ragusa, bosc-pear skin, & anise.
    A Cote de Blanc/Mesnil stony-limestone & white-flower undertone grows w/air.
This is a Grand Cru nose. Hugely complex, pungent & fresh.
    PALATE > Big, elegant & both round & steely/stony. White-nectarine, lime-flesh & tart-apricot.
    Mineralized crushed-rock/limestone, lime-zest, cherry-stone, blood-orange, & earthy pink-grapefruit.
    Very light touch of skin-contact.
Med+ intensity. Great balance & acidity. Excellent length.
Great combo of sappiness, creaminess & steely/stoniness.
    Finish & aftertaste is lime-flesh, lime-zest, cherry-stone & lemon-oil. Really carries its 13% ABV well. Very impressive.

  • Smells fresh and delicious, tropical aromas including club soda, ripe limes and ripe fuji apples. Medium weight palate with wonderful, bright flavors of pineapple, melon, white pears and honey as the wine decends into a long, ripe lemon finish. Bone dry despite these flavors. Fantasticly balanced intensity, freshness and acidity on this wine.

  • stunning vibrating acidity paired with this outstanding mineralic flavours of the Hermannshöhle, a very good year for this type of a GG- like Nahe producer, I do like "cold" vintages at the Nahe as 08, 10 and hopefully 12 better than more fructiferous years like 07, 09 or 11. a perfect bottle, steely mineralic stonefruit, maybe a little salty, with air in a big glass some more spices, still very young, long+ finish.....and let me say it again, this producer is a true bargain, still 14.-euros a bottle, 91- 94?

  • drunk at the fine restaurant Hermannshöhle, Niederhausen: sold out at the Weingut so we had to eat a little........, awesome nose, passion fruit, citrus, mineralic, vibrating acidity, still bites, salty, stone licking, exotic fruits, fullbodied, long plus finish, still so young, long life ahead..... great value, a GG- like Riesling from one of the best vineyards of the Nahe.......14.-euros, and the owner of the restaurant sold us a case for only a little more money.... and for me he still had two MAGNUMS! 90- 92?

  • drunk this wine first on one of our tours to our favorite Riesling wineregion the Nahe in a fine restaurant at Niederhausen named: Hermannshöhle;-).... because this Weingut is not a member of the VDP they could not lable it as a GG, but....especially this 2010 MAGNUS is best quality, like a GG! in the nose flavor of spontanous fermentation and very mineralic, on the palate strong minerality compared with lots of stonefruit, but in spite of this strong minerality this 2010 Riesling is very very pleasant to the taste, drunk this today combined with a fine filet of salmon......amazing elegance and Rieslingpower, very long aftertaste, will improve by cellaring 90- 92+? .....and this wine still is a bargain......14€ a bottle!

  • This is a heck of a good riesling trocken for the price, and very much Naha and Hermannshohle... Had I known it was this good, I'd have easily grabbed the case. Not Donnhoff, but at the price point who is going to quibble. Quite a lot going on

  • Smells of peaches, baked apple and lemons, acidity able to be sensed through the nose. Wonderful intensity, great complexity as this shows an entire bouquet of fruit on the palate, the peaches are less than the nose, the apples are fresh and juicy, Asian pears show, along with star fruit, and even a bit of green melon. There is a lot of going on. Loads of acidity, it's strong and lasts a long time on the palate, turning the finish just a touch tart, knocking out the previous balance. Besides that, this is really good. Should age beautifully, going to sit on my remaining bottles as long as possible.

  • Lovely dry Riesling. Floral and stone notes. Dry extract of apricot. Not quite ithe same class as a GG, but at half the price or less, who cares?
