A rich & vivacious package yet balance with licorice, 'toffee-smoky' sweetness on aroma. A friend claim it came with oaky/woody with hints of chocolate. Good body with mid-hard tannin. Liking the welcoming complexity. 2009 at its peak plateaus has an warmer tone of red.

Flight 2, USA, Wine 6 (blind): The wine was dark ruby in colour and offered an expressive nose of ripe, jammy fruit, dark berries, dark cherry, damson and lots of spices. On the palate the round, full-bodied wine showed dark berries, damson, spices and a hint of tea, plus blood orange on the finish, paired with medium-plus acidity, medium-level tannin and very good length. Solid.

- Ruby color. It's balanced with a medium/full body. Round texture with a medium finish - Big mouth-filling wine, high alcohol is well balanced. Not complex, but greatly enjoyable for quaffing.

Clear, pale ruby colour with slightly inky legs. Clean, medium intensity developing nose, aromas of blackberries, oak, black pepper and clove. Off-dry, medium- acidity, medium tannins, medium alcohol, medium+ body, medium intensity flavours of vanilla, toast, black cherries, clove and black pepper. Medium+ finish. Good quality. Can drink now, but has potential for further ageing.

Pleasant nose of mulberry/blackberry with hint of soil or mushroom. Tight tannins & refreshing acidity and sweetish balanced finish. No complexity - but a good quaff.

Intriguing nose of mouth-watering, spicy red fruit. Initial palate was super tart, so ran it through a Vinturi. It opened up into a brambly mix of strawberry, plum, charcoal, graphite, sour cherry candy, black pepper and cassis. There was a dusty quality to the flavor. The tartness almost triggered heartburn, but other than that, it was easy-drinking and had good mouthfeel. I would definitely drink this if offered at a party, but wouldn't buy it again.

If you are looking for a delicious wine to please a crowd at your next summer BBQ the 2009 Ravenswood Zinfandel Old Vine Lodi would be an excellent choice. It has notes of sweet currant, vanilla, spices and toasted oak. Full-bodied with a soft and round texture that makes it easy to drink. This would pair up well with any type of grilled beef. The final blend is composed of 77% Zinfandel, 23% Petite Sirah. (Drink 2012-2015) - May, 2012. (JD)

Very nice Zin, very typical notes with a bit of heat but delicious nonetheless - Dark, full bodied with a nose of blackfruit, bramble, plum, cherry, spice, heat and vanilla, good structure and decent integration with a touch of heat, off dry on the palate with good length, very tasty! (89 Points).

Popped and poured, drank this wine side by side with the 2009 Paso Creek Zin. Nice dark fruit flavors with just a touch more acid than the Paso Creek. Still for under $15 this is a decent wine.

Very tasty Zinfandel, as we've come to expect from Ravenswood. This bottle is just dripping with flavors of raspberries and cream. Went very well with crispy chicken, spinach, beets, and quinoa, and then went very well on its own the rest of the evening.

You don't get much choice when it comes to Zin in the UK, Ravenswood being the main brand that you see. It seems to be reliably decent though. This Old Vine zin needed a bit of time to open up, but was soon expressing creamy cedar and blackberry notes. This was a big on the fruit, juicy and mouthwatering leading to an almost blackberry ice-cream silkiness and a medium dry, nutty finish. Little of the raisin finish that I expected. Would make a good BBQ wine.

This is much better at a restaurant when I pay $10 a glass instead of $12 for the bottle at retail for some reason.

Enjoyable, but not especially complex. Jammy with fresh blueberry and plum, without enough of that brambly taste I usually enjoy in zins.

The good: $10 at Costco. The bad: that is too much. This is very thin. Like tasted literally watered down. Little fruit. Cheap wood. Bitter. Blah
