Drank with a sublime and memorable La Tache 2010, tasted blind still, this is even better. The nose is one of the most memorable I have had the pleasure of smelling, complex, long, intense. The palate is on the same register, the balance between contained power, finesse and intensity of flavors and texture is simply phenomenal. La Tache drunk after a Musigny and 2 other wines from the DRC was memorable and unique, here we go up again to another level, difficult to imagine.

  • Regal, ultra lifted, floral aromatics. Incredible length, delineation and harmony. There’s a serenity and stillness to this wine, such that the table went completely silent. Group identified clearly! (260/4636)

  • Floral, complex aromatics, quite lifted. Fairly austere on palate currently. Drinking remaining third of bottle at home, still felt a bit shut. I’d give this 5 years to work through an awkward phase. (4011/4636)

  • Dinner at Auberge du Pot d'Etain (L'Isle sur Serein - France): Decanted for an hour before serving. Magic! Wild red berries come through, both fresh and macerated with great intensity and sweet baking spice aromas. This was so tough to taste simply because the aromas were so fully engrossing. Red and black berry flavors with consistent spice, great concentration and near-perfect persistence from start-to-finish. So young, and yet near perfect overall.

98.5 points, if Cellar Tracker permitted.

  • SLDS Reunion Tasting (Bentley, Sydney, Australia): More cloudy coloured compared to the 2009 Romanée-Conti. Definitely more subtlety here but it is still surely alluring - there is rhubarb, violets, redcurrant and musk. The floral notes show themselves more with time in the glass, but the nose remains coiled and as the night draws towards its close the wine tightens up even more. The palate is seriously good, the fruit is ethereal, with acidity that lifts the fruit and gives it even more depth. This wine is one for contemplation and patience, and a fascination contrast to the 2009 by its side.

Pour reprendre les mots d’Allen Meadows: « In short, young burgundy just doesn't get any better than this. » 99-100

  • 2010 DRC Tasting: Moving on to the Romanee Conti, the table talk was that it would be more reserved than the prior wines and that turned out to be correct. The color was lighter and cloudier than the La Tache. The nose was more reserved but exhibited the same level of complexity if not more floral and spice notes in a very subtle way. Initially quite closed in the mouth, but after about 45min in the glass it revealed more and more fruit, but was definitely holding back. My last sip was the best with an incredibly long finish emphasizing spice, stems and floral notes. Excellent grip and wonderfully fine tannin. The La Tache was more showy for sure, but the supreme elegance of this wine was clear.

  • Lalou Bize-Leroy has said somwhere that it took her 20 years to understand Romanée-Conti. It took me no more than 2 sek. Magic is happening to me as I am served two wines in Riedels Burgundy Sommelier glass blind. Two amazing wines it turns out. Both glasses scream of supreme quality. I am told that one is 2010 La Romanée, and in what company is 2010 La Romanée the lesser wine? Only when compared with Romanée-Conti 2010! Hard to rate of course it's more or less otherworldly, but it's either a perfect wine or as close as can be and no matter how great La Romanée is, Romanée-Conti is superior.

  • 2010 DRC Tasting: Another wow nose, very spicy but dustier and then sweeter than the LT. Intense flavors wrapped in a lovely middleweight texture that is slightly more brooding, concentrated and deeper than the LT. Very tight with wonderful fine grained tannins and flavor intensity. The RC displays more of everything but all in balance.

  • This wine is notably lighter in color versus the La Tache, the Richebourg, the RSV or the Echezeaux - yet one more lesson that depth of color is not relevant when evaluating red Burgundy (are you listening Mr. Parker?!? I doubt it). The nose is broad, round and complete and astoundingly intense. On the palate there is the classic Asian spice for sure, but there is more than that and it is a taste not found in any of the other wines in the lineup. Like many of the other 2010 DRCs, this has the bitterness or greenness on the finish that highlights the concentration of flavor. What is interesting is how long it takes to appreciate this taste and understand its full brilliance. Seriously not for those who do not understand how Burgundy works, because they will be angry at the cost and not appreciate the wine for what it is.

  • Barrel. Slight reduction on the nose, but opened up and blew off quickly yielding complex aromas of flowers, mineral, earth, red and dark fruits..Soft..a true 'iron fist in a velvet glove' type of wine. Long, long. A wow wine. Probably will rate higher with some age.
