Grouse with friends: Blind. Få notater her. En viss brun strek som står i motsetning til friskhet og energi. Tankene gikk til Selosse. Fremsto dermed som litt uharmonisk, kanskje ikke optimal flaske. Men, grunnstrukturen med intensitet og lengde er på plass.

C+K's housewarming party (Chicago, IL): This bottle hasn't held up anywhere as nicely as my last experience with it. It feels old and tired, with some nutty oxidative notes and really missing freshness. It has some complexity and weight still, but the browning tones really don't do it for me.

Light yellow. Very expressive, pure and highly concentrated nose with green Apples and lemon, brioche and minerality. Salty notes and some toffee. Very elegant and quite linear. Pleasant mousse, pure and very focused moutfeel. Mature Apples and slightly roasted nuts. Very long and vibrant. A fantastic wine. Still very much alive and I ll leave the last bottles a few years in the cellar.

Light gold color. Drank 2 glasses over an hour. This was a one off bottle I picked up on a bit of a whim. Well, it really turned out to be quite good. This has a brisk nose, fresh witb minerality and sea shell notes, toasted, white fruits. The palate carries through on the theme of being brisk, ocean air minerality that really dances across the tongue, excellent depth with bright citrus fruits and strong mineral accents of chalk and tart apple skin and citrus notes. This finishes with lip smacking freshness. Probably need to be watching for this in the future. A very good extra brut.

Q3 - 2017 Tasting - Champagne & Caviar - OH MY!! (New York, NY): Wine 15/17 tasted blind - seems like a grower champagne to me with a distinctive profile of high acidity and some caramelized honey notes - very interesting and popular with the group with 8 pennies voted.

Champagne & Caviar: a lesson in decadence (The Apt): Wine #15: Another one of my favorites from the tasting. Also a great pairing with the crap dip. This was more apple in nature than anything else which I really like. Very enjoyable. (8 pennies)

EWG 10 Years On Tasting at Conrad's: A bit darker in character and earthier than the '05 Taittinger Comtes BdB, with a little more oxidative notes, brown sugar, tea, and less carbonation than the Comtes. Good high acidity in the back end. Grown on clay soil in Avize, aged only in used barrel, full malo--this explains a lot. I found it a bit difficult to taste the Champagnes out of red Burg glasses though. I am a fan of drinking bubbles out of white Burg glasses, but I think the big glasses did not focus the delicate aromas enough, and the wide rim made the entry too diffuse. Nice bottlefor sure, but not truly exciting. EWG 10 years on tasting.

Lovely, racy stuff. Full, crisp nose has apples, melon, citrus and wet rocks. Palate is laser-beam focused with lighter body and intense cut. Terrific. Like this in its relative youth.

Sunday Dinner at Formento's (Chicago, IL): This is quintessential blanc des blancs with a clear mineral and citrus nose. There's a slight richness as well, but it's really the racier elements that come to the forefront. Intense, with great minerality on the finish. This is definitely a leaner champagne -- delicious now, but a few years should loosen things up a bit.

Again, this was the 04 not the 05. Really brilliant wine from Agrapart. Maturing nicely with notes of baked apples and bread, but wonderfully broad and structured yet with a fine line and great length. Lots to come with this wine, but lovely now

Fine and flinty with some mint, white peach and citrus fruit. There's a whiff of brioche and a little toast. It is relatively compact in the mouth with flavours that are direct and citrusy and super fine bead. It finishes with good cut and is quite dry.

A simply brilliant wine, the 2005 Avizoise is a powerhouse, yet utterly balanced and shockingly elegant. The palate is full of rich baked apple, walnuts, toast, abundant minerals and soft lemon zest. The complexity coming from the freshness and power in combination is just thrilling. The palate is integrated and quite adorable with a superior length on the finish accompanied by a perfect acidity. The mousse is vivid but not overly expressive and certainly matches the other components of this effort. A lovely wine which deserves all the merit it can get.

A brilliant and absolutely marvelous Champagne, the 2005 L'Avizoise drinks perfectly tonight. The nose is perfectly integrated with all the classy components in place like sweet brioche, creamy sun warm red apples, toast and very elegant but still deep minerals. The palate is full-bodied and adds to the complexity with a vivid but elegant and creamy mousse. This effort certainly plays on the elegant side, but it does so without being embarrassed for its qualities. A flat out great bottle of wine!

Degorgert september 2011. Moden frukt, lime, noe tropisk, autolyse, leire, hint av vaniljesukker. Veldig lekker nese, både rik og elegant samtidig. Fyldig, men fokusert. Frisk, med utmerket konsentrasjon og lengde. En vin med kontraster; bredskuldret og rik, men samtidig fokusert og med nerve. Riktig lekker. Ikke noe hast. 93p.

The Avizoise was wonderful blanc de blanc, exceptionally clean and precise with tons of chalk, minerals and icing sugar dusted lemons. (note: This was actually a 2004)

Light in color. Steady stream of bubbles. Med+ intensity.Yellow apples, chalkyness, hints of red berries, lemon peel and a sense of minerality. Very nice mousse, small fine bubbles. elegant, a little bit "fat". Slightly developed and a med+ length in the finish.
