a once great wine that is on a rapid decline. airing for a few hours did no favors and certainly did not revive it. Tasting more like a rich napa wine with no energy/mineral/salted quality on the palate

Popped-and-poured, and enjoyed during a virtual tasting with Vero and Laurent Drouhin, plus over an additional 5 hours. Bottle in perfect condition, with a cork only begrudgingly extracted. Darker color than I'd prefer, but all fear disappeared once I smelled the wine. Floral start with opulent orchard fruit showing both sweet and savory spice. Identical flavors with unctuous textures and impressive density. Even better than a great bottle directly from Drouhin enjoyed at dinner in Beaune in 2014.

Tremendously good. A reminder of what mature white burgundy should be about but too often isn't. Drinking perfectly but this has the quality to continue to drink well for at least 5 years

Med yellow. Lemon, lime, hazelnut, anise but not strongly fragrant. Better in the mouth, brown butter, lemon peel, toasted nuts and a little VA. Silky feel. This is very good but perhaps past its best.

Brilliant gold and slightly viscous - the surface ripples when the glass is swirled. Sulphur candle then lemon and lemon blossom, anise, biscuit. Medium concentration of honey, lemon candy and a zip of lemon zest. Medium length, fresh and airy. I'm infatuated with this leggy, blond beauty!

Bright, transparent yellow. Smells floral and buttery. Some fatness still to the palate, slightly oaky with hints of vanilla and popcorn. Backbone of acidity here and the wine tightens on the back end. Becomes leaner with air with refreshing green apple and slate. Young still, but very good, and starting to drink well. Glad to have more. If it stays sound is poised to be very nice in a few.

A Few Days in Paris; 6/10/2014-6/14/2014 (Various Locations, Paris): Half bottle. Medium yellow. Ripe, almost tropical nose. No sign of oxidation. Lush and obviously oaky with a strong vanilla flavor but still delightful citrus fruit. The wood does give some astringency at the end, keeping the finish from being as long as it might. Still, a good showing from a small bottle at 10 years of age.

Burgundy Producer Dinner (Bistro de l'Hotel - Beaune): Direct from the Drouhin cellars a few blocks away, this was more fresh and charming vs another bottle from my cellar a few weeks ago. Perfect balance of freshness, energy and hints of maturation. Great now.

Medium yellow/gold. Lemon, lanolin, anise. Medium body almost rich. Medium concentration lemon, lemon curd. Long finish ending with browned butter. Excellent and remarkable for the vintage.

I really enjoyed this wine in it's youth and given the intensity and vigor, I expected it to continue to develop well but it has simply lost its finish and is now flabby and lacks the mineral complexity it once possessed. Based on the tropical and buttery smells, I would say this is on its way to Premox land. Not sure I understand how white Burg producers will stay in business in the future. I love the stuff but with rare exception, don't buy it anymore.

One of the best white burgundies I have had in ages. Rich, ripe, maybe a tad fat, but wonderful balance of fruit, oak and acidity makes it an absolute pleasure to drink now... Lovely

Pretty nose of limestone and gunflint. On the palate, there are flavors of lime and gunflint with decent acidity and a round, creamy mouthfeel. The intensity of the wine has diminished since my last tasting and unfortunately that hasn't translated into increased complexity as the finish just goes flat. A really strange showing for a wine I usually love and feel ages well. Will try another bottle soon.

Another Saturday at Knightsbridge - mostly blind (Northbrook, IL): Popped and poured. Started with very nice mint aroma with big orchard fruit on both nose and palate. Very good acidity and minerality. Starting to show early hints of maturity, but still fresh for a 2004. In its peak drinking window.

Dinner at a Venerable Restaurant (Boston): Medium yellow. Wonderful mineral quality and brisk acidity supporting crystallized orange fruit and a whiff of hazelnut. Someone said Corton Charlemagne; for me, it evoked Meursault. Regardless, this was lively and exciting.

Pretty dark colour but very fresh nose. As others have noted, no lime but nice lemon cake flavours. Rich but fresh with a juicy peach note. A very long and pleasant finish. Although the freshness and acidity in this rather full bodied wine is all there, it is perhaps lacking the finesse and complexity to be truly magnificent. Drink now or in the next ten years. Way too expensive.

Rich yet elegant, no traces of the slightly coarse earthiness that white Beaune sometimes exhibits; wonderful style and definition, very pire fruit, becomes creamier and more honeyed in the glass, great length. Memorable wine.
