Full yellow. Yellow peach and a bit of almond on the nose. Fairly ripe and sweet for a Kabinett. Stone fruit, vanilla bean, spice, and soil with firm acidity and a late tropical fruit note. Very good.
Even more delicious and focused the second night

Deep gold. Rock n roll. See last note with vanilla bean and a little nutmeg, pink grapefruit and nectarine. Mount Wratchet is picking up star fruit. I love this wine. More on the way.

Somewhat restrained nose leads into a WOW "this wine has some tremendous cut" palate. Unlike a lot of 2010 Kabs, this actually drinks like a kab... a really precise, focused and laser-like example. Clean, crisp fruit lasts for a long time on the finish and is highlighted by great salinity.

Although I am a bit shocked that I scored this so highly, this is an incredibly elegant wine. This is not a wine that screams for your attention. It is subtle, beautiful and persistent. Rich for a Kabinett from the Saar, but certainly closer to a Kabinett than most tens, the nose was very closed on opening. After 10 minutes and a mild warm up it was full of rocks, salt and peaches and there was something there like candied grapefruit. On the palate it was medium, subtle and so salty. At first I was a bit bummed this wasnt more expressive but then it sat, and sat and the finish went on forever and I wanted more. It reminds me very much of Hirtzberger's 8's or the occasional great bottle of Claret from the 70's (Palmer '79 comes to mind, as does '78 Beychevelle and '70 Mission). Wines that don't demand attention but you beg for their's. This is never going to stand out at a tasting, it isnt going to get big scores but I'd buy as much as I can afford even though it is one of the most expensive bottles of Kabinett to make it to these shores. Not wicked temptress but life partner.

Nose of rose petals, honey and minerals. Fairly pronounced mineral notes on the palate with honeyed Golden Delicious apple flavors. A touch of bitterness on the finish which is not unpleasant.

Theise/Skurnik DI tasting. Spatlese-like in its richness and sweetness, luscious herb-tinged pear and apple fruit but comes across surprisingly soft and a bit dull. Disappointing after the last couple of vintages.

I think this may have been cooked, but oh well. PnP. Really advanced dark golden color. Muted aromatics.

ultra ripe for a Kab but with bright acidity cutting through. Petrol, vaseline, rubber nose. So concentrated, bright, and fresh. Wow.

Lightning energy, full of verve but with enough flesh to hold onto. Big for kabinett. Amazing.

A somewhat atypical Riesling with no detectible residual sugar. It's a clean-cut Riesling that you could serve to discerning guests.
