Still rather primary in flavor profile though texturally this is coming together with fruit that is more round than rustic. A few more years and the nuances should emerge and blossom.

I had this wine 5 years ago and raved about it then. It’s just as good, maybe even better today. Has that quintessential burgundy ability to be light on its feet but also having great and intense, depth of fruit.

13.5% alcohol. The cork breaks up 3/4 of the way at extraction, but the rest is easily rescued. Light colour early on, both a bit more brown by the end of the meal. Evolved nose of undergrowth mixed with red berries; a good bit of lift at the back end. The mouth is both harmonious and lively, more so than what the nose would suggest. Very good mouthfeel. A superb match for a superb duck. Based on the difference of perception between the start and the end of the meal, I would say that this wine is at peak; nothing to be gained by waiting any longer. A notch below the previous bottle, but still a classy Nuits.

{bought on release, perfect fill, sound cork} [2 glasses sampled using argon system with JL] - Flat out delicious, tannins resolved and an excellent wine. All of a piece from nose to palate to finish. Suspect it is at peak but should hold here for some time.

Double blind. Maturing but still fresh earthy red cherry nose that is layered with herb and spice. Palate is mature and fully integrated with fruit that is ripe but still juicy. Not particularly complex or distinctive but enjoyable. I was guessing 1er MSD.

Double Blind Virtual tasting (Chicagoland IL): Double blind, clearly Burgundy with some age. Mature red cherry with spice made me think Vosne 1er Cru. Elegant and nicely balanced. Bottle had been opened and divided into 6 pours 8 hours earlier, which might have helped. Or hurt.

13.5% alcohol. Good dense cork with no wine penetration, precious little inscription beyond the vintage. Pretty deep colour for pinot, with some fading and the onset of bricking at the edge of the rim. Rich complex evolved nose, including some undergrowth. The mouth is equally remarkable, with a sweet quality to it (not in the sense of sugar); immensely seductive but with good grip too thanks to excellent balancing acidity. Plenty of depth. The best Burgundy that I have had in ages, well up to Grand Cru level. Perfect for drinking now.

Brief note.. Jammy overtones, but not all the way jammy. A lot of dark primary fruit, red cherry and blue plum. Those who suggest Chevillon picked late in 2002 seem correct. Lots of soil. Nice concentration. Good acidity. A subtle amount of spice on the finish. 92-93, just feels too primary right now.

A bit of reduction on the open, that blew off in 20 minutes. Nose: wood, vanilla, cherry, chocolate, soil Palate: smokey and ripe black cherry, black plum, wood spice.. subtle dark rose. No green here. Structure: very smooth, ripe tannin without any heat/cinnamon on the slightly drying finish. Finish is medium length, not particularly short, but not long or memorable.
Very open for business. A crowd pleaser. But a bit simple. Reminded me of a early 2000s resolved vintage modern barolo with the smoke, wood, vanilla, really ripe fruit - but less power here. Or as burgundy, this was a riper, denser fruit of the purple-to-black spectrum that needs much time to pick up more interest (5+ years.
Given how quaffable this wine is, am surprised at the low 91pt rating. A 92-93 for me.

Dark fruit, earth, and coffee. Round texture, dense fruit, a bit of oak on the finish. Not particularly 2002 in character. There's potential here but significant primary fruit hides any nuance. Drink starting 2022. (This was entirely a different wine on first pop, angular and weirdly earthy, so do give it time & air if drinking now.)

Still quite young and primary, but forward, lush and providing pleasure. Shows some depth of flavor with some earth and leather. Good structure but the big fruit conceals it making for a charming, enjoyable drink.

HDH auction at Spiaggia; 5/17/2018-5/19/2018 (Chicago, IL): Just a moderate amount of stink on the nose here, but the fruit is quite beautiful underneath the dirt. The palate is much better than the nose, with some good earthy tones. The fruit's sweet and ripe, a touch black, and quite prominent. The structure needs time to develop; I think given the generous fruit here, that won't be a problem.

Wines Tasted at HDH Auction (Spiaggia - Chicago IL): Small glass, brief note. So much black fruit here, just still so backward. Very good length, with a finish that starts to hint at finesse and charm. 90+ point potential, 2022 forward, at earliest.

If you want to see what a quintessential NSG 1er burg with 15 years of maturity is like, you could do a lot worse than try one of these Chevillon wines. The nose just leapt out of the glass with earth , iron, spicy mature dark red fruit notes. Palate had great power and intensity within a medium bodied frame. Lovely length and fine tannins with just a smidge of NSG rusticity. One of the best drinking Chevillon' I have had. Absolutely killed a 1999 Fourrier champeaux had at the same time

light ruby colour. Nose offers up mature Burgundian characteristics,in particular barnyard bretty nuances, which do not detract from my enjoyment but others may consider a fault. To me adds a little added complexity. Fruit starting to fade but still elegant ( a little bretty) wine and I do like maturing cowshed flavours. Nice acidity, very drinkable. Probably a drink now NSG. Love the Vigneron.

This showed very young and closed. Full purple robe in the glass and with a tight, yet dense nose. It showed good amounts of density and extract, although it is a little green and astringent at the moment. I expect this to be cracking in a few years.

The aromas conjured up all sorts of purple fruit and flowers, and the oak seemed thoroughly tamed. Ample fruit on the palate, too, without excesses that have disappointed me in surrounding vintages ('00, '01, '03). Very appealing while retaining a bit of the rustic about it.

This wine begins with dark cherry, stone and earth notes on the bouquet. It aromatics provide a mix of mature and youthful notes that are detailed and nuanced. The color is a medium to dark ruby that is correct for the wines age. The medium bodied palate shows firmness and balance with enough youthful fruit to offset the tannins. This has aged nicely and should continue to drink well for many years.

Nice medium red color with orange at the edges. Medium body. The wine has a soft, silky texture, notes of cream and strawberries and cherries, with a dash of peppery spice to flesh out the complexity. Lively acidity; a gentle touch of sweetness; the mostly smoothed-out tannins still provide a little bite and the promise of some future. It goes down really quickly, which is almost a shame because you could sit around for an hour just sniffing it. Simply lovely.

had some friends over for a very impromptu dinner: salmon on the grill kind of evening, so this got put into service with just a quick decant. Not much in terms of sediment. Some nice dark fruit and good underlying structure here. nose a bit tight and sort of in between primary & secondary at this stage. Good tension and backbone and the flavor quite pleasant. (dark fruit medium) Kept improving in the glass and i was hoping to give it a little more time but it got all drunk up -oh well that's a good sign.

Found this wine on the clunky side compared to the Cailles, Vaucrains, and Roncieres. Quite pronounced iron makes the wine slightly hard; fruit is less ripe. Seems to be going through a less attractive phase. To try again in 2-3 years.

High-pitched red and black raspberry-type fruits and mild spice. Great purity. Medium-bodied, and builds on the palate to a fine, firm core of structure that's not overly intrusive even at this young stage. Pretty wine, with just enough ripeness and body. Really enjoyable.

The nose is definately cote de Nuits, with black berry fruit, spices and a touch of vinegar
Quite full bodied, almost like a grand cru, but not very refined, very good length.
Nice bottle, probably a bit past its peak, do no expect it will gain from further storage.
