  • This was an average to slightly better than average bottle of village NSG. Would have thought this would still show a bit fresher given vintage, producer and terroir however it did feel mildly past-peak. No real tannins and starting to lose structure. Drink now.

  • Pale, ruby appearance. Medium+ nose of raspberry, red cherry, charred wood, kirsch, fruit development with dried fruits, iron, earth. Medium - body, medium tannin with good grip, medium+ tannin, slightly medicinal character, medium finish. Pure and good quality.

  • Lots of strawberry and thinnish palate feel, but more muted than I expected. Overall a decent everyday burgundy but not as much fruit as some of the Oregon pilots I've had lately

  • A good village level wine, but didn't blow me away. This is solid with red fruits, classic gamy hints, and iron. The palate is a bit thin and lacking some depth, but is still good. In my opinion this is not much better than the straight Bourgogne which is a better value.

  • From a 375ml. Nice color. Dusty nose, but that faded with time. Notes of strawberry on the nose and on the palate. Refined flavors, but the finish turns a bit sour with about an hour of time. Not great, but enjoyable especially for the first hour.

  • So much reductive funk, I had to employ the penny trick, which worked perfectly. Once the sulphuric rubbery stank dissipated, a beautiful NSG emerged. Very gamy and wild but seductive and loaded with minerals and warm soil aromas. You could lay this humble village wine down for many years, but if you open now, make sure to give it several hours in the decanter before drinking (or have plenty of clean pennies on hand).

  • More accessible than the '09's which have closed up now. Primary red and dark berry fruit with sauvage and slightly rustic flavors. Very complex for a village wine. Structured, fleshy and tannic. The aromas kept building and the palate got more fleshy over a few hours of drinking. Don't hesitate to crack one of these now.

  • Strongly reductive funk (of the burnt rubber variety previously described) that air (over two days) only mostly amended. However, this wine really shines on the palate, with black cherry, licorice, and wild gamey flavors and a bonafide rocky feel. While the obvious reduction was a bit of a downer, the wine still punched way above its weight and remains a superb value from an excellent and otherwise very expensive vintage.

Attendre 2018.

  • Bright medium red. There are some black fruits and licorice on the nose and a very strong note that I was having trouble identifying but after reading Robert Pavlovich's note, I think "burnt rubber" is a very good descriptor. On the palate, the wine has great presence. Stoney black cherries with a firmly tannic finish. Knowing what the wine is, I think I can identify some of the plummy richness I associate with Nuit St George but there is an intense precision to this wine that must come from the great winemaker.

  • Decent lunch wine in Gevrey. Some reduction, but beautiful fruit underneath. At Chez Guy in Gevrey. 88+

  • After a five hour slow ox in a cold cellar, the nose was slightly open with aromas of red plum and burnt rubber. The palate was not as giving...the acid clearly out-muscled the fruit, and found it slightly earthy and overall unyielding. The tannins were fine grained, leading to a serious though graceful enough finish. Would recommend giving this a lot of air if drinking today, or better yet, just let it sleep.

  • This has to be one of the most impressive village Nuits I've ever had, and is up there with any star village wine you care to mention, as it's just dripping with Nuits character - tons of heavyweight muscle and a clear earthy signature combining stoniness and maybe a little animal funk. This is really big in scale, no dainty feminine elegance here, one of those rare village wines that I would seriously love to cellar since it seems to have all the ingredients for a long life despite its early expressiveness; the level of stuffing almost seems a throwback. I was a little surprised, though, to see some overt oakiness surface after it had been opened about two hours, not the usual M.O. chez Gouges but there is so much material here it's easy to imagine it getting absorbed.

  • Wet earth, herb, violet, blueberry, strawberry. Robust acidity and mineral.
