Decanted for over one hour. Beautiful cedar and bramble notes on the nose. Balanced oak and dark currants on entry leading to a long and spicy finish. Another great expression of Zin by Seghesio!

Time does this Zin justice..... After a hour + decant, it was very smooth with typical black cherry, licorice and a long spicy finish but so much more refined than other Rockplie Zins. The '10 is phenominal, and having bought the last of their remaining inventory, I asked Seghesio to search their cellar for any "off the grid". It's that good.

I'm not going to rate this because we didn't do it justice by decanting, the next day it had opened up and was a much better wine. This wine is still young and deserves the whole decanting treatment and maybe more, let it age to 2016.

Interesting, we liked this bottle better before dinner than with or after dinner. Lots of dark fruit including plum, spice, and earth on the palate along with a long finish.

Big, juicy Rockpile zin by Seghesio. Black cherry and black licorice on the nose. Loads of ripe black cherry, blackberry, black plum, more licorice/anise, some earthiness, nice acidity, fine grained tannins and a medium long finish.

Fairly dark purply color. Somewhat woody nose with a slight astringency that suggests alcohol. Fairly fruity on introduction to the palate—blackberry and, maybe some citrus. Acid hit gives the citrus impression but it might also be compared to stone fruit—plum or peach. Some suggestion of spice—clove. Very warm finish, but, to the detriment of this wine, the final impression is fruity sweetness.

Lots of earth, blackberry, and anise. Not as complex as their other offerings, but appreciate the dry, round tannins and the exclusion of the sappy berries that mar so many Sonoma Zins.

Started out with strong licorice notes, almost too much at first, but then settled down over time and was just a phenomenal Zin. It paired extremely well with smokey BBQ chicken (as all Zins do), cheesy Jambalaya rice and cornbread. A pairing made in heaven! Highly recommended and will stock up on this soon.

Darker, complex, luscious, bowl of dark fruit on the nose and palate - along with woody, spicy and earthy notes, also a touch of black licorice. Long finish. Believe this will get better in the 6-18 month time frame, it was a little tight, but opened up over time. The additional aging time could really make this a better wine, better score. This has potential.

We are huge fans of the normal Zin that's $18 at Costco. This WAS better and we enjoyed the wine, just not enough to justify the premium. We will pass.

First pour, fruity, hot, lighter body than most Zins. Nose is blackberry jam and alcohol. Light tannin, medium finish, some leathery notes. 15 minutes in the glass and the alcohol is less pronounced. Less blackberry and more plum. Starting to developa hint of citrus. 30 minutes in glass the tannins are diminished and a distinct note of cherry has developed. Second pour after an hour and it has developed subtle earth tones and black pepper spice. Next day the complexity remains, more peppery and plummy and a much longer finish. This wine would be worth cellaring for a few more years or drink now and take your time with it.

Rich, full-bodied with taste of ripe blackberries, cassis and black currants. A bit peppery and floral. Paired quite nicely with a Porterhouse steak with thyme-shallot butter and roasted fingerling potatoes.

Opaque plum appearance. Grapy, jammy aromas of creme de cassis, bubble gum, vanilla, and oak. More of the same on the palate, joined by blackberries, plums, medium acidity, and a stony minerality on the fruity finish.

Dark jammy fruit on the nose. Light acidity in the finish with light tannins. Finish is long but there is noticeable alcohol present in the flavor. Will have to lie down for 5-7 years.

Had this at Half price wine night at Dungeness tonight. Wife and I both have had Seghesio Zins that were better, and this wine was very good. Just not memorable! Friut first, good bite in the middle and a good finish. Paid $25! Had with fresh Seafood.

Who would've thought a 5 year old zinfandel needed more time? That said, this was wonderful.

Same notes as 2/11/14. This really needs LOTS of air - decanting/breathing, and you will be amply rewarded versus shortchanged if you pop and pour.

Acidic, sharp and fruity, with plenty of classic earth and Zin spice. Nicely put together.

Tart red strawberry fruit with lighter hue. Not a big zin, more delicate. Some development as it sat in the bottle.
