This is one of those wines that tastes great as you sip it on its own, but is a little boring alongside food. Smells like licorice. On the palate (and without food) I get get dark cherry and plum, with chocolate, and then licorice, sweet cigar, and vanilla notes on the finish. I also get lots of dried fruit flavors like raisons, or really fruit cake. Herbs on the finish. At 14.5% alcohol and 28 months in new French oak, this is velvety and opulent. I love the mouth-feel here—it’s thick and rich yet so alive. I can see why they make Amarone out of this.
It’s a very delicious and sexy wine on its own, especially for what I paid, but I prefer wines to be more food friendly. If I want opulent, I’d prefer Amarone. If I want a high-end Italian wine to pair with dinner, I’d prefer Tuscany or Piedmont. I’d buy this again if I were rich and could buy without discretion, but not sure I’d buy it again when I have to be selective. Nevertheless, I was pretty sad when I finished my last sip.

Not my thing but still quite nice. A winter warmer - dark fruits, liquorice, cigar etc. I’ve had a few these a while but seeing what it sells for now cant help but think there is better value elsewhere. Each to their own!!!!

Cannot remember much other than it was very dark and a deep plummy liquorice quality to it. Decanted for 2hrs. Ready to drink but will leave rest for another year.

Frank & Sue's for Dinner (PHX): Pop n pour. This definitely requires a decanter. Extremely dark colored, pushing inky. Nose comes off as high octane and fruit forward. Ripe dark fruit/berries with a raisin note but not off-putting. Mocha/unsweetened dark chocolate throughout the finish. Quite a long finish with big structure.

Nose: mature red fruits, dark choco, perfume rose petals, vanilla Palate: Very good structure, silky tannins, more elegant style of Amarone, plenty of minerals, dark red fruits, long length. You cannot stop once you start drinking it.

The 2007 Allegrini La Poja Veronese IGT is medium purple-ruby in colour with a very perfumed nose of rose petals, smoky red fruits, chocolates. Attractive nose indeed and very enticing.
On the palate, the wine boasts of dark red fruits, dark cherries, backed up with a firm structure and underlying smokiness. There is a lot of elegance and style in this wine. Entering the palate expansively, bursting its flavours and coating the palate before drawing an end of laser like focus. It's firm acidity lies underneath its powerful fruit notes drives the wine on a memorable super long finish. Balance is key here, with lots of underlying character. Superb and definitely many years ahead.
I definitely have high hopes in this wine for its future ahead. (90+)

The wine looks ruby colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like prune and raisin. The body is medium/full. The wine has a polished and full texture. The wine finishes medium to long with a fantastic back palette and solid acidity.

Quite fresh nose with fragrant wood, some earthiness and some sultana raisins (despite not having any acctual dried grapes in it). Some complexity on the nose here. Sweetish flavour with some overripe fruit and very gentle structure (could definetely do with more).

Tasted with a cold: short note. Deep purple-ruby, slow moving tears @ 14.5% abv. Medium(-) aromas of ripe dark cherries and spice, cannot discern much due to runny nose. Dry, medium(-) acidity, medium-medium(+) plush tannins, medium(+) body and alcohol. Medium(+) flavours of black cherries, cocoa, blackberries, leather. Good length and rich sweet-bitter finish. A good wine. Not rated given cold.
