  • Squishy cork. Ruined. Molto triste.

  • This is one of those wines that tastes great as you sip it on its own, but is a little boring alongside food. Smells like licorice. On the palate (and without food) I get get dark cherry and plum, with chocolate, and then licorice, sweet cigar, and vanilla notes on the finish. I also get lots of dried fruit flavors like raisons, or really fruit cake. Herbs on the finish. At 14.5% alcohol and 28 months in new French oak, this is velvety and opulent. I love the mouth-feel here—it’s thick and rich yet so alive. I can see why they make Amarone out of this.

It’s a very delicious and sexy wine on its own, especially for what I paid, but I prefer wines to be more food friendly. If I want opulent, I’d prefer Amarone. If I want a high-end Italian wine to pair with dinner, I’d prefer Tuscany or Piedmont. I’d buy this again if I were rich and could buy without discretion, but not sure I’d buy it again when I have to be selective. Nevertheless, I was pretty sad when I finished my last sip.

  • Dekanterades i 3h
