Lots of structure, smoked meat, juniper, smoke, a tiny bit of dark fruit, more smoke. No change on second day. There is no obvious defect, just an underperforming wine. Hoping for more luck with my remaining bottles.

As the name would suggest (the dwelling place of a hermit / monk), Hermitage is a tiny appellation. However the wine is not reclusive at all! Though still benefitting from two hours of slow ox, it unrolls from the glass with an elegant and fine bouquet of olives and herbs, followed by succulent cherries and a hint of wood on the palate.
I love its cooling, ethereal sensation and smoothness. For the sentimental wine fans, this is a wine for recalling those delicate, delicious memories of our climate as it once used to grace our vines, not to be continued any time soon. For the rest of us, it is a gentle reminder to rediscover the soft side of self.

This still needs a few years to truly express all the great flavours this has. Dark red, slight nose of fruit/flowers, flavours of leather, dark fruit, chocolate. The tannins are evident as slight oak notes on the back of the palate and give this wine a sense of dryness the month. This does open up with a few hours of decanting but not enought for me to open another bottle for at least 5 years. Needs patience!!! A beautiful Syrah.

My first of 3 bottles. Opened for 3 hours. Color is deep opaque garnet red/purple. On the nose: Cassis , plum, violets, pepper, blood and just a hint of vanilla. On the palate: Cassis, violets, massive pepper, blackberries , blood and a bit of dark chocolate. Flavors are long and very broad. Fabulous mouthfeel. World class wine

restrained nose of black fruit and light oak - austere mouth - full body but acid predominating - firm moderate tannins - short (5-10 sec) finish - based on previous notes, I would guess this is going through a closed phase now - but given the relative paucity of fruit, I'm not sure where this wine is going - would wait another 3-5 years before trying again in the hope that some complex flavors develop

This just gets going and never quits. The wine is incredibly intense, perfectly balanced and the purity in the fruit coats your palate with layers of lush, powerful, ripe, mineral-driven, salty, deep, dark red fruits. The seamless finish stays with you for about 50 seconds. Wines this good can be enjoyed young, but the real fireworks should kick in between 2025 and 2030. It is going to be worth the wait.

North Rhone 2010 Horisontal Tasting: Nose: Young fruit, sewer, sewage, sulfur. Palate: Sweet juicy dark plum fruit, asphalt, burnt dirt, good structure. Intense and charming with an impressive structure.

If this had been blind, I would've thought it was a high end Napa cab. Dark fruit embraced by an almost impenetrable blanket of new oak. Hopefully the oak will fade with time, I'm not optimistic about what will remain.

Disappointed. Did not live up to critic reviews.
Dark purple, grainy on the palate, good structure but lacked any fruit or depth.
