No sediment. Deep inky purplish red, pink at the rim. Right out of the bottle, a very generous nose: violets, rose, damp forest floor. In the mouth, well balanced, drying tannins followed by fruit and acid. However not giving much away yet. After 1h the general impression is "tart" but it's a wine with real backbone. It paired well with a steak - but in more of a supporting role as a quality and well balanced glass.

Deep ruby in the glass. Developing nose showing notes of raspberry, cherry, plum, lit up cigar and spiced biscuits. You can see that this wine is coming from an average vintage as it’s not displaying much depth or structure. Just a one-dimensional expression of Bordeaux.

The estate is half cabernet and half merlot. Cabernet ripens later so it is always put in the best terroirs for most Chateau. Chateau Margaux is much more traditional in the sense that they mostly grow Cabernet. Much Merlot planted here in the 1930 and they planted in included the area where you would planted Cabernet. So some of the Merlot is planted to gravel soils. Including a specic plateau. So thier Merlot is really quite powerful because of this different approach and very unique.
Estate is 150 acres, 100% biodynamically farmed. They make two wines - Palmer and Altero Ego. 1998 was first vintage of Alter Ego. IT is made side by side starting with a grape selection that now over time certain parcels go into Altero. They help make a wine that is more fruit forward and more approachable than Chateau Palmer itself.
From a coravin with much black fruit expression on the nose. And drinks very forward on the palate as well. But still has quite good structure. 6% Petite Verdot in the vineyard.
The breakdown of grapes varies from year to year. Very small yield in '11 because of a hailstorm in June. Full bodied, fresh and very powerful but very youthful still.

Classic young Bordeaux. I like the fruit it has, but it's definitely old-world at heart, with savory graphite and cedar notes. It's not a big wine but interesting with a complex finish. I will age the other bottle I have for a while but I don't think this will benefit a ton beyond 2018 or so.

Decanted for an hour. Very expressive on the nose with strong cassis and a touch of lilac. The palate has abundant tannins, strong dark cassis, feeling young now. Quite delicious and feels like it is together right now, really good!

The second wine of Château Palmer. A blend of Merlot (48%), Cabernet Sauvignon (37%) and Petit Verdot (15%). Aged for 17 months in barriques.
Very dense and concentrated, purple-hued black cherry color, completely opaque. Somewhat restrained nose that shows light yet ripe and nuanced aromas of plummy dark fruit, some concentrated inky character, a little bit of cassis, a light reductive hints of plastic or play-doh and a touch of sweet vanilla. The wine is immensely dense, extracted and powerful on the palate with heavy-set, full body and an imposing, unyielding wall of robust tannins. The wine is dry with powerful flavors of succulent dark berries, tart red berries, extracted dark fruit character, a little bit of licorice, light woody touch of pencil shavings, a hint of vanilla and a touch of sweet cocoa oak. The wine is very tightly-knit and angular on the palate with its high acidity and extremely grippy tannins. Despite its concentrated character, the wine isn't super-big and massive, but instead just quite lean and very muscular. The finish is dry and very grippy with lengthy, juicy flavors of ripe dark fruits, spicy bitterness, some herbal bitterness and leafy character, light inky notes, a hint of toasty cocoa oak and a savory touch of graphite.
A massively structured yet not massively big and weighty 2nd wine that is as brooding and imposing as its bigger brother, only showing a bit less weight and complexity. Nevertheless, a very impressive effort that feels more like a classic old-school Bordeaux from a warmer year, only opened too young, instead of those very fruit-forward and oak-heavy modernist Bordeaux wines. Still very tightly wound at this phase and feeling quite shut down, but offering tremendous aging potential. Although very impressive effort, this wine will most likely offer rather little enjoyment before its 10th birthday. Hiding this wine away in the farthest corner of you cellar is heartily recommended. A great wine for those who enjoy concentrated and structured style of Bordeaux, but prefer the savory and lean classic style over the softer, sweeter and more fruit-forward style of modern Bordeaux. Quite expensive at 80,40€, but might actually have the stuffing to be worth its price with enough age. Recommended.

Chalky, black raspberry and fresh herbal aromas , medium bodied, inviting silky textures and a tannic, black cherry, olive tapenade finish that will be better with a few years of age.

Blending 48% Merlot, 37% Cabernet Sauvignon and for only the second time, 15% Petit Verdot, the wine opens with mocha, cocoa, truffle and cassis. In the mouth, the wine offers chocolate, cherry and dusty tannins. 89-90 Pts

Decanted for an hour. Strong cassis o the nose, good fruit and tannins on the palate. In a good spot now, but should get better with some more age.

Sour cherry. Thin and monodimensional. Massively overpriced at $110 duty free. After a couple of unpleasurable glasses it was down the sink.
