Our first bottle since 2013, I was a bit fearful this one was gone, but we were very pleasantly surprised as this was wonderfully different from our last experience, yet just as rewarding - Dark w/ambering rim, medium bodied with a nose of plum, blackfruit, dust, cherry, cedar and vanilla once it got a bit of air in the glass, well structured with finesse, intensity, complexity, dry on the palate with excellent length, likely at the point where it may not be to everyone's taste, but if you enjoy the full evolution of a wonderful Rioja you're likely good for another 2-3 years (91 Points).

Very typical Gran Reserva nose of stewed cherries and wood/wood spice. Rich and warm in the mouth. More cooked black cherries, plums, wood and spice on the palate. Silky but present tannins slide across the palate with bright acidity. As usual, though woody, this Rioja was an fantastic accompaniment to lentils and chorizo. 90

Better than the last bottle as it is balanced fruit and earthy tones. The acid is moderate and tannins medium fine. Long smooth finish. Good time to enjoy your last bottles.

Beronia consistently offer good quality/value wines, this is no exception, red berries and oak on the nose berries fresh red plums and leather in the mouth and still some acidity, like others the drinking window seems short, plenty of life left in this bottle, good drink for the money.

Nose full of stinky old wine-soaked oak, damp earth (possibly Brett) and spices. Med-full bodied and quite dense with ample tannin and bright acidity as well as baked cherry pie. Good pair with food, you must love traditional Rioja. Drink 2017-2020 89

Classic Rioja. Ample leather, cedar and cigar box on the nose. Restrained but delicious red fruits and pomegranate on the palate, with a good dose of spices (clove, allspice). Nice acidity. Suggest decanting and letting it breathe for 45 mins. Good value for money.

Better than expected. 90-91 The nose is dominated by sweet oak, with leather and some red fruit, but the palate is more complex and is well balanced. This is ageing well, with firm yet giving tannins. This paired well with a supreme pizza on day #1, and pork roast on day 2, although the complexity seemed diminished on day #2.

Garnet color with very dark core and brick rim. Lots of sediment and fat legs. Fresh and lovely bouquet: fruity, spicy and woodsy. Full bodied and complex with a robust palate: wooden treasure chest, cigar box, apple vinegar, elderberry and allspice. Tart and chalky tannins with a long and slightly bitter finish. Opens up after about an hour.

A bright ruby wine with amazingly long legs. The nose is enticing with scents of Kirsch, earth, and cigarbox. Plush in the mouth with tastes of dried cherry, orange zest, and plenty of acidity. Tannins are well integrated and provide good structure. Really good length on the finish with more dried cherry and orange zest at the very end. Best the first night (impressive even), but didn't hold up the second night, as it had significantly faded even under good storage conditions. The 2005 Gran Reserva was good, but I definitely preferred the Beronia 2005 Reserva, which was simply a standout wine.

An excellent traditional Rioja, ready to drink now with at least a one hour decant, but will be enjoyable for many years to come, the drink window is well beyond 2016 as listed on CT, I'd say into 2024 at least...

The wine looks inky colored. The legs are medium. There is light sediment in the bottle. It smells like blackberry and black pepper while it tastes like blackberry, plum, cherry, black pepper and has a medicinal note to it. The body is medium/full. Angular in texture, the wine has low acidity and a medium finish. Great value.

Gonzales Byass wines tasting (Wine Depot, Tel-Aviv): dark red-purple. nose: fresh bouquet of red fruit with an earthy, green pepper notes. palate: medium-full body, good acidity level, traditional style Rioja, lacks complexity, somewhat lean, medium-long finish.
20 hours later: nose: fresh young fruity notes, with green-veggie & earthy hints palate: sour red fruits, hardly any oxidation notes, firm tannins, high acidity level, very good harmony, long fruity finish. Generally, this is a med-level Rioja Gran Reserva. still very young wine. equivalent to a high level Rioja reserva. should age at least 4 years more till its optimal drinking windows.

Ruby color. Flavors opened up after 30 mins in decanter. Sweet flavors of plums, blackcurrant, cherries, raisins and earth with slight smokiness. Mild sour tempranillo taste on the finish. Nice drinking, but should smoothen out even more with more age.

Excellent bottle of wine. Very smooth, delicate on the palate, complex woody bouquet, elegant and refined, low acidity, very easy to drink. I loved the texture / mouth feel. Medium bodied. Hints of oak, raisins, sweet cherries. A lot like the Beronia Rioja Reserva, but a lot smoother, balanced, and satisfying. Decanted this for 2 hours.

Decanted. After 30 minutes: Ruby turning ever so slightly brick. Bouquet of red fruit (cherry) with a hint of violet, green pepper, and faint smoke. Medium body and acidity. Old style Rioja. Medium - long finish. Opened significantly after another 30 minutes: more earthy tones, raisins on the nose, black tea on the finish. Really enjoyed this Rioja! Nik rates it a 90.

Lovely nose with red fruit, spice cake and tea. The oak (in the form of vanilla) is present in the bouquet but by no means dominates or detracts from the overall scent profile. The attack is supple, smooth and juicy. Ripe cherry and plum come to the fore in the mid-palate, supported by allspice and more tea. The finish is long and mildly spicy with elegant black pepper notes. Great wine. I intend to buy more.

Decanted; agree with many of the previous notes especially DrWine2001; deep ruby; initially jammy and oak on the nose; sensed more oak than others in addition to blue and black fruit, which literally competed like a sine wave for sensory attention: now fruit, now oak, now fruit again. Came together over two days to show smokiness, excellent acid balance and moderate but not overwhelmingly tannic length. OK day 1, much better over the next two days. Give this one plenty of time to breathe and you will be rewarded.

Rioja-Pink, White and Red (San Francisco Wine Trading Company): Medium ruby. Discrete oak and green herbs. Round entry.
