Well! This has finally come round! Just threw it in the basement and waited. Not a sign of being over the hill. Deep red, dark fruit, underwood, vanilla, tobacco, much less harsh tannins than previously. Very nice balance. Is it worth doing it this way? Probably not! Woud drink now if you have any, which you probably don’t!

Birth year wines (plus some extra's) (@ JB): Rustic bouquet with dark and red forest fruits. A pleasant touch of barnyard as well. On the palate ripe dark forest fruits and rustic as well. The tannin still has a firm bite. Straight forward wine, but certainly very good. Can probably last until 2020+.

Dark red with moderate sediment. Nose of roasted meat, game and raspberry. Total absence of fruit. Strong tannins with long finish. Hardly worth the wait.

Deep bouquet with laurel, cassis, graphite, ink and earthy impressions. On the palate also dark fruits like cherries. Still firm tannin which is of good quality. A delicious wine which is ready now and probably has enough power to last at least until 2015.

Still a bruiser. Very youthful appearance. Brooding dark fruits on the nose, Bit of meat. Still quite a mouthful, noticeable tannins but good acidity so refreshing. Still suitably savage.

Tasted in a big 94 tasting. A good wine that shows notes of leather, forest, dried fruits, still some good tannins. We tasted it directly against a 94 Giusto di Notri from Tua Rita, which people loved more. I guess this wine is at his peak and will remain there for some 3 years or so.

Kevin's birthday (Windmill Portuguese Restaurant, High Street, Walthamstow, London): This was like I would imagine a 1986 left bank Bordeaux might taste like if I had ever had one. Pretty dark colour - not much ageing at all. This opened out more and more as the evening wore on. Dried blood, iron, leather, almost meaty notes on the nose. The palate is still crunchy with tannins, but there's a good dollop of acidity too. Not exactly fruity, nor in any way dried out. There's a slightly wildness to this too - not controlled like a claret is. No hurry to drink this. I enjoyed this a lot.

Still a little bit of fruit behind a thick wall of tannins. Not a very enjoyable wine. Drink up

Drinking really well now. Still a little tannic bite, but delicious and ready to go from the open. Little change over 3 hours or so.
