Deuxième occasion que je deguste ce vin. Un peu déstabilisant pour un Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Nez , noix, noisette. Bonne longueur.

Much better than previous bottles I tasted which used to show lots of power and alcohol. Did it just need more time? Was my palate more ready for it this time? I'm not sure but it was much more supple than last times, not overly high in alcohol and quite pleasant to drink on its own really. Dark fruits, hints of kirsch and Provence herbs notes.

From magnum. Drank over two days. Opened for lunch. First glass was a bit disjointed, 5 hours open the wine sang. Keep it below 18 c and this is fantastic. Manages to stay balanced then. Secondary flavors and early tertiary. In a nice place. Has years to go in this 150cl format in a cold cellar.

In a good place right now; Nice brambly fruit, a touch of grip with the tannins; a touch of heat but minimal; No need to hold on to this vintage much longer because we all thought it was near the end of its peak.

Barnyard and saline aromas on opening, turning to dark fruits and herbs with some air. Lots of minerality and structure for the first hour which gave way to more full bodied dark fruits, licorice, kirsch, and smooth, mouth coating tannins. Delicious!

Showed some age in color and on the nose, but fruit is still there massively and quite sweet. It's really lovely in many ways, but a bit too sweet for me... It's also pretty hot at 15.5%, but the alcohol integrates more after some air. Much better showing after about 5 hours in the decanter.

Nice bouquet with dark fruit and cassis, some leather and spices. On the palate, it is notable how juicy this wine is. It is medium-full bodied with the tannins well integrated. However, I find the alcohol present, not so much as to make the wine unbalanced but still noticeable. Long finish. Overall, very good wine that drinks very well but the alcohol holds it back from a higher score.

Really spicy wine, whose fragrance is the outstanding feature. Essence of Grenache, with a real kirsch nose and initial fruit entry which is beguiling. Farmyard and (expensive) leather adds interest and class. A bid wine with spicy heat fro the alcohol. An outstanding g wine by any measure, this is fabulous for the vintage. Mineral top note (oyster shell), a hint of caramel, very spicy finish with very very fine tannins. The alcohol does feel a little hot for the weight of the wine, Only in early maturity, and may eve olive into something really interesting with further ageing.

Typical Châteauneuf-du-Pape aroma with ripe black fruit and barnyard notes. Slightly sweet black fruit flavor with notes of blackberry, black currant, black cherry, plum, raisin, graphite, and vanilla. Soft, plush texture. Decent alcohol with a slight burn on the finish. Well integrated at this point.
Hold, still plenty of life. Not a great vintage but very tasty nonetheless, just don’t expect mind blowing complexity.

Well our usual large Xmas Eve dinner was downsized to 8 people this year. We still managed to drink two magnums of wine. This and the Janasse Chaupin of the same vintage. The nose on this wine was deeper than its cousin. The palate was blackberry, dark plums, a hint of licorice and a touch of cedar. A finish that was moderately long and it was a perfect accompaniment to the rack of pork it was served with as well as the cheese course that followed.

Deep purple color. Aromas of blackberries, plums, licorice and wood spices. Ripe, full-bodied, nicely-integrated fruit in the mouth with excellent depth and length. Very thick and long on the palate and great intensity. A superlative effort for the 2011 vintage. At peak.

PnP. Classic CDP nose with garrigue, maybe some meaty notes. Abundant dark red fruit that is not overdone. Acidity is medium, tannins are in check. 10-15 second finish. If you like Chateauneuf-du-Papes, this one is ready to go. Feels like it is in the midst of losing some primary fruit and getting some additional complexity, but I'll never know since this is my only bottle. Great wine.

Decanted For an hour, then followed over 2.5 hours; again used sommelier Sirah stems.
Extremely fragrant bouquet with flowers, dark cherries, thyme and beef bourguignon. Flavor profile is very fresh and vibrant, and the prominent fruit still has quite a bit of opportunity to tone down as the wine continues to develop.
This is quite enjoyable on its own or with food. Just entering it struck a window at this point, and certainly good through 2025+

I'm a Janasse fan and this bottle fell right in line with others I’ve had. Aerated and decanted straight from the cellar and drank over several hours. Barnyard hay and salt water aromas. Cherry cordial, black pepper, jammy and big in the mouth, long finish. Can't ask for much more from a bottle of wine.

High Low Blind Tasting Part II - Can you taste the difference NOW? (Amy and Scott's house): Decanted 1 hour and served alongside a 2012 La Vinsobraise Vinsobres Sélection Vieilles Vignes. This wine was considerably more complex. There was a bit of stewed fruit in this, along with tomato, black licorice, dark fruit and earth. 14 out of 15 people preferred this over the Vinsobraise.

Decanted and enjoyed with food. Similar to my prior experience back in December 2016. Clear, deep ruby color. Developing aromas of medium plus oak spice, garrigue; rocky, dry earth; smokey red and blue berries; sweet licorice, black plum, leather, and black raspberry. There’s a fair amount of complexity on the palate with lots of medium plus dried herbs, cinnamon spice, black licorice, sweet plum, and dried raspberry. Full body and high alcohol, with a fair amount of tannin, acidity, and some unresolved oak. Very long finish. Still has lots of cellar life in front of it and could drink well for another 10-12 years.

This was very enjoyable on pop and pour. Nose of freshly baked herbed bread, later turning into classic garrigue. On the palate dark fruit and earth, medium body, some spice, a hint of stewed tomatoes.

Fabulous Rhone. Not clear to me if this is mostly old vines grenache or if it is a GSM with significant syrah. In any case, a great wine. BTW, this was consumed after a 3 hour decant and I would recommend that again. It started off a bit tannic, but by the end it was fabulous.

Two hours in the decanter, drunk out of sommelier Syrah stems. Faint crushed stone, graphite and dark red fruit on the nose. The wine offers a fine coating of silk on the pallet, and as noted by others, taste so much like the nose. While a very solid wine, could rate even higher if there was more layering and depth.

Outstanding. Typical high end CDP profile but really good all the way through. Suspect it is still getting better at this young age; will wait at least 3 years on my 2nd bottle unless I can get my hands on more of this. Was decanted 2+ hours before drinking but was very good immediately as well.

Dark Burgundy. Medium plus body. High alcohol Luscious dark fruit. Slate. Pencil led. Cigar box. Dusty Succulent wine. Tastes like the nose. Medium plus finish This wine was chosen by the Sommelier. What a pick.
The food here is complex and what one would expect of front forward French cuisine. Not necessarily my cup of tea but interesting.

Opaque garnet/ruby turning crimson at the rim with a reflective edge. The nose gives off ripe black berries with hints of coffee and cigar box. The palate is ripe and full-bodied with a velvety texture. Flavors of white pepper, smoke, graphite, charcoal and chocolate envelope a ripe blackberries and black cherry core. Finishes long and smoky with sweet, refined tannin. Drink now with a 20-minute decant until 2026.

I brought this to a dinner with serious wine drinkers - and this was the favorite of the night. Delicious & rich, it was perfect with a tomato soup & grilled cheese. I know the food doesn't sound fancy, but it was gourmet and the first of 6 courses.

Decanted and enjoyed with thick cut, roasted pork chops smothered in sun dried tomatoes, garlic, onions, and antipasti served over tossed garlic pasta. Big, aromatic, impressive, focused, and rich. The "regular" bottling of the 2011 CdP was outstanding a few months ago, but this is more concentrated and massive, while displaying elegance and balance. Smokey dark berries, spicy cherries, juicy plum, black herbal tea, licorice and some dried Herbs de Provence. Plenty of stuffing to support many years of cellaring. Acidity, oak and fruit set up an extremely long, long finish. Great stuff!

Perfumed nose. Alcohol is present, especially when you swirvel the glass. It would get better balanced and integrated after a few hours. However, the palate of this producer never gets my vote. There is no difference here. It's personal preference, but I would not recommend.

This is amazing stuff. Bouquet is rich with herbs de Provence, red berries perfectly picked, and toasty barrels, with an undercurrent of spice that is very typical. Palate does the bouquet justice by providing a muscular and fleshy experience filled with fruits and spices that take to the Cote du Rhone. Excellent and a great value all things considered.

Decanted for 6 hours which I think was warranted. Big wine. Really deep and smokey. Has a gamey, iron tinge to it. Purple fruit, but not a lot of fruit in general. Long finish. Already well integrated. Kind of drank more like a Syrah to me even though it is 85% Grenache. Went great with smoked pork tenderloin. 93 for now with upside.

Typical CdP VV nose. However, very light and a bit harsh in the finish. I don't think this will resolve over time. For this price tag I prefer the Chaupin 2009 or (for a few pennies more) the 2009 VV (which I adore!)

Chateauneuf-du-Pape Tasting (Caros Wines, Parnell, Auckland, New Zealand): Dense purple, ruby rim. Classy nose of pure cassis liqueur, herbs and hidden dark depth. Fabulous structure, excellent balance between ripeness, clarity and balance. Great length. This wine is singing beautifully at the moment and is a wine that is built of impeccable balance. Dark purple. Nose of dark fruit, licorice, minerals with hits of bacon, quite complex. On the palate good balance with nice acidity, not heavy despite the alcohol, still quite fruity and red berry dominated style. Needs more complexity for a score in the mid 90ies though.

This was very enjoyable on pop and pour. Nose of freshly baked herbed bread, later turning into classic garrigue. On the palate dark fruit and earth, medium body, some spice, a hint of stewed tomatoes.

Dark berry, cocoa, and toasted oak notes. Elegant, balanced. Last half glass was brighter and more energetic. I would recommend an hour plus decant.

Two star michiline star restaurant
Dark Burgundy. Medium plus body. High alcohol
Luscious dark fruit. Slate. Pencil led. Cigar box. Dusty
Succulent wine. Tastes like the nose. Medium plus finish
This wine was chosen by the Sommelier.

Impressive nose of black fruits, spice box, licorice and a touch of earth. In the mouth, well structured. Good balance of acidity and tannin. Has a long life ahead of it. Consumed after 3 hours in the decanter.

Rich, dark berry and chocolate notes. Very well balanced. Drank this a bit too young to get the full range of notes, but there were strong hints of the immense potential here.

The hot vintage give this much darker colour, high alcohol, tannin is smoothier than the Chaupin and Tradition.
Tasted at the domaine.

It smells like cherry and plum and forest floor. It has a nice mineral taste as well as black pepper and black currant. The body is medium/full with a nice smooth texture. The wine finishes long and has very nice acidity. A nice big wine but never out of bounds. Very very nice. Take your time with it.

93-94 pts

Full bodied, rich and polished, the fruit is fresh, ripe and expresses purity, length and supple textures. Produced from a blend 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre, the wine reached 15.5 alcohol.

First class and a great example of the 2011 vintage in that it is a wine of immaculately judged proportion. 94-5

Dark purple. Nose of dark fruit, licorice, minerals with hits of bacon, quite complex. On the palate good balance with nice acidity, not heavy despite the alcohol, still quite fruity and red berry dominated style. Needs more complexity for a score in the mid 90ies though.

This was great, perhaps not as great as 09 and 10, but definetely worth seeking out, intense and dense only downside for me is the high alcohol.

This is even more complex, beautifully built up with a final getting close to 50 seconds. Its multidimensional mouth presents layers upon layers of finesse, driving towards a very neat final. This is an awesome wine, rivaling with the Deus Ex Machina 2011. To follow….96-97+ points
