Took a few minutes to open up but wow! Black cherries, plums, black raspberries, licorice and earthiness in the nose. Black cherries, plums, and minerality in the flavor and finish. Complex, well balanced, medium to full bodied and a very long smooth finish. Delicious! 96-97

WWC Hosting (FWC): Slow ox for about 4 hours. In the glass, it was cloudy, with the slightest bricking around the edges. But the nose screamed a Sonoma coast pinot. Rasberry and some cherry, mixed with cola on the palate. In a great place and very enjoyable. I don’t think of Aubert as a whole cluster producer, but this one was at least partial whole cluster.

Decanted for 30 minutes. Aromas of sassafras, brown sugar, dried cherry, raspberry and hint of smoke. Flavors of sweet cherry, dried strawberry, cola, earth and touch of brown sugar. Ends with a great finish of 35-40 seconds with cola and brown sugar notes. Drinking incredibley well for an almost 12 year old Pinot Noir. Would be great if these weren’t so expensive. Unfortunately my last bottle of Aubert Pinot Noir.

Decanted an hour. Powerful aroma of raspberry, some green stem, lead pencil, vanillin. Lovely raspberry notes, with good acidity just a touch of sweetness, very soft tannins, flinty minerality, and layers of complexity. A beautiful CA pinot, drinking well at this stage.

Decanted 2 hours. Clear, dark garnet color. Powerful macerated berry and cedar aroma wafts from the glass. Rich, ripe raspberry, blackberry and black cherry forward with strawberry mid-palate as moderate sweetness and a touch of vanillin emerges, balanced and finished by light dusty tannins and a stony minerality. Silky mouthfeel, there is a slight alcohol heat in the finish. I am impressed the fruit is tasting so fresh at 10 years. A decadent, sweeter, higher ABV (15.3%) Pinot, delicious young and at 10 years, it can still go a few years more, but when the fruit fades, it will likely be over the hill.

Very dark, thick, good flavor, pronounced dark berry. Very enjoyable. The wine looks crimson colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like blueberry and strawberry jam. It tastes like strawberry and blackberry. The body is medium/full. The wine has round texture. The wine has low acidity.

This 2010 was a more earthy rendition, with ripe strawberry, rhubarb, black cherry, mulch, cedary loam/soil, and some subtle underbrush. A little funky, which added interest for some, but was a detractor/flaw for others, especially when compared to the fresher 2012 version served next to it. I found the 2010’s “flaw” to be fairly endearing, with just the right amount of garrigue-like old world charm to add character to the core fruit. It wasn’t barnyard by any means whatsoever...just a kiss of earth to add to the flavor profile.
The 2012 by way of comparison was fresher, more plush, and more fruit-driven. Definitely more modern in that regard. The 2012 is more of a “correct” wine, but I could still get down with the 2010’s idiosyncratic groove. Drink now though, as I don’t think time is going to be a friend to this wine as it ages from here on out.
90-ish points for those of you mathematicians who are worried that a little earthy methoxypyrazine - or whatever the hell it is - is a sin (the camp I frequently find myself in actually). 93 points for me cuz in this particular case it was so minimal that I thought it actually elevated the would’ve-been “just fruit” profile otherwise.

Opened with 90 minutes air in the bottle. Dark ruby in the glass with only the slightest hint of bricking. The nose was expressive and youthful - dark fruits - black cherry, plums, and a touch of spice (anise maybe). On the palate, this wine really showed! Dark cherry, dark plum, spicy herbs, anise and a nice mineral base that seemed more Santa Rita hills than Sonoma. Long smooth finish and wonderful notes across the full range of the palate. Overall, this wine is at it's peak, IMO. This is the 7th bottle from the case and while the notes are largely consistent, it is really showing well and I do not see any signs that it will improve from here. If you have it in the cellar, start enjoying your good fortune now.

Thanksgiving Dinner...w family and Eileen. Last bottle from this vintage. Decanted for about 90 minutes prior, drank over an hour.
Consistent with prior notes:"Darker ruby color. Nose showed dark fruits, spice, mocha. Rich and elegant palate. Plums, black cherry, strawberry, minerals, licorice, mild oak some floral notes. Fruit forward in style but not sappy or overwhelming. Nice secondary notes through the mid/back palate"
Decant made a difference here as I think the wine was more open and expressive than last bottle. Silky texture, elegant, very expressive through mid palate. This wine is in a great spot, hard t say how long it will last but I don't think it improves much from here. I think this will last but be at its best over the next 3 years.

Wine opened up nicely in the glass, if venue allows an hour decant would have been preferable. Seems that it has settled into a good spot, may continue to develop in the bottle. Well stored bottles should drink at this level for at least a few more years. The style while elegant, is richer so won't appeal to everyone. Really outstanding wine (as expected from Aubert).

Big. So big it's hard to tell this is actually Pinot Noir. If tasted blind I would have guessed Cab or Grenache. Rich and very full. A particular style. Not elegant nor refined. Don't see age helping this as the components are too disjointed. Not poorly made just a lot of wood, alcohol (15.3%) and influence in the winery.

Domaine Chicago party: Laughably bad wine, of the Mystery Science Theatre 3000 kind. If I put a sticker that says "pinot noir" on a can of Cherry Coke, that doesn't turn the Cherry Coke to pinot noir. Though it might turn it into Aubert.
Burgundy color with a bouquet and flavor of raspberries, toasty oak, and hints of allspice. Very similar to the last bottle, but better with more nuance, definition, and balance. Very pleasant finish. A very nice wine and another win for Aubert.

Although this wine is very deep in color and texture, it didn't deliver the thrills that we have grown to know from an Aubert pinot. Today, it seemed to have never seen any oak! We decanted it and let it rest for about an hour before drinking it with our meal. It showed dark red fruit notes although nothing spoke of a particular fruit. There was a hint of spice also. This wine may be in transition to a new phase of its life.

A solid Pinot but it takes a while to open up. There was a noticeable bitterness which stayed until hour three. It does have some powerful fruit and is more in your face than typical pinots. Enjoyable, but not very food friendly. Perhaps a few more years will help.

At Union Square Cafe, second wine of the evening. Have a few bottles in my cellar I haven't opened yet, first experience with this wine.
Really spectacular - would be interesting to drink this next to red burgundy. Medium+ ruby color. Complex floral and red fruit nose.
Popped and poured, opened over 30 minutes, would definitely improve with a decant. This is lush, complex and elegant wine. California fruit but not over ripe like many tend to be. Fruit forward in style, restrained, great structure. Had with sea bass, others at the table had with lamb. Went well in both cases.
This was the clear WOTN. As elegant and well made a Pinot as you will find in the US. Worth the price...drinks well, now, will be interesting to see how this ages

This wine absolutely rocks and was WOTN! Very California in style with amazing fruit and structure. This wine has been consistently excellent for the last few years. Kicked ass on the 2003 Buoncristiani Napa cab and Arietta Quartet 2004 that were tasted as well. Great with pizzas out of the wood burning oven.

A solid Pinot but it takes a while to open up. There was a noticeable bitterness which stayed until hour three. It does have some powerful fruit and is more in your face than typical pinots. Enjoyable, but not very food friendly. Perhaps a few more years will help.

A bit young, but delicious. Classic California pinot. As good as it gets for my taste.

Really nice, delicate fruit. Took about 5 hours to open up and then, really nice fruit. Better by itself than with food.

Big rich ripe pinot, full bodied and nearly lush. Fun drink and more about yum then nuance.
