Age had made this wine even more profound. Nearing the end of its drinking plateau, so drink up. It is said that a swan’s song is sweetest as it nears death, and this wine is in the same place.

August Kesseler at MingHin (Chicago, IL): #19-12, 11.5% abv. Revisiting this, I'm convinced again that this was the best of the late release Sekts that Lauer released. The most intense and complete, with the typical longans on the nose, but followed by a richness than none of the 1984, 1991, nor 1992 comes close to. This still has almost a Spaetlese amount of sweetness and extract. A bit of earth on the nose and palate too, and really just a gorgeous bottle.

Blind 2004 Tuscany at Osteria Langhe (Chicago, IL): #19-12, 11.5% abv. Whoa, this is a lot more explosive and expressive than I remember it being. Really wild and funky nose, with sweet longan fruit, honeycomb, and yellow apple. The palate is ridiculously dense, with sweet fruit notes again (longans and tart apple), as well as a slight touch of perceptible sweetness -- whether or not there is still residual sugar, I've no clue. Very ripe acids and a coarse mousse. Really good stuff (and as a side note, this is nothing at all like the bony and skeletal -- but still convincing in its own right -- 1992).

Very interesting and unique wine. Rich, ripe and dense, some faint impressions of sweetness. Touches of apple-sauce, tropical fruit, honey-glazed apricots. Very broad, very sexy. Clearly recognisable as a Riesling.

Appearance: Bright and clear, it has medium lemon color, with medium sized bubbles, and legs. Nose: Clean, with medium intensity aromas of citrus fruit such as lemon, tropical fruit of pineapple, maturity notes of petrol and honey, mineral notes of stony, kernel notes of toasted almond, some oxidation aromas of sherry. The wine is fully developed. Palate: Dry with medium (+) acidity, the wine has a medium (-) alcohol level, light body and medium intensity on flavors of citrus fruit like lemon, maturity notes of petrol and honey, kernel notes of almond, mineral notes of stony. The mousse has lost its aggressive due to age however. The wine has a medium (-) finish. Conclusion: Good quality German Sekt with definite development characters, the wine has lost quite a bit of bubbles, but still showing good freshness with a high acidity. The nose is reasonably intense with good complexity, although showing a hint of oxidation. The palate is in balance, light and refreshing, with fair concentration but the finish is a bit shorter than expected. Ready to drink now, the wine is not intend for further ageing.

Super concentrates. Very ripe and intense fruit, petroleum and mature Riesling. Nevertheless searing aciditythat resolves and rounds this wine. A one of a kind category, a true find.

Had no idea what to expect. I would describe it as nice champagne with a very bright middle. Just a tiny bit of oxidation in the flavors, but very fresh and clean overall.

The bead is a little coarse for my taste, but this is pretty good stuff. Honey and some yellow fruits on the nose. Honey and a touch of sweetness on the palate, but still pretty dry. Does not have much apparent age at all. Definitely had some fresh riesling characteristics, and I would definitely buy again.

#19-12. Whoa, this is something entirely different. Extremely fresh, but counterbalanced with some secondary aromas. Some honeyed aromas, as well as some mineral qualities, but the nose is dominated by a note of dried longans. A relatively coarser bead, there is a slight hint of yeastiness, but otherwise, again, this is a very youthful 23-year-old wine. Slight tinge of sweetness, with some citrus flavours, as well as the same dried longan flavour. An eye-opening alternative bubbly.

Dinner in NYC (North End Grill - New York, NY): A strange nose of root beer (good call Michael) I thought the palate was quite decent. A couple people at the table had already tried more sound bottles so they were adamant that this was flawed.

An amazing and unique wine. Tropical fruits with plenty of acidity. Only have 1 other bottle. Wish I had a ton more.

Vibrant and fresh and how you would imagine high quality sparkling riesling should be.

Very different - my first for this. Was very fresh, and did not appear to have aged at all. Lovely nose, as one could imagine.
Drank socially and did not take notes, but my overwhelming memory is how young and fresh this tasted.
I have two bottles left, so notes will inevitably be forthcoming.
