Weekly tasting group RWP #249: Rhône; Gigondas (@ VD): Beautiful and mature with good garrigue. On the palate still some cherries and raspberries, juicy still, also herbs and spices like thyme, rosemary and sage. Some leather and tobacco. Mild acidity and tannin. Beautiful and mature wine.

Deep purplish ruby, aromas of sweet black fruits, raspberry, red licorice, violets, nice floral & spice notes, seaweed, sandalwood, slihtly muted, a bit greet, b3, a3, t3+, starts velvety & sweet, finishes w/acidity creeping up & fine teeth-coating tannins, very nice & interesting but a touch thin, d4, still has some good tangy fruit, loses some secondary nuances, structure a bit more firm (5++) turns (3.5) w/air as funk, woody flavors emerge

Seattle Tasting Group does Southern Rhône (Seattle, WA, USA): Funky, medicinal nose. Very dark on the palate, not giving much, a medium finish. With time in the glass this did start to open up and spread its wings and was certainly a classy wine I would be happy to drink any time.
