Deep red wine in the glass. Short after opening it tends to smell a bit heavy. Deep red fruit en alcohol dominate the nose and some strong tannines in the taste. After 30 minutes or so sitting in the glass the wine completely opens up. Nice tertiary notes, leather and some balsamic acidity and the tannines settle in nicely. After that period this wine simply keeps giving, the 2009 vintage is in its prime and can be enjoyed for years to come. For me, I like the closed opening and the little rough edge the tannines give in the initial taste. It’s a pristine wine that can be enjoyed throughout the evening.

Deep red colour. Not much on the nose. Tannins are still quite prominent. Blackberry and leather flavours. Moderate finish and round in the mouth. Could probably still mature further but very pleasant.

Wow, this is readily approachable as a pop-and-pour, with a medium+ body and round tannins. Perhaps still a little closed, as it doesn't exhibit great complexity at this stage, but it's terribly quaffable! Gave the impression of a Merlot-based blend during the first 10 minutes, then the tannins tightened and the overall profile was more akin to a Cab-driven blend, then it started breaking down it seemed after 50 minutes.

Outstanding gem ... and my 3rd fave 'aia' wine, after Sassicaia and Ornellaia.
After a 75 min. decant, aromas of licorice & tobacco were prominent, with a nice toasted oak following.
Complex palate that kept changing over the night. Started with Black currants & tobacco but transformed into black licorice, anise & earth.
Delightful party for my taste buds - thoroughly enjoyable now. One friend called it a 'balanced, noble wine.'

Solid tanins which open up into dark fruits and resin. Like walking through a pine forest eating dark cherries!

Classy, if a bit broad, succeeds at least in the trick of being a bdx blend that tastes Italian.
