Was served as part of a wine pairing, not sure how much decanting it had. In the nose, a mushroom funk which initially I thought might be corked but it was not. Needed a bit of air in the glass to tone down the tannin which was still strong 16 years in. Delightful palate with raisin and oak and strong complexity. I normally dislike Italian wines but liked this.

Opened and decanted about 3 hours before drinking. Sip upon opening had some prunish/raisiny notes, which blew off during decant. Typical, beautiful brick red color. Restrained nose with some cedar and floral notes. Well integrated red fruits of strawberry and cherry alongside wood and tobacco spices. Smooth tannins and long finish. Great with pasta bolognese!

A very classy mature Brunello, with a core of dried cherry, plum and prune surrounded by resolved cocoa powder tannins. Flashes of mint show that although it's fully mature it retains freshness. It's relaxed and comfortable, unwound. I was very happy with it. It may well keep for years and years but in my opinion no need to wait.

Paired with a homemade Fettuccine all Salsiccia. Opened 1-hour before dinner (no decant). Initially closed, firm tannins and a round mouthful, but mostly muted fruit. Nose was gorgeous, lots of cherries, earth, prunes, wild mushroom. Very promising. 60 minutes in, the wine came about, balancing out and displaying generous (albeit somewhat straightforward) fruit, superb structure and roundness and well integrated tannins. Finnish was long with quite a grip which complemented the dish. Overall a delicious wine.
This is now entering it's peak drinking window, but should balance out over the next 2-3 years, displaying (hopefully) slightly softer tannins and a bit more complexity, which might bring it into 92-93 points territory. Right now drinking solidly and deliciously and merriting 91 points in my mind.

This is a very serious and very deep Brunello. For me, it tastes a tad on the New World side as I detected a little less of Sangiovese purity and a bit more of a strong backbone reminiscent of Super Tuscan blends. Decanted half the bottle into a magnum decanter and after 45 minutes unto a 750 decanter. A very dark red/black hue and a nose that was muted but provided hints of the soil and restrained dark red fruit. Over the next hour, much more of the tannin resolved but the wonderful dark cherry, old wood, tawny flavors only suggested themselves. This is my is my only bottle unfortunately, so keep this for a little while. Hard to say if it will become a star.

2/3. Vg cork. Decanted 1 hr. Medium/deep garnet core, pale garnet rim. This has quite a youthful nose still, with spicy, lightly smoky red cherry fruit, florals, just a touch of coffee as it warms. There is a lovely pure fruited core here. On the palate it is medium/full bodied, with sour, spicy red cherry fruit, good depth, fine tannins, lifted by lovely, vibrant acidity which carries a very good length finish. This is excellent and whilst it can certainly be enjoyed now I have no concerns over keeping it another 5 years.

The nose was dark and brooding, yet also rich, alluring and almost sensual. Here I found crushed strawberry and raspberry with balsamic wood, spices, dusty florals and minerality of oceanic origins. On the palate, silky textures gave way to dark red berries, with a mineral, herbal lift, as a twang of zesty acids added energy. The finish was long with a green tinge yet wonderfully balanced and staying in the vein of the ‘08’s richness, as a mix of red and black fruits lingered along with spice and inner florals.

Aroma: dark cherries, tobacco, leather, spice, Full-bodied with excellent acidity and firm, but quite available tannins. Concentrated and with great structure. Very fruit palate. Excellent length (92).
Still a young BdM, but highly enjoyable today. No riservas made at Canalicchio do Sopra in 2008… Will keep and develop over the next 10 years. At least.

Quite structured and need time in the glass to open. Then a nice core of dark cherry fruit emerged with good grip and intensity on the finish. Having recently tasted the '10 and '12, this is not as good and I think lacks the fruit to carry it through to old age. Out of half bottle at Del Posto.

Took 1-2hrs to come around but when it did, it was showing really well. Young and bright, it has really come together since i last had it. At the early end of its drinking window. I'm holding my others for a year or two before trying again but if i had more i wouldnt hesitate opening another.

During a matter of taste event, Brunello Masterclass. Medium garnet. Nose of blue fruit, mint, forest, cherry, plum, Medium bodied, tannins a touch dry, not as round and balanced as the 2010. A clear step down from that outer-worldly wine.

A Brunello day (Singapore): Brunello master class. Higher acidity than 2010, not your usual round and soft 08, perhaps a bit less complex and deep than 2010. Still very good for the vintage.

Warm and spicy with cherry and salami aromas. Easy-going liquorice and red berry palate. Very approachable: you'd never guess it spent 39 months in oak

Needed 90 minutes after decant to come into its own — brickish red colors evidence of fully aged, mature wine. Drink now — don’t hold much longer.
