It's drinkable but there are giant freckled chunks of fruit swirling around and I just cant get the palate to integrate so it's down the sink. No joy. Time to open something else.

Got this funky age smell when you first open it. But after an hour of decant it begin to fade to a nice balanced aussie Shiraz. Fruit driven with that nice aged complexity. Paired with some good meat. Nice!

Aussie Shiraz; 9/20/2015-10/3/2015 (Edina Country Club): 1 hour decant and drank a glass over about 1.5 hours. Served blind, the consensus was Australian shiraz, but a balanced one! Chocolate, earth, tar, roasted meats, really nice. There was a lot going on here and it was fun to drink. It is definitely on the big-side.

South American Stars (Rocknroller's (Kevin & Vicki's Place)): Very dark red/purple color. Decanted for 1 hour, drank 1 glass blind over an hour. There was little doubt this was an aussie shiraz and a fine one for sure. This was firing on all hedonistic cylinders off the bat. Great nose with roasted meats, savory, great aromatics, creosote, creme de cassis, blackberry. On the palate this is silky and full bodied, perfectly balanced, lusha dn round with creme de cassis, blackberry liqueur, tangy fruit, roasted meat, framboise, lively, black pepper and a long finish. Hands down WOTN taking 7 of 8 votes.

Decanted 30 minutes. This is an obnoxious, haunting wine. The massive ripeness and concentration are compelling and almost unsettling with the degree of their intensity. DMSO, deep red raspberry and blackberry liqueur, and molten river rock presenting with an oily, viscous mouthfeel. Incredible wine with several more years ahead of it.

Stunning, absolutely stunning. I (still) think this is one of the best wines I have ever tasted. It begins to beguile you with a sweet, berry nose of berries, cowhide, barnyard, tobacco, and velvet that turns into the lushest of pure wine tastes. The flavors overwhelm you with their strength and purity. I'll forever hold a place in my cellar for Rusden Black Guts. I can't recommend this wine enough.

Classic Barossa Shiraz flavor profile. The wine still is showing a lot of youth. Dark berries, a little pepper, with enough acid to keep things balanced. This still would benefit from another 3-5 years in the cellar. Solid effort.

Superbly balanced, huge palate, incredibly varied nose with a bit of everything. A berry palate and above the pepper and earth notes, a faint hint of cherry/strawberry. What a wonderful wine. Will reward careful cellaring for another 5 years and will deliver for at least another 20. No decanting necessary.

A really superb Shiraz - exactly what you cross your fingers and hope for when dealing with this grape - fruit (and lots of it) but with the right amount of acidity to tie it all together. Dark berries, licorice and a touch of dust / earth on the nose; big bold and straight up the nostrils, but with finesse not brute force. Huge black fruit on the palate, raspberry / blackberry boiled sweets and jam - very full mouth, long satisfying and wet on the finish. Perhaps not the best Shiraz I've had, but not far off at all... Would HIGHLY recommend this not least because of its price. Maybe even better in a year or two.

This wine was stunning. It always amazes me how incredibly good a wine is when you try one of the top wines of that type. This wine was about integration and balance. The appearance was excellent, the aroma was excellent. It had earthy, minerally, tobacco and chocolaty smells. The taste was even throughout the beginning, mid, and end of a sip and the flavors moved from one to another with amazing grace. There was great mouthfeel and superb shiraz taste. Very berryful. The aftertaste was pleasant and lingered.

A great shiraz!! Oddly enough, given the name, it's far from the blackest shiraz I've seen...this has a deep ruby red to it. Beautiful nose of red and blue fruit, no trace of the high alcohol. A little more subtle than some of the blackest fruit bombs, this is all about balance. Utterly seamless, and without the gamey, meaty, peppery aspects of some shiraz. This was almost closer to a pinot, but without any astringency. Lack of complexity kept my score from being even higher.

Beautifully aged Australian Syrah. Very nice. But drink up now if you have some left.

Wow wine. Black pepper, blackberries, spices and earth. Long finish, balanced and enjoyable. A real steal of a value for what I paid for it.

This has improved with time and is aging slowly. This should drink well for at least another 5 years+. Same dark fruit and smooth finish. Excellent.

Dark and big, but monolithic and flabby. Not worth the $80 tag IMO. Found for $40 and probably won't buy again even at half-price.
