Loved this. It improved over the three days it was open suggesting it still has plenty in the tank. Not quite old school, but plenty of flavours in the stone fruit spectrum rather than the grapefruit side of things.

On the nose fine and elegant with white stone fruit, apples, lemon sorbet, slightly creamy, flinty. Quite precise and well balanced on the palate, fresh, mineral, rich, citrus fruit. Very good length, 90-92

Weekly tasting group #182; A fully blind test: White wines. (@ SB): Complex bouquet with white and yellow fruits, minerals, a firm dose of good oak and some rustic flavors. On the palate ripe yellow fruits, a firm dose of oak, some sweetness and also good acidity to back it up. Overall a full bodied and tasty wine spreading through the whole mouth. New world and really good.

Retailer tasting (Vianen): Beautiful minerals and smoke in the bouquet beside the mainly white fruits. Same on the palate. Some melon as well. Good acidity. Full bodied and some oak bitters in the finish. Excellent wine though.

This showed classic Chard notes of melon, lemon, acacia, pear, slight tropical notes with a hint of new vanilla oak; Medium rich mouthfeel with vibrant acidity, and reigned in alcohol. Very classy, balanced, refreshing Aussie chard with good zing. 90-91

Essence of creme brulee in the mouth - especially on the back palate. Tropical fruits, in particular pineapple. Generous alcohol that works well. Very new world and a great buy. Certainly outstanding tonight.

Delicious wine that drinks like a liquid creme brulee. Sweet toasty oak, plenty of vanilla and cream fruit add up to a new world wine of excellent depth and flavour, if not the ultimate in complexity. Very new world.

Suave, new world, highish alcohol and beautifully textured wine. The finish possibly feels a little shallow compared to the dimensions suggested by the front and mid palate but this is very good wine that is drinking well now and has a lot of class.

BBQ with Lloyd and Cally (Ponsonby, Auckland, New Zealand): Great style - very new world yet layered with it, Lovely fruit sweetness, wonderful length and plenty of complexity. This is not a burgundy look a like but it demonstrates that chardonnay can convince in many guises.

Sauve guava, sweet oak, bright mealy top notes. In the mouth, smooth and refined texture, seamless oak handling - very ripe, peaches and cream style but excellent length (30 plus seconds) and authority. Alcohol of 14% completely in balance. Drinks very well now due to its smooth texture and ripeness but should age well under stelvin.

Bright honeydew melon and tropical fruit on the nose. Bright, lively lemon and peach fruit, lots of acidity, subdued oak. This is a different kind of chardonnay that just works. It was great on its own and even better with crab cake.

Well oaked new world Chardonnay. On the nose quite pungent oak dominates. Well made modern wine but perhaps not my favourite style.

Lemon and toasted hazelnut aromas, with a definite flintiness. Creamy lemon tart, firmly structured and balanced and a smooth finish. Delicious.
