A pungent, dry dose of minerality and tart citrus. This coming on the heals of a btl of Chablis, made the Chablis seem downright off dry if not sweet. Now, I'm exaggerating as Chablis is dry but this takes dry to whole new level. I enjoyed this wine but might prefer it a couple years younger, brighter and fresher.

I had this from a double magnum and loved it. Only 12% alcohol, according the label. It has a bracing acidity and a nice touch of fruit. Easy drinking, it went really well with Oysters. I didn't notice any "green" notes that WA mentioned in its review.

Not without reason this is one of the best entry Level estate Rieslings in Germany. It has all it needs: Ínteresting, medium intense nose with notes of slate and fruit, dry with a bit of residual sugar, good acidity, not too much alcohol (12% abv), nice fruit. Drinks nicely right now, but can Age for several more years and will maybe improve a bit. Very good wine to either drink with food or stand alone.

Tasted as part of the Germany 'vs' Italy joint tasting. A joint efforts between two local wine merchants. Light straw yellow, bright colour, fresh white flower nose with subtle lime and citrus aromas with just a hints of mineral. Light and off dry palate, with nice fruity expression of lime, citrus and green apple. It has surprisingly good richness on palate at this level. Medium finish. A really nice simple quaffer with or without food.

Rieslingfeier Riesling Crawl (New York City, NY): Super reduced nose, even though we were at the end of the bottle by the time I reached it. Not too concentrated, with good fresh citrus character. Light.

Van Volxem Tasting (Park Palace, Grand Park Hotel): I really enjoyed this. Like the 2011 entry level Saar that preceded it, it was both really pretty and immediately appreciable, yet with enough substance to make it interesting. Again, this had a pretty nose, with exuberant notes of chamomile and white flowers along with stone fruit and a spritz of zesty scents. Really pretty. I liked the palate too, with its notes of chamomile floating about nectarines and apricots, with a little sprinkle of spice and mineral. All held together by sprightly acidity. It had a pretty floral finish as well. I think the 2011 was probably a little more together, with a nicer balance and integration to it, but this was really pleasant in its own right. Enjoyable.

At a Van Volxem tasting event. Light yellow. Expressive nose of minerals, petrol and mint. On the palate it cannot quite follow up on the nice nose. Lacks mid mouth energy and presence for it to score beyond table wine quality.

first bottle form 2012, in direct comparison to 2011. To much maracuja right now, little bit artificial. The 2011 in comparison is very balanced with a great nose and a touch of honey. But this is still early, lets wait for another year for this vintage.

Enjoyed via PnP this wine showcased brilliantly pure and inviting aromatics, but was just way too acidic, imbalanced and even a bit hot on the palate to be really enjoyable. On the day after it (still) smells like pieces of slate bathing in a bowl full of lime juice. Some sour grapefruit and kiwi in there also, perhaps. The acidity has toned down and the mouthfeel gotten a bit fleshier, resulting in a wine much less painful, perhaps even enjoyable to some. I still feel like it's like so many Mosel trockens: a bit too tight and austere.Yes it's fresh and vibrant and in a way attractive for its flinty character but I would not want to drink more than a glass without food. Who knows, maybe this will develop into something when years go by but somehow I don't think that's what the producer meant. It's kind of like Keller von der Fels without the airiness and the deliciousness.

Colour: Light yellow with green reflections. Nose: Fresh & clean. White flowers alongside white peach, pineapple and maracuya but also a very nice mineral component which you will rarely find in wines at this price. Palate: Racier, dry Riesling with a good structured middle-body with good power and a lot of freshness. Nice finish where you can really find this intens slate flavour.
Very good wine at this QPR if you like Riesling, I would highly recommend you to check this stuff out.

Howard Ripley 2012 German Tasting (London): Pre-release sample. Stony, citrus aromas; almost Chablis-like. This has a tight citrus core and finely sculpted mineral precision. Precise and machine-like: Vorsprung durch Technik. Great stuff. 16.5/20.

Still great after 10 years! Very round, great nose, primary tropical fruit gone, very creamy instead but still enough power

NOSE > Lemon/grapefruit-oil, crushed-rock, rich/oily/lime-flesh, nectarine/tart-nectarine/tart-apricot, starfruit, lavender, licorice,
steely/smoky-sage, beeswax, & potpourri.
Pungent, aromatic, steely, stony & flowery.
PALATE > Big, taut, lean & rich. Off-dry.
Lime-flesh, grapefruit, lime-oil, stony/slatey minerality, citrus-pith, blood-orange, rose-petal, flint, & tart-apricot.
Spicy, stony, sappy. Slightly better than medium intensity. Excellent length. Finish & aftertaste lime-zest, tart-apricot, crushed-rock.
Just a bit leaner, tighter, & more elegant than the Schiefer. Opened up significantly over 24 hrs.
Cannot really consider this entry-level Riesling.

Van Volxem Tasting with Roman Niewodniczanski (Praelum Wine Bar): Sweet honeycomb nose. I get peaches and ripe fruits. Tad sweet on the palate but with short finihs. Richer than the 2011.
