  • Slowly after breakfast, following a splash of champaign and quiche! This couple really knows how to do it. Initially an appealingly sweet bouquet that evolved dramatically over an hour: florals, teriyaki, surprisingly fresh fruit. The palate was defined by beautiful interplay between a lovely vein of acidity and a rolling and vacillating gentleness of silky fruit. Minutes on the delicate finish.

  • A bit of funk. Earthy. Needed a bunch of air to wake up. Had a distinctive iron component to it that made us think of Pommard. Not an elegant or refined wine. A bit rustic. I should have decanted it, but at that age I was afraid to.

  • Purchased in 2019 direct from chateau library release through North Berkeley. Did not decant. Awkward nose at first, a hint of black olive but beautiful medium garnet color with only slight bricking defying it’s age. Fairly fresh with good acidity and ample cherry fruit. Sous bois and Asian spice. Resting in glass, it evolved and became rich and more textured, with even more fruit! What a nice surprise. I have 3 more. Can’t wait. Might decant next one. Highly recommended.

  • Ex domaine. As others have noted, Remoissenet has an extensive collection of old vintages in its caves, and since Halpern and Jadot have taken control of the estate, with Bérnard Repolt as GM, more of these old bottles have been released to market. These bottles are direct from the domaine and have been sitting, undisturbed, for decades in the library caves. New labels are applied upon release, and the bottles have generally been recorked at 30-35 years. Thus, this bottle was exceptionally fresh and vibrant, while simultaneously displaying the characteristic mature flavors. An hour or so decant is sufficient to bring out the best in this wine, which continues to evolve in the glass.

  • Allegedly a "found" bottle at the domaine, appears to have been recorked and labeled for sale recently. Normally I'd be wary of this but I trust the importer and very, very few wines achieve this level of aromatic depth and complexity. A brilliant mix of aged complexity and crunchy fresh fruit, I kept a bit in my glass all evening and it continued to deliver all kinds of herbal, savory, sweet nuance that was a delight to revisit.

  • Musique & Vin Festival BYO Dinner with Musicians (1243 Bourgogne Society - Beaune): Small glass, brief note. Very interesting, very enjoyable, especially for the vintage.

  • Got this bottle via Sommselect so i was quite confident in the bottle condition. I was expecting a old tired wine with very delicate flavors but once i opened the bottle nothing could be further from that. The wine is still quite vibrant and rich with high complexity. The acid is perfectly pitched, tannins fully resolved. Due to the richness and vibrant acidity, i would not have guessed that the wine was as old as 1967 if i had tasted this blind. Although you can hold this longer I would personally say the time to drink is now. It is in such a nice place.

  • Simply amazing. Story is winemaker found many old bottles in their family cellar dating back to the 40s. Has cleaned them up and is slowly releasing them. I can't tell you how fresh this wine tasted. It's a testament to laying still and calm in a cellar for so many years. I wonder how many of the "old bottles" out there how traveled are they? How many times has the temperature changed, they bounced along the highway and had other stress. This was very special and truly amazing for me. It was a birth year wine that I was fortunate was shared with me.

  • Appearance: Clear, Lt/Med Intensity, Lt Garnet
Nose: Clean, Med(+) Intensity, Red Berries (Strawberry/Raspberry) with Tertiaries apparent, Fully developed and in latter transitional stage
Palate: Dry, Med(-) Acidity/Tannins/Alc, Medium Body, Medium Flavor Intensity, Strawberry/Raspberry/Cherry, Evolving Layers of Tertiaries (Mushroom, Forest Floor, smoky, meat) over 2-3 hours in the glass, Med(+) finish
A very good example of an aged Volnay from a mixed/challenging vintage, still drinking well with fruit present but fading to tertiaries - 3-5 year drinking window remains, but best now.
Drank with Roast Wild Salmon, Cauliflower Puree, Flash sautéed Asparagus tips - Cauliflower Puree complemented well and accented the savoury characteristics of the wine. Evolved beautifully & interestingly over 2-3 hours revealing layers of different tertiary characteristics with subdued fruit remaining present. Structure - tannins, acid, alcohol - very refined, but significantly present to support the nose and palate characteristics throughout. Served alongside a 2009 Dom. Michel Lafarge Volnay Clos du Chateau des Ducs - beautiful wine - which offered a nice, contrasting example of a younger, more fruit present Volnay - fun and interesting to go back-and-forth between the younger and older wine and experience both as they evolved in the glass.
