  • Slowly after breakfast, following a splash of champaign and quiche! This couple really knows how to do it. Initially an appealingly sweet bouquet that evolved dramatically over an hour: florals, teriyaki, surprisingly fresh fruit. The palate was defined by beautiful interplay between a lovely vein of acidity and a rolling and vacillating gentleness of silky fruit. Minutes on the delicate finish.

  • A bit of funk. Earthy. Needed a bunch of air to wake up. Had a distinctive iron component to it that made us think of Pommard. Not an elegant or refined wine. A bit rustic. I should have decanted it, but at that age I was afraid to.

  • Purchased in 2019 direct from chateau library release through North Berkeley. Did not decant. Awkward nose at first, a hint of black olive but beautiful medium garnet color with only slight bricking defying it’s age. Fairly fresh with good acidity and ample cherry fruit. Sous bois and Asian spice. Resting in glass, it evolved and became rich and more textured, with even more fruit! What a nice surprise. I have 3 more. Can’t wait. Might decant next one. Highly recommended.

  • Ex domaine. As others have noted, Remoissenet has an extensive collection of old vintages in its caves, and since Halpern and Jadot have taken control of the estate, with Bérnard Repolt as GM, more of these old bottles have been released to market. These bottles are direct from the domaine and have been sitting, undisturbed, for decades in the library caves. New labels are applied upon release, and the bottles have generally been recorked at 30-35 years. Thus, this bottle was exceptionally fresh and vibrant, while simultaneously displaying the characteristic mature flavors. An hour or so decant is sufficient to bring out the best in this wine, which continues to evolve in the glass.

  • Allegedly a "found" bottle at the domaine, appears to have been recorked and labeled for sale recently. Normally I'd be wary of this but I trust the importer and very, very few wines achieve this level of aromatic depth and complexity. A brilliant mix of aged complexity and crunchy fresh fruit, I kept a bit in my glass all evening and it continued to deliver all kinds of herbal, savory, sweet nuance that was a delight to revisit.
