Tannins pretty resolved. Still a lovely bouquet. Just more reserved overall than the last time I enjoyed it. I don’t have enough experience with aged nebbi to say with confidence that it’s past peak or in a quiet period or I didn’t let it open long enough. but my gut says “past peak”. 89-90

From magnum and absolutely stunning right now. Amazing complexity on the nose without straying into the heavy tobacco character that I am not such a fan of and then silky and supple on the palate. Top notch deliciousness. Drink or hold in magnum.

Great vintage, tasted out of mag. Smoking right now, pronounced earth and sour cherry, light, elegant, tannins are softer and the wine liners for a while. Showing well.

Tasting at Marchesi di Gresy (Barbaresco): Pale ruby, tawny edge. Pine resin aromatics and not as floral as the '11 Martinenga. Bigger and rounder than that wine. Ripe cherry, chocolate, and saddle leather. Nice sweetness of fruit. Accessible but good acidity, moderate tannins. Substantially resolved at this point, so while still vigorous, it can be drunk with pleasure. Not as woody as nose suggests, but definitely modern. Lovely aftertaste. I liked this quite a bit despite it being the oakiest wine we tasted.

Marchesi di Grésy Visit (Barbaresco, Italy): Crimson core with larger pale rim; pretty, elegant nose, warm rose, some orange rind, sour cherry, some vanilla; slight medicinal on the palate, great mid palate, sweet cherry and roses, more elegant; very good but will definitely get stronger with more time.

more of an herbal lift on the nose relative to the 09 basic Martinenga. more sandlewood too the aromas as well. aged entirely in small barrel. 6 acre plot dedicated to Gaiun.

Black fruit, tar, some menthol aromas. Lots of anise and black licorice. A dark aspect. Chewy and spice on the palate. Kernel palate. Dark red fruit palate. Earthy dark oak.

Vindredi (Bellevue, WA): Tasted blind. Sweet cherry, wood spice, and leather on the nose. Medium plus body backed by red fruits and dried cherries. The mid-palate gives way to medium tannins, that trail off with great length and balanced acidity.

Tasted blind. Brighter fruit than others in this flight, strong tannins, and coffee/leathery finish. Darker overall feel than #4 (which turned out to be an '05 La Spinetta Gallina). Some fun popcorn/butter notes. My rank: 3/4 Group rank: 3/4

From magnum. Not as soaringly beautiful as last time but served in little bitty glasses. Took some time to open up too so I think hold.

Summa15 Day 2 (Magré (Margreid), Alto Adige, Italy): Pretty rose, see through, onion skin rim; high toned oak, pretty rose on the nose, cedar, mint; larger but more feminine than I am use to for Gaiun.

Finessed and with a great core of fruit...but whoa that tannin, and it's oak tannin, too, so who knows how this will feel when the fruit matures.
