Currant, red fruit and earthy flavors, drinking nicely although no time better than the present to drink up. Paired with burgers on the grill on a nice spring night.

Needed several hours to come around. Aromas of sweet plums, and good amount of cedar, black fruits. More on the palate along with blueberry jam and raisins. Very rich still with good mouth feel. A delicious wine and still good to go for a while longer. Very impressed with many of these older Von Strasser cabs.

Drinking really well. Dark berry fruit, cedar. Slight beeswax note. Extremely balanced mid palette and finish. Ends with a bit of tannic structure that shows this could go a few to several more years.

Dark cherry, herb, cedar, anise and pepper flavors, medium bodied. Just a bit short on the finish, but otherwise a nice wine. Drinking very nicely. Disagree with reviewer who said it may be over the hill -- lots of life left in my bottle.

Nose was straight up cab with currant, and cedar going on. On the palate there was currant fruit, cedar, a little black pepper on the tail. I thought the palate tailed off towards the end, but I don’t think anyone else sensed that.

Wine-Soaked Weekend at Baker's Mill (Baker's Mill - Appomattox, VA): really liked this cab. lots of fruit, but solid structure. age has given this a bit of craked pepper, leather and cedar flavors. still a young wine that could have quite a few more years in front of it.

Not a hint of age on the color, loads of tannins that still needs to be worked out. Great structure. Nice dark fruit. First hour bell peppper and a peppercorn on the finish. Second hour cedar and graphite. Would love to revisit this wine wine five years but I'm out.

Still youthful color. Nose is faint with some black fruit, currant and spice. Palate is more elegant in style, light red fruit, nice acidity, falls a little short. Not what I remember from this producer, but not surprised given the vintage.

Very well made. Rely on elegance rather than power. It was a pleasure to follow this wine in the glass along dinner. Dark ruby core showing no signs of evolution. Dark fruits on the nose with some coffee and light smoke notes. Firm tannins, med acidity, med + body, cassis and blueberry, coffee/tobacco and hint of licorice. Nice finish with a light bell pepper notes.

Beautiful balanced wine. This wine has classic CA cab flavors with well integrated oak. Nice slight herbalness upon opening. Cassis, smoke, plum, cherries on the nose. Softens and sweetens with time. Well intrgrated acidity and well intrated/balanced tannins. Some bittersweet chocolate notes over time. Mabe some leather notes as well. While not the finest CA a cab ever, a very good attempt for the price. There are many wine out there for much more money, but the same or less in terms of flavor. A hit at this table!

Got better as it opened up, but the first impression was of chewing an oak chip. By the end of the bottle, it was a good drink with nice balance, but nothing that I'd hunt down to try again. 88 out of the bottle, maybe a point + better after an hour. Good, but not a value.

Shared half bottle at dinner. Great wine. Every time I drink one of these top CA cabs I wonder why I try so many other wines. Big classic cabernet dark purple, violet and leather nose, followed by spice and well-integrated tannin. Excellent.

Wine Country August 2001: Barrel Sample - Blend of Cabernets from five Diamond Mountain vineyards. Pleasant nose, good color. Brighter fruit that leans more toward raspberry. Lively mouthfeel. Great mouth presence, but somewhat acidic. Quite tannic.

Wine Country August 2001: Barrel Sample - This wine has been blended. Inky dense color. Blueberry, currant, toasted bread, pencil lead smoky. Sweet concentrated and long. Like it.

disappointing and over the hill, however I will give it some time to open and see if it improves. Sad this wine did not hold up

Dark berry fruit, some spice. Not quite as deep in the finish as we like. Definitely not over the hill though (and ours was a 375ml).

currant, cedar, black pepper. Medium finish, medium body. Not particularly exciting; I think it's over the hill.

Saturday @ Baker's Mill; 6/6/2010-6/7/2010 (Baker's Mill - Appomattox, VA): Lots of currants and spicebox on the nose. The fruit was quite pure here with very juicy red and black fruits mixed with a bouquet of lillies, lilacs, and roses. The floral aspect of this wine really jumped out at me.
