  • Invino said try this with your best spaghetti and meatballs recipe. Close enough: I was making a very casual, comfort-food baked rigatoni with organic Niman Ranch Italian sausage and Baby Bella mushrooms. I popped the cork about the time I tossed the noodles in the oven, so it ended up with about an hour or so of air. I didn't sip any before dinner, and the tannins are still a bit firm as I'm sipping some after dinner - but Invino called it, this thing just sang with our pasta bake. If my notes are right, and I only paid $14 for this gem ... I'm glad I have a few more.

  • On the nose, rustic , earthy, barnyard, figs, soy, fennel, tea, roasted characteristics. On the palate, sweet upfront, nimble, medium acidity. Short on the finish. Not as rich and concentrated as the piano di montevertine riserva which was tried at the same time. Great QPR.

  • Aromatic nose of berries and minerals. Dark cherry and blackberry fruit, cedary tannins, a nice minerality and hints of tobacco. Lovely lingering finish. It has that dry yet luscious quality you often find in S. Italian reds. Very nice, and amazing QPR for $13.

  • Colour: Deep red, sediments in the glass. Smell is lovely and interesting, but the alcohol is too dominant. The wine is very dry, with nice tannins. Leather, dirt, dark red fruits. A great wine with personality.

  • Fruitier finish that I am accustomed to, so I am am surprised I like it. Overall a good value for an everyday drinking wine

  • Medium ruby-garnet, the color of drying blood. On the nose, it is immediately earthy and rustic, with notes of raw meat, smoke, dirt, pepper, old supple leather, and burning leaves. But there is fruit, too, mostly sour cherry, both fresh and dried. Also some tea and just a hint of sweet herb, maybe oregano or thyme. Something slightly roasted about it. I just love the nose on this. So expressive and “of the earth.” On the palate, it’s a nice medium weight with a whollop of tannin that gives a very firm impression but isn’t overwhelming due to its velvety texture. The cherry fruit is very pure, and the herbal and earthy flavors come clearly through. Great balance both structurally and in flavor profile. This is just really impressive, delicious wine. Hard to get anything better for this kind of money. I’ve had this twice now and this is the rare, rare instance where I might buy more of the same thing. Love it.

  • Dark to medium ruby, big bouquet of cranberry, blackberry, black cherry, cassis, tobacco, strong mineral streaks and earthy undertones, loads of cherry fruit on the attack followed by gripping acidity, dark fruits, black tea and dry tannins, finish is layered with licorice, mocha, cherry and more, excellent QPR

  • WSET Level 3 Class.

Clear, medium garnet. Clean, medium(+)-intensity, developing nose, with aromas of lavender, tobacco, black tea, earth/mulch, leather, and black cherry. Dry on the palate, medium body, medium(+) intensity, medium(+) tannin, medium acid, medium alcohol, and a flavor profile to match the nose plus plum and black raspberry. Long finish. Very good, can drink now but will improve, high price.

  • excellent. I decanted this, and it worked wonders on the tough tannins.

  • The wine is clear and bright with a medium ruby colour and presence of legs. The nose is clean and developing, showing medium intensity aromas of black fruits (dark plums, black cherries), lavender, anise, black pepper, cedar and generic oak notes. The wine is dry in the mouth with a medium acidity. It has high coarse tannins and a medium(+) alcohol. It has a full body and medium(+) intensity flavours of black fruits (dark plums, black cherries), lavender, anise, black pepper, cedar and generic oak notes. The finish is long.

It is a very good quality wine. It has a lingering finish, a very nice fruit concentration and it shows some degree of complexity provided by oak ageing, floral and spicy notes. However a bit more of flavour intensity would balance better its solid tannic structure. Can drink now, but it has enough tannic structure and fruit concentration to develop more complex tertiary aromas over the next 3-5 years.

  • High acidity and a lot of fruit bodes well for further cellaring, is drinkable now but could use some time, tannins quite rough.

  • strange aglianico from my experience as this wine lacked any texture or presence. wine was more thinly styled, more apparent warmer climate w a brightness from the alcohol. not my style and not the more rustic, earthy, solid mouthfeel style aglianco that has made me a fan.

  • A little too much alcohol on the nose but this a warm-fruited wine that actually presents some freshness. I cannot make of my mind if it comes mostly from the acidity or the backbone of tannins but I am most likely to choose the latter. Better on day 2 when everything seems much more intergrated. 6 months or a year would do it some good I think. Drink it with some food on the heavier side. A very good buy at 10 bucks.

  • Very nice, satisfying wine for the price....bright cherry and a kind of savory, meaty, slightly spicy and tarry quality though not as much as with the Irpinia Aglianicos. Medium-bodied with good flavor and persistence.
Be warned that it took about an hour to open up and was much improved on the second day - good to open it in advance.
