Berry, plumb, black cherry notes. Popped and poured. Deep in color with medium-full bodied finish. Tannins have settled and this is good to go. Drink over next 3-5.

A nice example from the Uco Valley region. This wine took an hour plus to open and get it's full expression. An inviting nose, like Grandma's kitchen, with aromas of blueberry pie and baking spices, as well as cedar. Pleasing pallet of dominant blackberry fruit, baking spices, woody herbs, black pepper and cedar. The finish is smooth with resolved tannins. An interesting pairing with a potpourri of items from my freezer.

Hasn't changed much over the last couple of years, and that's a good thing. Cherries, sage, spices, dusty tannins, and a long finish. So good. Need to move out that "drink by" date at least a couple of years.
Dark purple color, aromas of blueberry, brush, and menthol. Flavors of dried blueberry and blackberry with cocoa and espresso on the finish. nice soft powdery tannins with a touch of acidity that brighten the flavors, nice balance. Coming along nicely, in the zone.

dark garnet color precede pleasant aromas of cedar and wet earth. full bodied, but not heavy, lead in to a blackberry mash up-front followed by mild prune, and dark baking chocolate, and some tobacco on the medium long finish. Definitely got some time left to improve, good now, but better between 2019 - 2022. Can't wait to try the next in 2019!

Two hour decant, this is a big dark fruit and oaked up affair that has good enough structure to keep it enjoyable. Chocolate and earth notes are blended in with a solid tannic structure that delivers a medium length finish.

Popped and poured. This was the surprise of the night. In the glass, the wine was dark garnet bordering purple and quite a bit lighter that I expected; very pretty. Aromas of dark fruit, spice and a pleasant touch of horse blanket (brett?!) which again, was really unexpected. On the palate this was dark fruit, spice, and earth. Tannins were still firm. Nice touch of acid. Balanced. Very pleasantly long finish. Would definitely buy again. Drink Now or Hold

Double decanted and served after about an hour with grilled steak. While this is a good malbec, I am not as impressed with it as some of the reviewers. Medium purple color, full nose of blackberries, wood and spice with relatively soft round tannins, partly due to the fruit over riding the tannins. Not a long finish, but pleasant. Wine may be much better in a couple of years, and I look forward to trying the remainder of the bottle the next day.
The bottle was somewhat better the next day. More plums than blackberries, improved mid-range and finish. An enjoyable wine.

Ordered off the list at City Winery, NYC, to accompany Jackie Greene. With JZ, PZ and Luca, and it was Luca's first concert, so this was for him (and so was Jackie's playing "Follow that Gorilla"). Anyway, this was good for its lean palate, and it was thankfully not a ripe, blueberry, excessively oaky Malbec, but was more tapered and had some bitterness to the finish. Not bad, not great.

Mendoza Malbec (SF Wine Trading Company): Medium ruby with some clearing (more normal looking than the superdense Mendel). Some sulfide makes the nose hard to discern. Lighter weight, more supple and airy than most of these wines. Less ripeness, redder quality fruit, enlivening acidity, herbal complexity, and quite grippy tannins suggest the need for further aging. Very Bordeaux-like and a relief after some of the bigger specimens. I found this so much more interesting than most of the other wines sampled.

Blackberry on the nose with herbal and floral notes. Medium body and acidity that has quite a silky texture for a Malbec, without any heat from the alcohol. Incredibly well-balanced on the palate, however, the wine is quite subdued and inexpressive. Perhaps it's too young? Decanted for a couple of hours.
