  • Vino Loco says:

2/14/2022 10:50:00 AM - Hi GB - I signed up for the event at Lucky's and will hopefully see you there!

  • Canoehead says:

12/6/2021 11:09:00 AM - GB - we'll definitely post a Tasting Story. Maybe in 2022 we get to meet over a glass of wine sometime.

  • Canoehead says:

12/4/2021 3:23:00 PM - GB - we have filled the tasting table for this event. We'll keep you in mind for future tastings down in Victoria. Cheers!

  • Canoehead says:

11/26/2021 9:07:00 AM - GB - we are back on with a Meritage tasting the afternoon of Dec 11. I understand you have weekend family obligations but just seeing if that date and time work for you?

  • Canoehead says:

9/10/2021 8:25:00 AM - GB - FYI: we are going to postpone the Sep18 wine tasting given where the province is trending right now and as much as I believe wine tastings are essential they're really not. Probably looking at Oct 23 or 30. Let me know if either of those Saturdays will work for you to come down to Victoria

  • Canoehead says:

8/11/2021 12:49:00 PM - Hopefully we can make a date work in the future for a wine tasting on the island somewhere! Look for the tasting notes and story. Cheers!

8/9/2021 12:07:00 PM - Gustavo, hope you're having a good summer. I wanted to let you know that our wine group is beginning to plan a tasting on the afternoon of Saturday September 18. The theme will be 2015 Meritage & Bordeaux red blends of high quality. There are two conditions of attendance, you must bring a wine that fits the theme category and you must be fully vaccinated. I will be hosting at our home in Victoria and there will be nibbles provided. Let me know if you're interested in attending. We're trying to keep this to a manageable group of 6-7. You'll need to ensure you drink responsibly and have arranged for safe transportation.

7/3/2021 4:30:00 PM - Hi Gus! That '14 Nota Bene is drinking so well right now and will likely sing like this for at least 2/3 more years before making the turn. So...you have time, my friend.

  • KillerJones says:

10/9/2020 5:27:00 PM - Many thanks for the tip, Gustavo! Just scored a case - what a deal here...I owe you one.

  • KillerJones says:

9/4/2020 5:07:00 PM - You drink well, my friend! A '10 Castiglion del Bosco is a special treat. Let me know if you source any '15 Brunello this year.

  • Canoehead says:

8/17/2020 1:20:00 PM - I'll give you a heads up when I hear about the next EW Vintages sale or sales anywhere else on the Island.

  • Canoehead says:

8/17/2020 11:59:00 AM - Don't know if you saw my response a few days back so I decided to post on your profile page - Just back from off-the-grid cabin.. GVWM is Grand Vin Wine Merchants in Olympia, WA - some of the best prices in PacNW. THey also warehouse your order until you're ready to pick it up. We also have friends in the region who cellar our wine for us - I'm missing ome of my babies right now! Vintage Wines in San Diego, CA - very good pricing as well and a staff member "srh" who reviews copious amounts of wine and posts TNs here on CT. I have the wine shipped to a friend nearby. Unwined in Edmonton, AB - sadly no longer in business. Has transitioned to a whisky/ey boutique. Had some great prices and run by a great team. In BC, we're cursed as you know by ridiculous distribution control and higher taxes. BC wines are the only category that are priced relatively fairly. I keep my eyes out for the the Everything Wine annual Vintages Room sale when prices are reduced materially and there is another 5% off for mixed cases. The only Island location is in Langford.

  • Canoehead says:

7/27/2020 1:38:00 PM - Right back atcha, fellow Island wine enthusiast! Phonetically, your handle sounds like you're trying to tell Kelowna it can go stuff itself but hey that's how wine has affected my faculties! As for a great priced, full bodied BC Red, see if you can find Skaha 2015 Merlot at your local private wine shop of Save On Foods wine section (there's one in Parksville right?). After taxes you're hitting about $28 but its worth it!Our wine group ordered a total of 17 cases from them in the last year.

3/3/2020 1:19:00 PM - Great. See you Thursday at 4:30ish. I will be the guy with grey hair and no suit (I am retired after all).

  • hjjvr says:

2/29/2020 4:31:00 PM - How about meeting at Browns Social House? Seems like a reasonable place for a first date. How does next Thursday or Friday at around 4:30 (to take advantage of their social hour) suit you? Will your wife come? My wife says she will come if you bring your wife. If these dates or times are not good, by all means suggest alternatives.

  • hjjvr says:

2/26/2020 6:42:00 PM - Checked out the Hammond Bay Liquor Store and found the 2016 Sassacaia. Too rich for me. Being recently retired, I rarely go beyond double digits. Actually, even before I retired, I rarely went beyond double digits. Nevertheless, this seems to be an interesting store. I will definitely go back. Having said all that, one of the best wines that I have ever had was a 1982 Sassacaia a couple of years ago. A friend has a very good cellar and shared a bottle. I would very much like to get together for a glass or two (or three or four) of wine. Maybe sometime in the next couple of weeks? Let me know what you think. Can you suggest a good wine bar at which to meet? Maybe one with a BYOB policy>

2/24/2020 6:57:00 PM - I just recently moved to Nanaimo from Edmonton. My wines are still in Edmonton. The wine situation in BC (and especially Nanaimo) sucks. The two stores in Nanaimo that I use the most are: Landing and Wellington. Are there any better ones?

9/12/2019 8:59:00 PM - Fcolonna, I haven’t tried it yet, but I have very much enjoyed previous vintages, and it is a pretty decent price. The other day, I scored some 2016 Beaucastel CDP, which I was pretty happy about. I thought I had missed it because I was away, but it looks like the BCLDB released a second batch. Beaucastel is my favorite CDP. Sorry for taking so long to respond to you, I need to get my act together. Take care for now...

6/26/2019 6:54:00 AM - I believe both ship to Canada and around the world, Or, set up a Seattle Mailbox and ship there and pick up when convenient.

  • bestdamncab says:

6/25/2019 6:50:00 AM - Thank you for becoming a fan of my Tasting Notes. Do you buy at auction like I do with Bentwood wine and Winebid?

  • bottledpoetry says:

2/3/2019 7:20:00 PM - Hi fcolonna - Sorry for the delay in responding - been on the road. We’re honoured and excited that you’ve invited us to your tastings and would love to participate. The only possible catch is we might be out of town when you have the tasting, but we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it. I guess the other catch is how to communicate directly without posting our contact details for every spammer on the internet to harvest. Ideas?

12/9/2018 10:06:00 AM - Glad to have you as a friend, pal.....have traveled to Whistler to ski A LOT over the years. Beautiful country you have up there....btw, did anybody ever tell you that you look a lot like Keith Richard??? jk, lol......cheers! Mark

7/1/2018 12:10:00 AM - You’re right, I got lazy with my tasting notes. I am doing fairly well, but was recently diagnosed with MS. It kind of hits me on the fatigue side of things. I’ve been buying less wine lately, but I have stated to drink some of my better stuff. I drank a 2007 Beaucastel Hommage CDP the other night, some stunning port, a bunch of CDPs, some great Two Hands (Ares and Bella’s Garden). I need to do an inventory of the cellar, because I have been negligent in tracking consumption. Have a great Summer!!!

3/19/2018 6:55:00 AM - Hi there. You left a comment on a note of 2011 Felsina Berardenga Chianti Classico dated on 11/29/2015. The date of the tasting note is correct. Just curious why you were asking. Thanks.

  • scott w says:

5/9/2016 6:56:00 PM - Was reading one of your notes on a wine that I have and noticed that you are from Nanaimo, good lord I have not been up their in 30 years! what a beautiful place, hope you find some reasonably priced wines...I need to get up your way again, maybe this summer.

  • bottledpoetry says:

10/19/2015 7:19:00 AM - To answer your very valid question, my wife and I find the best and most interesting wines in BC coming from Mike and Matt at Sedimentary Wines (http://www.sedimentarywines.com). They are a Vancouver based wine importer that focuses on smaller, high quality producers in France and Italy. Most of the wines are organic/biodynamic and all have been impressive. Now since Sedimentary are importers and not retail, people like you and me can't buy from them directly. So I have been working with local wine stores to special order their wines in. If you live in Nanaimo, Cheryl at Liquor Depot and Diane at Wellington Wines are both very helpful with this.

4/5/2015 6:19:00 PM - To all all people living in British Columbia. Where do you buy most of your wine?

  • complextra says:

11/28/2012 1:33:00 PM - Thanks Eric, 8k bottles! Nice! Congratulations on the new site. It's usability is great!

  • Eric says:

11/28/2012 11:12:00 AM - Frank, you wrote on my wallboard and asked about my cellar. Right now the messages aren't threaded, so you don't get a notification of my reply. My cellar can physically hold about 8,000 bottles, although right now I only have about 3,000. I hope to fill it someday, but I have cut back on buying a great deal over the past four years.
