This was another great Margaret River chardonnay, somewhat put in the shade by the Art Series that we had the same evening. Still wonderfully balanced, with the spicy oak providing the backbone.

Last Tuesday Supper Club (One Penny Red, Summer Hill): Oak, butter, peach, struck match; almost bacon fat. it lacks acidity after the tumbarumba offering, fruit is beginning to fade a touch; still some peach and almost pineapple drops, butter, a little oak. Hmm.

Really impressive, light golden colour, rich nose but still fresh and not over-oaked. Balanced and popular around the table even from those not been so partial to Chardonnay. Excellent wine but at £40 a bottle in the UK there is certainly better value from France for comparable quality. A good example is Olivier Leflaive Oncle Vincent Bourgogne at £20! That said, good to see Aussie Chardonnay really can compete favorably and has moved away from excessive use of oak.

Second bottle from my case. Just as impressed with this bottle as the first if not more so. The balance in this wine is what really stands out. The fruit has been picked at precisely the right moment. The oak underpins the structure, and the acidity rounds off the whole experience. It has quite a long lingering finish where the balance is maintained throughout. Yum.

After my Coravin fun earlier it was time for supper - Roast chook - and I decided on (yet another) Chardonnay to go with it. This time under screwcap. On the nose it's peaches & apricots with a squeeze of lemon, cream, butter, toasted oak and sweet spice and a tiny touch of minerality - lots' going on. In the mouth it tastes like slightly over-oaked good quality ripe chardonnay. It has a little acidic zing and plenty of the nose comes through, from a flavour perspective, on the palate. it's rather good. In the pantheon of wines I tried earlier I'd probably slot it between the 1er Cru and the Grand Cru (though the comparison isn't really fair because of the age difference)

At home over white pepper crab. Poured into decanter and drank over 1.5 hours. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, lemon colour with a youthful greenish tinge. Legs. Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of sweet vanilla cream and butter balanced with salty minerality, and citrus lemon fruit. Developing. On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of salty minerality, slight butter and vanilla, integrated nutty oak, citrus lemon, white peach, stone fruits. Medium+ finish. Very good quality oaked Chardonnay from Margaret River. Could still develop a little bit more over the next 3-4 years. But already very balanced and enjoyable now. Ticks all the boxes and with good citrus fruit packed in. Only gripe is the price point.

Fesq Trade Tasting (Custom House, Circular Quay, Sydney): Medium plus intensity aromas of peach and other stone fruits, cream, very slight butter and toasted oaks. Slight nutty hints here as well. In the mouth the wine is tangy with flavours of stone fruits, sweet spices, slight alcohol heat and touches of mid palate phenolic grip. Lovely.

Excellent, as expected. Mineral and slightly peachy nose. Palate is still very oak driven, although it is well integrated and nicely balanced by the acid and stone fruit flavours. Long full flavoured finish. A bit more time for the oak to settle down further and this will be a gorgeous wine. Really good Australian chardonnay.

Clear pale straw yellow with green tinge..
I agree with all the reviews bellow, not much to add really.. The balance is impeccable...
Lovely mix of lemon citrus, white peach, slight tropical passion fruit? flinty mineral, oatmeal and slight lees..
Surperb, right in it's drinking window for me now until 2020..

Just a really nice balance between acidity, oak and structure. This wine simply works. It feels like it has a good life in front of it as well.
