Pop and pour. Wrote note 30 minutes after being open. Aromas of dried cherry, strawberry, sassafras and a hint of cola. Flavors of strawberry, dried cherry, mushroom, earth and some other red fruits I can’t identify. Ends with 25-30 second finish with strawberry and dried cherry notes. This was a bit astringent at first but opened up up nicely. Still, I have had varying success with the Rochioli vineyard designates from Selyem. Getting worried about further aging potential.

A lighter style Pinot Noir for California. This took about forty-five minutes to open up after decanting off the lees. Still ruby colored with some lightening in the meniscus but no orange evident. The palate has earthy notes, sassafras, and rhubarb. the finish shows plenty of acidity and is medium in length. Still very good with no real sign of decay.

Good wine, but nowhere near the level that the hype or especially the price would suggest. Sonoma fruit, heat, and cola, no real elegance. At $20 I would buy again, maybe, but $75 at release makes this perhaps the worst value of the year for me.

This was my last bottle, drank past my previous recommendation, and yet I don't think it has peaked yet. Cherry melange, red apple skin, and strawberry rhubarb, but also some sawdust and subtle grapefruit inflected acids framing the finish. What some take to be burnt orange I find to be a manifestation of the sassafras terroir element common to RRV Pinot, the bottle age showing that this isn't really a young oak note, even if oak can artificially accentuate this, and it isn't everyone's cup cup of tea to begin with. Has a quintessential Williams-Selyem feel to whole package, and surprisingly unmoved over the years, with the primary fruit notes still holding court. 1/3 of the bottle left for day 2 is drinkable. Stored in a wine cabinet in a garage and therefore subject to temperature ranging from 49 to 60 across the years. Bought upon release direct from WS.

Still pretty fresh for a 10 year old. Lot's of plum and red fruit. Very little brick to the color. Downside of that freshness is there wasn't much in the way of tannin nor much complexity. Good acidity still on the back end. As others have noted, probably time to drink the rest of the vintage.

Interesting. PnP. Medium color, bit of bricking on edge..a bit. Bit of funk, bit of age on the nose. Kirsch on the nose. More aged nose than expected. A bit roasted on the palate. Surprising for 13.9 abv, but this was a warm vintage. Modest finish. An hour later, still kirsch on the nose. More resolved on the palate, but still a burnt element. Burnt orange. Long time W/S list member and fan, but not a big fan of this wine. Purchased straight from W/S and stored in cellar since.

PnP. Medium red. Berry nose. Medium weight on the palate, lovely balance, no tannins to resolve. RRV Pinot at age 10 has lost some of its youthful exuberance but has not developed significant secondary characteristics. The fruit is wonderful so drink it for what it is (not Burgundy).

Pop and pour and served with food (Vietnamese spring rolls, and chicken satay, in case you were wondering). Followed for about 3 hours both with food and on its own. Dark ruby color. Nose shows some brown spices and black cherries. Ripe black cherry fruit with a good fllow on of acidity. Leans towards the too ripe spectrum. Slightest hint of cherry cough syrup at first but that left after the wine had been opened for some time. The wine softened after a few hours of being opened. Enjoyable but not a wine that excites.

Black cherry color. Ripe, lush nose of forward black cherry and blackberry fruit, with underlying baking spice. In the mouth, forward and in your face, with ripe Pinot fruit that's classic Rochioli in style. The acidity has become almost fully integrated, giving the wine a touch of a flabby feel. Still delicious, just very up front. A-
Out of magnum- aged softness with nice sweet cherry fruit along with a lacy texture and a strong mineral streak. Finishes soft and not very complex. Tasty but better when it was younger and more fruit-driven.

On opening, this had aromas of asian spice (hoisin, clove), rose petal, and cola, with plummy / blackberry core. So far, so good. On tasting, very fruit forward, with cola notes, though a bit "sweet" and not quite in balance. Texture was fairly silky, however. Nevertheless, this wine seemed a bit disjointed, with an abrupt finish.
I left half the bottle for day 2, and while the nose and flavors persisted, the wine seemed more subdued and not that vibrant compared to opening. I doubt this will improve with bottle age.
I was expecting a bit more from this, given the hype surrounding W-S's 2007 vintage. On balance, while some of W-S's 2007's were winners, I have generally found the W-S 2007 single vineyard wines are somewhat disappointing.

Absolutely gorgeous right from the pop n pour. Bouquet just leaps out of the glass, lots of ripe fruit and spice. Velvety and round and just flat out sexy. As the finish lingered I had to keep going back to the nose. Expensive, but worth it. Drink or Hold.

Opened and poured, this wine gave an outstanding showing for it combination of expressive, detailed aromatics and balanced medium weight palate. This is most likely at or around its peak. At this stage the wine gives a combination of youthful and maturing notes. The wine (based on this showing) should continue to drink well over the 4 to 5 years.

Decanted 1 hour. Snazzy. Full bouquet of cherries, dark fruits, earth. On the palate, forward flavors of cherries and blackberries, earth, mushrooms, spices. Silky. Well balanced and integrated. Mis-entered these bottles, actually the Rochioli Riverblock. Definitely a nice bottle of pinot, but not overwhelmed for the price. Prefer the less expensive Sonoma Coast. Will give the other bottle of '07 at least a couple years before drinking it.

Wow! Decanted about an hour before going to the restaurant. Bright red color, very pleasing. Lots of red fruit on the nose, cherries, raspberries. Wonderful on the palate, with the same red fruit and some minerality and spice. Long finish. Tannins in evidence, but the wine was quite balanced. The chef at Bona Terra saw the bottle, and had our waitress inform us that he had some venison available, so we switched our orders. The pairing with this gutsy Pinot was perfect. Again, wow!

Cherry, mineral, stone, a hint of oak and smoke . . . and I really get the Wine Spectator review that described it as "creamy cherry." Very different, and unique in a good way. Not the bright acidic cherry fruit of so many Sonoma and RRV Pinots. Quite complex. Drinking well now.

Pinot Smackdown 2010 (Ken's, northbrook IL): nose: big and rich nose of sweet candied cherries, red fruits, tart tones of raspberries, berries and bits of cola. Good depth and a bit tight as well
taste: medium/full bodied with rich tones of candied cherries, cola, red fruits, and berries. Seems to be holding back a bit with some chewy tannins as well
overall: definitely on the young side, this can use some time to smooth out. A bit rough around the edges right now

I opened this for a California Pinot tasting on 4/20/10. It had an AWESOME bouquet of raspberry, cherry, boysenberry, cardamon, anise and spice aromas. The palate was balanced, but youthfully tight with flavors that follow the nose. It needs more time for the flavors to open up and rise to the full promise of the nose.

San Antonio Wine Geeks (The Home of Dave Lew): Big rich cola and cherry nose with subtle spice on top. Lush ripe mouthfeel, acidic with a tart cherry character and touch of herbal spices on the mid palate. Medium clipped finish seeming slightly thin. Seemed to be a pretty typical Cali style pinot, well made though not distinctive.

Took to Underbelly and it was a beautiful match with the pork chop. Cherry and cola flavors are to the fore with an earthy note underneath. I probably could have waited on this one but it was pretty darn good now.

We drank this immediately following the '06 (a 94) from the same vineyard. This one was much rougher around the edges although it improved by the minute in the glass.

The wine (based on this showing) should continue to drink well over the 4 to 5 years.

rose petals and earth on the nose; nice red and black cherry with some red currant that has length; opened up over dinner; good mineral, background oak and structure; despite all this stuffing, this has some lightness; very nice with upside.

Decanted 1 hour. Snazzy. Full bouquet of cherries, dark fruits, earth. On the palate, forward flavors of cherries and blackberries, earth, mushrooms, spices. Silky. Well balanced and integrated. A very nice wine. Youth still appears in ripe fruits, but well presented and wonderful now. A few more years though, if you enjoy more matured, settled flavors.

Decanted for an hour. Drank over the next 3 hours. Started off very simple, then the flavors started to come out after a little time. Very fruity and complete towards the end. Wait a few years for the next one.

I had this with my wifes enchiladas on 5/7/12. It was beautifully integrated, but not nearly as big as it was two years ago. The bouquet was deep and alluring with cherry, raspberry, anise, baking spice, smoke and cola aromas. The palate was beautifully balanced and integrated with flavors of black cherry, raspberry, baking spice, cola.

Decanted for 30 minutes at a restaurant. Aromas of sweet cherries, earth, mushroom and cola on the nose; cherries, spice and root beer on the palate. Great balance and integration. Round, silky finish. Fabulous!

Fantastic texture, silky smooth and weightless despite the load of flavor. dark cherries, strawberries, cinnamon, anise, a little smoked meat...fantastic. Long ripe finish too.

Beautiful aromatics of cherry, leather, molasses. As always the mid palate/texture was amazing. natural pinot tannins that became silk after 3-4 seconds. quite memorable

Cherry and strawberry flavors with some sweetness on the finish. Ripe, light to medium-bodied. The richness on the nose and palate thinned out somewhat after being opened a couple of hours.

Not as impressive as I was expecting. Had a beautiful nose of cherry and was an enjoyable wine. The finish however seemed a bit off. Not particular long and a bit of an unusual flavor. Not corked or TCA, but just not as rich and lush as we normally get.

Again, wow!

Wow - fantastic!! Let it breath for about 30-60 min - and enjoy. Medium body - cherry, floral, cola, slight spice and oak - smooth finish - well balanced - just delicious. Still a little tight and will continue to develop over a few more years but it's so good now -don't know if I can wait.....

Nose of red fruit, berries. Smooth, integrated and balanced palate with more berries, red fruit, a hint of Dr. Pepper. Medium long finish. These notes do little justice to this superb wine - loved it. Glad I have another bottle. I'll hold this one a while and see what develops.

Good bottle, not great. Aftertaste could be smoother. A think wine, with typical complexity characteristic of williams selyem, but have had better. Good fruit. Could have been smoother.

Open in 4-6 years. Red fruit, minerals, apple skin, hints of cola and other flavors, impeccably balanced but still wound up. Much more structure than 05 or 06 in the first year after release.
