What a wonderfully aged Zinfandel! The dark fruit is still present and accounted for, but it is walking side by side with garrigue, damp earth and Mediterranean spice notes. This wine was fantastic until the last drop. Good juice.

Prior bottle notes were from Jan 2018 and this was a different wine three years ago. I kept this bottle too long. As some recent reviews have noted, this appears faded and past its prime. It had an ok drinking window after about 60 min of air, but then seemed to fall apart, and wasn't good on day two. Drink up soon.

Deep, fresh red fruit flavors with great complexity and mouth feel. Soft, complex tannins with clean, long finish. I'd drink soon since I don't think it will improve, but should last another 3 years and still have bright fruit flavors

I found it a bit 'flabby', not living up to its high accolades, perhaps because I held it too long, opening it after seven years from release. Dark ruby colored, medium full bodied, rich dense, James Suckling called it a 'funky old vine character ... with mushroom and bark undertones', sweet jammy black berry, spice, sage, anise and what WS calls 'smokey caramel' on a peppery finish.
About the same as a bottle six weeks ago. Nice enough and well balanced. However, everything is somewhat muted, and tannins are conspicuously MIA. Definitely well past its peak. I plan to drink my last bottle pretty soon and match it with something fairly tame, like pulled pork with no sauce.

I suspect that I held this too long. Not jammy (good) and not noticeably hot. Decent nose. Very (too) smooth. Various red and black fruits, but minimal berry/bramble notes. Pleasant medium body and a good finish. Unfortunately, the absence of tannins made it less-than-suitable with food (BBQ in this instance). Other recent notes don't mention this, so maybe it was an off bottle. Hope so, since I have a couple more.

No formal note, this is a more muted version of a Biale than I have had previously, still good but not as good as other's I have tried, don't save it any longer if you have it, tasted to me like it was beginning its decline.

39th Annual Zinfandel Retrospective - the 2012s (R&D's): At first this is a bit herbal, maybe even "weedy." Red fruit, pepper and stemmy flavors. Opens up nicely though, showing pepper red fruit and raspberry qualities. Finishes with good length and plenty of briary red fruit.

Not sure it was a bad bottle or if this wine has a very steep aging curve. Initially opened, cork in good condition, and for the first taste I was greeted with unbalanced acidity. After decanting the wine was drinkable but with no fruit. On day 2 it had mellowed and the unbalanced acidity replaced with alcohol.

A classic example of California Zin. While not a memorable or overly complex wine, it is easy drinking and enjoyable with smooth tannin. A wine you can enjoy without having to think about it. If you are in the mood to dissect the layers of the onion, this isn't the wine for you.

No formal notes. Coravin'd w/ Liz after two Turley's (2013, 2014 Juvenile) and 2013 Ridge Three Valleys. Didn't quite have the same depth, but was still really solid. Tannins are smooth but still very firm so definitely no need to rush on this one.

Consistent with my note from 12/2014. Fairly balanced but not as much depth (in my opinion) as other Zins at this price. Not a re-buy for me but it's a nice bottle of wine.

This is a solid Zin. Nice blend of dark fruit, without tasting too jammy, with some spice and herbal undertones. Although it has a high alcohol content, it was at all overpowering and was really nicely balanced. I did decant for an hour before pouring. I liked this one.

This popular wine is over-ripe and very alcoholic at 15.8%. No trace of zinfandel flavors in the nose or mouth. It's very difficult to detect a varietal characteristic. The heavy alcohol quickly leaves the wine tasting candy sweet. People call it fruit bomb, but few flavors or anything come through this portish wine. [Tasted blind with two other Biale zinfandels.]

Medium body, slightly hollow mid-palate (only noticed this with food & fleshed out with airtime). Low (high ph) acidity and medium+ finish. Saturday Night Double Blind, $40+ (Bin 75): Deep plum to rim, good clarity; fresh berry, sweet, slight jamminess, hint of smoke; good tartness on the palate but lots of sweet fruit, not quite confected but very ripe, blueberry, latent or non existent tannin; seems like valley fruit, I need more structure, thought this was a benchmark Zin but this is much less exciting than Monte Rosso from Martini or Bedrock for similar price.

Solid zin. Unmistakably new world with a lot of intense dark fruits, but better balanced than usual, with acids and tannins in place to support the overall profile. Solid, well made wine.

Medium ruby red with slight dark hues; intense blackberry, cranberry jam, cherry, slight dried apricot thing, bramble, compost, slightly dried raisins; med.+ body but not gooey, good dose of oak, but well integrated, wet earth, interesting dusty mineral component; lively acidity, juicy with lower tannins. This is really good, especially after 30 minutes in the glass. This shouyld age well for 5 years+.

Light to medium crimson in color, great aromatics of dark fruit and pepper. More of the same on the palate with the red fruit brought out with the fat from a paired BLT. The acidity made it dance on the tongue with a lingering finish that kept me going back for more. Drinks well now, but I will hold my others for a couple-few years.

For me, this bottle is an improvement on the '11. My impressions were brightened perhaps by the fresh raspberry whiff that seemed to jump from the glass and gain intensity. Conversely, the pure fruit of the first taste seemed to gather savory field nuances with air along with some light woodsmoke.

Elegant and lively. Went very well with a turkey dinner. Enjoyed this much more than the 2011.

This needed some time to breath, after about 30 minutes it was fine. Overall, this wine needs a little more time to develop. It definitely smoothed out after 30 minutes of being open.

Potent. But after an hour or so of air, the alcohol is not so noticeable. Ends up showing nice juicy berries and quite smooth.

Standout zin. After 45 minutes, this opens into a delicious and viscous wine that everyone enjoyed. Dark fruit, menthol notes. Another great Black Chicken.

Rich, creamy and loads of vanilla. Much more expressive and robust than traditional Biale.

Great dark fruit nose. Deep, intense black fruits on the palate with great minerality, subtle spice, and light oak flavors. Very well balanced with a smooth, clean finish. More complexity than the 2011.

ZAP Trade Tasting. Nose of spice, touch of heat, dark fruit, and baked tart, more of the same on the palate, tasty but touch simple, medium body and medium finish.
